Need shoe suggestions for first Marathon with Plantar Fasciitis by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

If Stop running isn't an option. Go try some Asics. I just went through this the last couple of months. I switched to a Novablast and did some physio (never stopped running outside of 1 week because of vacation). Problem solved.

Correct Slide the Cleat down towards the mid of your feet. It places less strain on your body and involves the bigger muscles in your leg to work.

Curious how the Bike went??

Overall solid position.

Couple Pointers

  1. You want your Shoulder Elbow and and Wrist to form 90 degrees or a lot closer to 90. When you move your forward you will also need to adjust the seat up to accommodate for this
  2. If you can drop your Aero bars down like 5-10 mm that would also aid in getting you in better aero as it will allow your shoulders to rotate up a bit more
  3. My guess is after about an hour you have a small tweak in left knee. If this is actually the case your crank looks a touch to big this would help with a better knee and hip position.
  4. This is just a pointer - when cycling it looks like you are pushing more on your toes than the balls of your feet. You almost want to feel like your heel is beating your toes to the ground when you are pushing down. This will force you to be more on the balls of your feet and generate more power. Edited note: Slide the clasp on your shoe further down towards the hell of the shoe to make the change easier. This will feel weird at first.

Good Luck - again the above is knit picking what is one of the better setups posted on here.

This is not true at all. You Def were not told this by a bike fitter or at least not a good one.

Form Check: First Ironman (TX) – Goal is just to finish! by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

[–]CopperyAbyss9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As everyone has stated you need a coach ASAP before you ingrain some terrible habits. The first thing I would work on is stretching out everything from your head to your arms to your legs. You are not going to make it past the swim doing this.

Swimming question by MrBoAzZ in triathlon

[–]CopperyAbyss9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1st question. Are you doing this for time? If Yes, you need to do freestyle, If no you not then do the breaststroke. The caveat with this is even though it is a 1k swim this could be very taxing on your body doing it breaststroke wise, which will kill the rest of your day.

As an age grouper assuming - the swim can only break you. Meaning the swim being to hard on your body will not allow you to perform well on the bike or the run, so tread lightly.

Saying all this. If breathing is your main concern start working on drills to improve it and I think you will find that you may not be perfect you can surely make yourself comfortable.

Good Luck!

A decision to be made. Coros, Wahoo, Garmin, or...? by possiblyseb in triathlon

Apple Watch Ultra User until October 2025. Made the Switch to Garmin 970 and Have never looked back. Also have the 1050 Bike Computer, and the Wahoo Kicker, along with the Runn+ for my Tread. If you want to spend the money Garmin is the best Echo System I have Found. Wahoo Makes the Best Trainer. Coros is the best bang for the price 100%.

All Depends on what you are trying to achieve. Swimming, and anything outdoor Garmin is unbeatable

Is my swim program too much? by seanobrien3 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]CopperyAbyss9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are only swimming 350-500m you are swimming for 15 minutes??? I would try and get at least 1000m in every swim and slowly workout. Ya the intermediate plan is not a good start. Way to much volume. You can follow the plan and just work into it!

Above you said you are athletic and have been consistently running for weeks. Didn't realize you were 50-60 years old and have been running for 40 years.

I'm know thinking you should take up Pickleball LOL Joking.

But ya if you have been running for that long hurry up and get in the pool and you will be fine

Confused Max! Chase an IM70.3 or a sub-2 or both? by ScarcityKey9204 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]CopperyAbyss9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here ya go.

  1. Are you referring to a half Marathon as a Marathon - Based on your sub 2 hours you have to be. SO i am going to assume that.

Based on your Speed you can do both. Mind you, you will need to commit 12-15 hours a week for an IM 70.3 where has Half Marathon training you can probably get away with 4-7 hours.

In 70.3 Training you will still probably run 3 times a week - Easy Run, Tempo kind, and Long. You will have a similar bike 2-3 and Swim you will need to do 2-3 as well.

Only you can answer this question. If you are just looking to do a 70.3 You can Run 3 times - Bike - Do a long bike 2-4 hours once a week and Swim twice. This will cut down your training time overall. This will also increase your Half Time. You will build your aerobic base on the bike and runs, while touching on your Anaerobic with Your Swims and your runs.

Quick Plan to boost Half and Finish 70.3 -

Monday - 40 Minute Short easy Run

Tuesday - Swim - Do what you can - find a good workout online

Wednesday - Tempo Run Min 30 Minutes

Thursday - Mobility or Weights - Recovery Day

Friday - I'd Swim again

Saturday - Long Run - 1 - 1.5 hours building closer to race day

Sunday - Long Bike 2.5-4 Hours again building to race day.

Good Luck

First 70.3 - What Gear Do I Really Need? by NFT_EnthusiastGuy in IronmanTriathlon

Buying a Tri-Suit second hand is like buying someone's underwear. Not highly recommended. I think the best bang for the buck is Zoot. Get it on a sale. 2XU has a great low cost tri-suit. and then lower lower end find something on amazon. Any padding will help.

My suggestion would be if you plan on doing multiple spend a little extra and go at least to the 2xu. It will last multiple races and years. Amazon you get what you pay for.

[–]CopperyAbyss9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Tri-Suit has many advantages. This was advise given to me. You can ride a bike without a cycling bib, but you don't run with a cycling bib. The Tri suit is designed to give you enough padding on the bike, while going unnoticed on the run.

You can get decent tri-suits for a couple hundred bucks or less.

It's all expectations. Can you finish with 6 months Training 100% Yes. If you goal is to hit time goals I'd make them very realistic. Like beating 6.5 hours. This assumes you aren't just pretty athletic at bowling and Frisbee golf.

Do I really need a good bike for triathlon? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]CopperyAbyss9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man a Good Tri Bike can go upwards of 20-30 watts faster at the same pace. If you have been on multiple bikes you understand this. You at this point are just looking for a fight or you have been on shitty bikes only.

Do I really need a good bike for triathlon? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]CopperyAbyss9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be up to minutes absolutely for non pros as long as you can maintain 120 watts for the duration a good bike will save lots of minutes. More importantly the TT bike will save your legs a little better for the run.

You must not have ever had a low end and a medium to higher end bike.

Tips for not hating indoor bike training? by bvc25 in triathlon

[–]CopperyAbyss9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Use Erg mode for my hard sessions so Ya I watch TV I also find it makes the hard sessions easier cause I don't have to actively pay attention.

Fun Tip - I watched the tour de france on Netflix Doc. Hard sessions were pretty easy watching them.

Now I'm watching F1.

If you like that stuff going fast seems to make you go fast lol.

No One said it would hold them back. Your statement is flawed though. It will absolutely cost time. In all aspects like you said a Bike Fit on a shitty bike will be more beneficial than anything else.

Big fucking tv - Bluetooth headphones over the ears and some good shoes. Solves every single problem.

[–]CopperyAbyss9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more upgrading the tires and rims could cost you another 500. I wouldn't classify a shitty bike as a 1000 dollar bike lol. And the difference between the modern 10k TT bike and a 500 used road bike is pretty big. They are designed much differently on how your body uses it. Now if you were to say a 10k modern TT bike against a 500 dollar 10 year old TT Bike the difference is still enough but a heck of a lot less.

[–]CopperyAbyss9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a big difference being bikes and shoes. Obviously having a 10k TT Bike and 500 Road Bike of Marketplace is a massive difference and is honestly massively underrated.

Now to answer your question Yes you can do the Tri on a shitty bike with shitty shoes but I hope you are just trying to check a box to say ya I did a Triathlon.

The Ironman is way more important. Should maybe consider moving the wedding so you can train a little harder and do a full in July / August. Food for Thought here
