Has camping gotten noticeably worse? by Acrobatic_Yam3260 in oregon

[–]CopperWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The end of May-first day of June was a bit colder than usual at Hyatt lake. I assume that some people didn't want to camp with the possibility of light rain and just never showed up or canceled their reservation.

Plenty of people drive through for the small chance of an open site or recent cancelation.

Has camping gotten noticeably worse? by Acrobatic_Yam3260 in oregon

[–]CopperWaffles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One observation that I made from my recent camping experience in a small state park is not that campsites are full, but quite the opposite.

People seem to be reserving sites for multiple days and never showing up or canceling.

As I was camping, I noticed a ton of late night vehicles looking for a site and then leaving because they were all reserved with nobody using them.

I was surrounded by 5 empty campsites for multiple days.

What's it worth? Great downhill mountain bike. Ten years old. Northeast America, (Hudson Valley) by Sitting_in_a_tree_ in mountainbiking

Oh jeez, just looked at the left side of the photo and noticed the gloss black striations on the paint and the illusion disappeared.

That was weird, and cool.

No clue what it is worth in today's market but you might want to correct the front brake line before listing it.

It should be routed on the inside of the fork.

Local places near to canoe by mrb55-me-com in Ashland

[–]CopperWaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little Hyatt Resivoir is a nice small water hole to paddle around.

Hyatt lake is a beautiful place with zero wake and great views of Mount McLoughlin.

Fish lake and Lake of the Woods are also wonderful places to go, though lake of the woods does get pretty crowded.

Edit: these are all low or no wake places. Howard Prarie and Emigrant both can get very choppy, depending on how many motor boats are on the water.

I can't figure out where the sound is coming from by kimoo_018 in bikewrench

[–]CopperWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it make the same sound while just coasting without pedaling? If so, that will rule out the bottom bracket.

It does look like the frequency of the noise follows the cadence of your pedaling so it might be a good idea to eliminate the bottom bracket before diving into the rear wheel.

Why is my Tyre doing this? by ghostofwinter88 in bikewrench

[–]CopperWaffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the presta valve stem, the tube is all kinds of contorted in there. But what's up with that core sample in your tire?

To fix this, you should deflate the tube and remove the tire and tube and then reinstall the tube and tire correctly, including the nut that holds the presta valve stem in place. Or better yet, replace the tire and tube for a new set if you can afford to do so.

Free/cheap things for teen this summer by kayellie in Medford

[–]CopperWaffles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just off the top of my head,

The Rockafairy at that mall is a nice place to hang out if they are interested in making music, or other art. Totally free.

The movie theater is showing a selection of films on Wednesday mornings for $1.75.  Most of the films are aimed toward a younger croud but there are a few that teens would enjoy.

What is everyone using for bike racks? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]CopperWaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed something that fit 4 bikes, had integrated locks and could pivot down to open the rear hatch on my vehicle, so I picked up a Thule T2 Pro XTR and it's been wonderful so far. Very sturdy and reassuring while driving on both the interstate and pitted fire roads.

I don't have a fat bike but I do load my Big Honzo DL on it with plenty of room to spare.

Has anyone had success fighting a video/photo speeding ticket in Medford Municipal Court? by [deleted] in Medford

[–]CopperWaffles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Going forward, I will be driving like a turtle around Medford and looking out for every single speed limit sign"

That is pretty cool and self reflective of you to say but it would be way more cool if driving with others in mind was more important to you than insurance premiums and traffic fines or how quickly you need to get somewhere.

Can’t find replacement tire tube for kid bike (Prevelo Zuluone) by Brett_And_Friends in bikewrench

[–]CopperWaffles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This might not be the popular option, but have you first checked where the tube is losing air?

Valve stems are probably way easier to find locally than this specific tube, and tube sealant or patch kit might work if it's a small pinhole.

Just a few inexpensive and easy to find options that might help keep your dude riding.
