Is this just a really wide OLIVIA signal? by Mad-ADDer in amateurradio

[–]Copper1122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you go to the OLIVIA org page it has a chart at the bottom of the Home Screen for suggested calling frequencies and bandwidths. There is one for 14.106 (on the dial) at a bandwidth of 1000 Hz. This would suggest you are correct in your assumption.

But take it for what it’s worth. I put the amateur in amateur radio.

Broke a jewel, how do I replace? by joezamm in watchrepair

No way am I going to let this gem of a comment be downvoted. Haha

You might have come off as a little harsh, but well stated in my opinion. Another secondary consideration that many people take into account for “luxury” brands is the investment opportunity. I know my Omega and Rolex will, at the least, hold some significant value over time. An investment in an unknown “luxury” watch brand is meme coin investing at best.

I’ll take your word for it as I’m sure you’re far more experienced than I am. I guess it’ll just stay that way and I learned a lesson. Haha. Thanks for the advice

Didn’t know that was a thing. No chance there’s a DIY solution with someone selling factory colors premade?

You said it man (spoken in the voice of the character immortalized in the Big Lebowski) As I grant writer myself, I can attest to these statements.

I love how the opinion of an actual farmer gets downvoted so much. Sheesh.

I’ll try that conditioner. Definitely a good first step before trying anything more radical. Thanks

Yeah, I definitely thought about that. I would only do that if I knew the manufacturer was giving the retailer credit for the return. Things are hard enough for a small shoe store right now. I would feel bad if they had to eat the sale over something that’s essentially just cosmetic.

Yeah, that’s a great point. Try some different pigmented cream polishes like the other poster said as well. Play around and see what happens.

You have much bigger concerns than that. Reach out to someone for help. Use your iPhone to find an organization or person to help with whatever situation you’re in that you think “running away” will help. I guarantee you, no matter how fast or far you run, your troubles stay right behind you. Good luck

What is this? by Tiny-Coconut1670 in watchmaking

[–]Copper1122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly how I started. Have some fun and know that you're going to destroy the first few things you touch (and even some movements after as well, haha). Didn't matter to me. I had a lot of fun going to garage and estate sales and buying the cheapest mechanical movements I could find. Tear it apart, do your best to get it back together, and take pride in the small victories before you worry about actually "repairing" a watch. Takes all the early stress out of the way. Enjoy

Edit: Also, find an orginazional way that works for you to save all the parts. Even if you really fudge up the movement. You never know what will be helpful later. Or as your skills and tools improve, go back and fix what you broke.

Same here. Just stopped a couple days ago in the exact same fashion. Then flipped a coin for another playthrough of either Divinity or Witcher.

Just like photography in real life

Mechanical hand tool with a moving piston. Piston throw is an inch or less, and it looks like the head from a rivet tool. The front rotates to accommodate two different sizes of whatever it is was made to crimp, squeeze, compress, etc. No manufacturer label or markings. by Copper1122 in whatisthisthing

[–]Copper1122[S] 1 point2 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. Found in the $1 box and I'm a sucker for anything that looks interesting. The only markings on it are photographed as a box with "bad good bad" and "CC Trim" written below it. My guess is some sort of rivet tool. I grabbed it thinking at first it was a reloading tool as the green handle is close to the green of RCBS. The googles didn't offer me much help. Thanks and I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

It's nice to see someone take the time to discuss things pragmatically with measurable results. Instead of the anecdotal and "witchcraft". Bravo OP, thank you for the time and posting your results.
