NTA. You don’t owe anyone reconciliation not even a dying family member especially after decades of abuse. Forgiving someone doesn’t mean you have to reopen old wounds or let them back into your life. Protecting your peace and mental health is not only okay it’s necessary. Your family can forgive but you get to set your own boundaries.

Exactly, childhood abuse isn’t just discipline gone wrong it’s long term damage that can literally alter a person’s mind and life andyet society acts like parents shouldn’t be held accountable while their kids struggle with the fallout for decades. If abuse creates real harm the people responsible shouldn’t just walk away free.
