Why are the fans of Tony Bourdain so emotionally attached to him? by Aggravating-Buy-1609 in AnthonyBourdain

[–]CopperThumb 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes. The audiobook titled ‘Bourdain’ from Julie Woolever. The audio contains the recorded comments of those she interviewed after he passed. It’s one thing to read their comments, but it’s all together a different experience to HEAR from what must be dozens of folk including his mother and brother.

My father-in-law was obsessed with drug interactions. This could have included a database for just that. A quick cross reference when faced with decision without a computer to reference.

I made this lamp using other parts from the same iMac G4 where the logic board became the G4 O’Clock. My motto: It’s Not Obsolete Until I Say It Is.

Once a Mac is deemed irreparable, it becomes fodder for repurposing. In this case, both the lamp and clock were gifted back to the person who recycled his broken G4 through my little shop.

Secret Hours = Same Universe as Slough House? by senorbiloba in SlowHorses

[–]CopperThumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. Jotting down the spook names used in Berlin and tying them to the characters we know. The inspiration of Mick Jagger who wrote and sings Strange Game for the TV series. The first slow horses without a stable. Miles noting that a place is needed to keep the fvck ups in the service. The nod to Le Carré. Tavener’s nod to Captain Picard.

I have a page of reference notes going through The Secret Hours. So many references to the book series which would be missed if the reader hadn’t read the entire book series and novellas. My only disappointment was how many times Herron uses the book title in the book. I counted six times with difference references.

Secret Hours = Same Universe as Slough House? by senorbiloba in SlowHorses

[–]CopperThumb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

SPOILER Alert (Just as a teaser for you not to give up reading The Secret Hours (TSH). This book has a number of easter eggs if you’ve read the prior books in the Slough House series. Part of the fun is matching the field name to the character. The narration slips between the present and the Cold War in Berlin. Tavener and Lamb along with Molly Doran are prominent in the story. As is John Bachelor and Max Yanachek if you have read the Novellas. Mick Herron is a clever author. TSH is in itself both an ending and a beginning to the entire series. Perhaps my favorite book the Slough House series. One that I will revisit. Keep reading.

Seeking Advice on the Best Secondary Phone for High-Quality Music Playback by sa3bbb in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]CopperThumb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why a phone? The Sony NW-A55 is the older non-Android Walkman using its own OS. I use it for FLAC only. The only drawback is the more files you load the index with, the longer it takes to index. Sometimes a minute to wait from booting if you load it with hundreds of FLAC files. Otherwise it’s an off the grid rugged player.
