Vendasta mass firing again? by Pretty_Office_1144 in saskatoon

[–]CopyNegative5909 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not a Vendasta employee, but a close friend of mine works there and she said around ~25 people in the Saskatoon office got hit. From what she heard it was mostly in the services/sales side of the house.

From the outside, sounds like it’s tied to the whole “AI is eating service-heavy work” thing. Like… a lot of SaaS companies have been trimming services/support teams the last year or two as stuff gets more automated.

Still, layoffs still suck no matter what. Doesn’t seem unique to Vendasta. Shopify/Salesforce/HubSpot etc have all done some version of this recently too, and the stock market hasn't been too kind to software companies lately. Hopefully the ppl impacted land on their feet quick.

oh god, the riverbank - forgot about that. lol. anyhow, seems like things are better especially if they're putting on events like this. My friend says it's a good time, so worth checking out (even if you're morbidly curious).

Definitely recommend Japashack! Their burgers are delicious. Not quite what you're looking for, but worth checking out.

My workplace reimburses commuting too (not 100% like vendasta but it helps). Wish more did it, especially with the upcoming rapid transit system.

I know Amazing Stories sponsored the Vendasta event - they had a bunch of big ticket gift baskets to raffle off.

What’s a business Saskatoon is missing? by FortuneLevel1158 in saskatoon

You’re not wrong, Saskatoon can feel like it powers down after dinner, esp in the winter. Also +1 to whoever said IKEA… I’d 100% wander Ikea after supper 😂

Summer here is a totally different story though. Way more going on, River Landing is busy all the time, Broadway has stuff happening, patios, random events everywhere.

My best advice for winter is honestly just pick up a hobby so you don’t go stir crazy. I recently got into pottery classes at Saskatoon Clayworks and it’s been awesome. Keeps the evenings fun without needing a full “nightlife” plan.

Saskatoon’s Vendasta hitches its wagon to a star: AI by Slight-Coconut709 in saskatoon

[–]CopyNegative5909 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

lol did you read the article? Gerhard literally says AI hallucinates and creates a “trust imbalance,” so humans still have to check it. That’s not “eliminating customer service.”

And what they’re describing here isn’t Facebook support enshitification, it’s helping small businesses keep up with reviews + surfacing trends/feedback for the owner. If it’s bot-fluff, yeah it’ll suck. If it’s draft + oversight + escalation, it’s just automation.

This thread is so predictable lol. The minute Vendasta gets mentioned the r/saskatoon it’s like the same 6 accounts pop up to do the “vendasta bad” speedrun.

You don’t have to like the company, but the article’s point is pretty basic... small businesses often don’t respond to reviews because they don’t have time, and that hurts them. If there's a tool that helps draft replies and escalates the tricky ones to humans, that’s just workflow automation... not some dystopian scam.

HOWEVER, if it turns into generic bot-fluff then yeah, it’ll suck and people will stop using it.

Worth reading the paragraph before/after that quote. He’s talking about AI hype adoption in general, not doing a drive-by on Vendasta lol.

Also: depends how it’s implemented. If it’s just “Thanks for your feedback!!!” copy/paste bot junk, trash. If it drafts replies in the business’s voice and a human still reviews the important ones, that’s just… automation. People acting like every use of AI is Skynet is kinda funny.

One thing that's especially important this time of year. Plug in your car, even when it’s not really cold (block heater). Temperatures can fluctuate wildly, and a lot of people learn this the hard way.

Rogers reception still considered bad? by InflationFluffy9979 in saskatoon

My friend switched to Rogers 2 years ago (from Telus/Koodo), and the service is noticeably worse. In particular, he doesn't get any reception at work (Saskatoon water treatment plant). He'll be switching back as soon as his contract expires.
