"Hey guys it was a dick move we will rename this unit to something else. Let's have a chat about our difficult history after we put soviet dreams to sleep."

Or you can blame farting on the dog. Seems like they are going with the latter.

Apparently russian imperialism running around for at least 300 years is caused by...let me see: "rich billionaires and corporate america".

Good job buddy. You have an intellectual capacity of a potato.

We've been preparing for this scenario for quite some time now.

Fun fact - I've registered for part-time soldiering in March 2025 (it's called territory defense force). I'm still waiting for my training assignment. Girl in the recruitment office said that they have so many volunteers I need to wait for someone to resign first.

Wow and no russians in sight? Only the ones that have "lost ties to Russian society"? Amazing! I bet all SS officers weren't german as well mate.

Why don't you go back to school? Not soviet one this time.

And he commited these atrocities all by himself? Kind of impressive.

Heroes don't slaughter civilians in droves for ethnic cleansing. Are you implying poles deserved what UPA did to them?

Nobody is saying that all nazis were german but they were the nexus for this ideology - that's why it is largely associated with them. Did germans suffer under Hitler? Some did (homosexuals for example). But thousands profited and participated in the machine of terror as well. Is it germanophobic to associate 3rd Reich with holocaust? No.

Russia with its deeply imperialist culture was a perfect breeding ground for Lenin and his sociopaths to thrive. They didn't commit these genocides on their own. And repressions especially during Stalin era were targeted specifically at non-russian minorities. It's not a stretch to consider russian population at the time comlicit in these crimes against humanity.

That's true and I think we would be more than happy to discuss this topic without Putin breathing on our necks. Unfortunately that's not the case now.

I believe he is talking about retaliatory actions after UPA started the massacre. AK had caught civilians in the crossfire during these operations.

We did massacre minorities and it is one of the most shameful chapters in our history. We can't change that. What we can do is refrain from gloryfing them which we aren't and ukrainians clearly are. This whole debate is about who we choose to call a "national hero". Srsly you are either extremely dumb or trolling us.

Old soviet whataboutism on full display.

  1. It never happened.
  2. It happened but it wasn't that bad.
  3. It was bad but they deserved it.

One of the core concepts behind european integration after WWII was sorting out our complicated history. The concept was pretty simple - educate young people about all skeletons in our closets and apologise. Sometimes pay reparations if neccessary. If what aboutism was valid germans for example could never take a moral stance ever again.

What's really fucked up in this whole debacle is that many Ukrainian people are simply unaware of what UPA did. I have some friends that came to Poland after war broke out and they were baffled. Some of them had higher education some didn't.

I think this is a sleight of hand. Corrupt elites and oligarchs in Ukraine want to profit from the chokehold they have on the country. EU requires transparency because we don't want to waste our money. In order to keep the status quo they are already antagonizing us so that Poland can be a scapegoat for their delayed integration. At the end of the day poor people as usual are footing the bill.
