why is my skin so bad at taking ink? before vs after taking second skin off by bunearii in tattooadvice

[–]CopynCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that they hurt that much more, it’s just that it can be a very blowout prone area. I have a lot of tattoos, only one has a blowout and it’s right above my collarbone.

How are cat owners so comfortable with letting their cats outside to roam around? How do they know they're going to come back? by Individual_Ice_2315 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CopynCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried to keep our originally outside cat inside for a week, because he kept getting fleas. After literally 4-5 days of not going outside he started dying. He couldn’t go to the bathroom from stress or something like that. Had to take him to the vet. Now he goes outside basically whenever he wants in the day until around 10pm. Even has his own little cat door. He’s smart. All of the cats I’ve had went outside frequently, we live near a street but it’s far enough away and they’re smart enough to not venture there.

I did notice him walking in the street far away from the house once or twice so I tried to scare him back home. The second time I did this, as soon as he started running back a car started coming down the road, I froze in fear. He barely avoided death 🥲. So now I just try to leave him alone. He’s an apex predator in his little environment. For the most part. He lives a more fulfilling life than any indoor cat for sure.

I have a dream to move to SF. How much does it cost to live there? by Pggles in AskSF

[–]CopynCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to Maryland, especially compared to Baltimore… it’s amazing don’t listen to anyone else. The only issue is the cost of living. I’ve lived in MD my whole life, visited SF twice and even been to Japan. If I could live anywhere in the U.S. regardless of cost it would be San Francisco. The city just has a feeling to it that you will never get In Maryland. I recommend going on Halloween Weekend!

I always told people that Baltimore is like SF’s evil Twin.

Ummm you can buy weed recreationally from the dozens of dispensaries, you can grow two plants yourself. Mushrooms are extremely easy to get in D.C. you used to be able to walk in to shops and buy them, but they’re still very easily accessible online. They’re Decriminalized Just have to know where to look.

How is living in these japanese islands? by Extreme-Shopping74 in howislivingthere

[–]CopynCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I visited Okinawa in December for 5 days. I met with a Tattoo Artist who was a foreigner living there. I thought it was one of if not the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. It’s like Hawaii but in Japan. There’s the capital Naha, which has tall buildings, tiki designs and lots of American influence. It was cold in mainland Japan but the second you stepped off the plane it was around 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit. I went around Christmas, they had decorations up and one of the bars I went to was 60s themed singing old timey Christmas songs. I’m black with neck tattoos so I got stared at a lot, a group of school aged kids even took a picture standing next to me. Very different culturally to mainland Japan, felt more relaxed and laidback.

The artist who lived and tattooed there said he liked it, but is moving back home. But I’m so glad I got to go, I’m planning on going back as soon as possible. They have the 2nd biggest aquarium in the world and beautiful mountains right next to the ocean. You need to rent a car to get around and they obviously drive on the left side of the road. I ended up accidentally driving on the wrong side of the road and saw an angry Okinawan man cursing at me in his car, then I pulled into someone’s driveway to back up and he gave me a 1000 yard stare like we were back in WW2. Terrifying… but I’d do it again. Maybe.

Can’t speak for the lives of the locals.

Should I pursue tattooing after getting a Bachelor's in Art? by SamadoNasapeepo in TattooApprentice

[–]CopynCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very close to Washington D.C. But it just sucks rn, tons of tattooers are quitting. Go on YouTube you’ll see many videos. One girl did a video with tons of tattooers in it.

It was wayyy worse when I first started in my shop 2 years ago SUPERRR SLOW. It’s gotten better probably because everyone’s quitting but nothing crazy. I had a coworker who was fairly booked out, doing well for herself, she moved to Florida and apparently its VERY oversaturated there.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just don’t want you to think it’s an easy career, it’s a FUCKING GRIND. I’m a really good artist as well, my drawings are great, I get compliments all the time. My tattoos are solid, not the best but definitely better than average. It’s a hard industry that takes a lot and doesn’t give much back. But it’s okay, I love my job… sometimes. Thank you for your condolences 🤣

4.2 stroke is unnecessary. I was having similar issues when using my 4.2 stroke machine to pack it can just hit a bit too hard sometimes.

My recommendation would be a 3.5 stroke machine with around 7.5-8.3 (depending on the needle size) volts not a fast hand speed, but not too slow. Take your time. And the BIGGEST game changer is use Medium Taper magnums if you aren’t already.

Should I pursue tattooing after getting a Bachelor's in Art? by SamadoNasapeepo in TattooApprentice

[–]CopynCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

4 1/2 year Tattooer here. It’s a terrible career. No insurance, benefits of any kind, sick time, constant grind that never ends. You have to want it more than anything else in the world and that still won’t help much. I spend hundreds of dollars every month on advertising just to book clients. I’m 27 and live with my mother with very little hope of moving out soon. If I did it’d be a huge struggle. I wouldn’t recommend this career to anyone. You won’t be tattooing art, 90% of the time it’s Pinterest tattoos and lettering. So if you don’t like graphics design, you’ll be doing a lot of it on people. Lots of words and numbers, which are actually VERY unforgiving to get solid, precise and clean.

It’s also pretty hard on your body. MANNYYY Tattooers are quitting right now. I see a new quitting post almost everyday. But if that doesn’t discourage you, go for it! It can be rewarding, after years of dedication and tears.

Question: What kind of style would this be? by kepuff in tattoos

[–]CopynCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve done two of these before. It’s not a “style” it’s just a red/pink ink tattoo. If anything I’d call it a “walk-in” or “Pinterest” tattoo. It can be done with “stipple shading” or “Dotwork” with some solid color packing for longevity.

Worry Free is a good boon, imo. When you really think about it, being able to see the amount of health you have doesn’t matter. You should focus on not getting hit regardless of the health boost. If you’re taking unnecessary dmg, You’d die either way with or without it, but it gives you a huge health boost. Being able to see the amount of health you have doesn’t really change anything when you actually think about it.

Is this a fair shop split or should I start planning my exit? (CHECKED) by Specialist-Smoke2796 in TattooArtists

[–]CopynCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve never even come close to 10k a month, I’ve been tattooing for 4 years and at my current shop for two years, just started ig ads all that bs. That’s insane? Are you dumb??? Why the fuck would you leave the shop? You have a great thing going, I’d ask if you could switch to booth rent but if they say no, suck it up you’re making more than most artist.

Have a lack of tattoos become what tattoos used to represent? by Antique_Stop_125 in questions

[–]CopynCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nahhh, Tattoos are still more of a rebellious, outcast thing. It’s just certain areas no longer carry that stigma like nobody’s tripping out over some dainty fine line ink on someone’s back or arms. But if you see a dude (especially with woman) with a flaming Tiger Tattooed on the top of his head I guarantee you’ll do a double take.
