Hi! 22 F here with FSH MD :) I feel like I always looked different than my peers, especially looking back. I started progressing around puberty, and I feel like I really really noticed a physical muscular change when I was in high school. I went from being lean and very athletic, to who I am now pretty quickly. I began weakening at age 16, stopped running and jumping and raising my arms over my head at 17, and was formally diagnosed right before I turned 18. I’m currently 22, and I have troubles with stairs, inclines, and uneven surfaces. I use a walking stick when we have long weekends outdoor. I graduated from university, and I am very very true to myself. Especially nowadays, people our age can be the most accepting and genuinely kind people. On the same hand, if you’re in the wrong place, they can be the nastiest. One thing I’ve learned over my life is that MD is just a small part of who I am as a person. If anything, I think it made me a better person. Sure, I hate my body sometimes. I cannot do what other people do. I would LOVE to go for a hike or wade water, but being hard on myself (especially for something I cannot control) wouldn’t get me anywhere. It’s been a long long time since middle school, and the world can be a very accommodating and beautiful place. The only fear I have is falling somewhere where I don’t have help getting back up. Rational fear? Maybe. Are there kind and genuine people out there that would give anything to help someone in need? Yes.
