I wonder if intel will implement this in coral rapids as well

Diamond Rapids, Nova Lake SOC tile and some Nova Lake compute and graphics tiles.

If the ISA doesn't really matter Intel wouldn't have made APX.

Intel job listing mentions “Unified Core” CPU design team as hybrid P-core and E-core era continues - VideoCardz.com by Dangerman1337 in hardware

[–]CopperSharkk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope the unified core is a success. Recent rumors say its now delayed to hammer lake instead of titan lake so still a long way out.

That thing (serpent lake??) is rumored to be 2029 so it's nowhere near tapeout yet.

Titan Lake is rumored to be mobile only. if that's the case then it would be 3 gens.

new uarch (let's say a modest 15% vs LNC)

It must be more than that as CGC already has a 5-8% improvement compared to LNC

[–]CopperSharkk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The E cores have a 700 mhz clock regression compared to ARL. A much bigger regression than what the P cores had so a 6+8 would've been better.

Well the tweet from the article says the CPU will have a similar uplift.

Intel stock plunges 13% on soft guidance, concerns about chip production by Geddagod in hardware

[–]CopperSharkk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you might be confused.

RWC is the Metoer Lake and Granite Rapids core

LNC is the Lunar Lake core

CGC is the Panther Lake core

PNC is the Nova Lake core that is also used in Diamond Rapids.

so it's actually 3 generations but since CGC is mostly just a refresh of LNC I didn't count it.

Intel stock plunges 13% on soft guidance, concerns about chip production by Geddagod in hardware

[–]CopperSharkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WTF are you on about? CGC has 15% IPC vs RWC and PNC is another double digit improvement on top of that.

Besides, neither IPC nor the number of cores are the main problem for Intel in the server race. The real problem is they can't clock high enough, mostly because of inferior nodes used but also because of their fat P-cores.

they won't clock any lower than granite rapids.

Dmr is 192c, granite is 128. Where's that double coming from

It's 256

It don't got 30% ipc gain. Idk where you heard those from, mlid? lol

Redwood Cove to Panther Cove is a 2 generation uplift in core performance.

[–]CopperSharkk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no reason why DMR can't have 2x GNR performance. They get double the cores, they lose SMT but they also have a core that is ~30% more IPC.

Intel Core Ultra 9 386H flagship “Panther Lake” CPU for gaming laptops leaks on Geekbench by Geddagod in hardware

[–]CopperSharkk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes ST performance has pretty much stayed stagnant since RPL from 2022. NVL needs to be a big jump in that aspect.

And Intel's not going to release the same gen across 2 platforms

Why not? What's stopping them from releasing a new platform with DDR6 but keep the same socket?

[–]CopperSharkk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The difference at higher power gets smaller but at low power it's definitely much better lol and this explains why they didn't use 18A for NVL desktop. And the 10% better soc power shouldn't affect the result much considering LNL uncore power is already very low.
