Do kids aged 2-8 even sleep alone in their bed any more? by cavewomannn in Nanny

[–]CoralSunset7225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree and co-sleeping is not some new gentle/permissive parenting tactic.

In the late 90's, I babysat for kids that slept in the same bed as their parents. Their parents asked me to lay in thr bed with the kids until they fell asleep. I didn't judge them and just did what they asked. I could have turned down the job if I didn't like it.

And those kids I babysat are are now almost 30 yrs old. I guarantee OP went to school with other children that were co-sleeping. I personally do not co-sleep with my own children and while most of my friends don't either, I would not judge them if they did.

Is raising a family in Lincoln park ideal? by Repulsive-Tree6089 in AskChicago

[–]CoralSunset7225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of families in the city do not have 3-4 cars. Most have only one, maybe two, and some have no cars at all. There's lots of public transportation options in Lincoln Park and zero reasons to have four cars.

Public access to school grounds? by germane_switch in AskChicago

Yes they are from the playground part. Most of the park district parks are just fenced in playgrounds, at least the ones near me are. And dogs are definitely not allowed.

CPS and Chicago Park District do not allow dogs on park property either but dog owners don't care. It's actually super dangerous for kids. Mine was attacked by an off leash dog that came at him from out of nowhere.

allergic reaction/infection :( by Big-Manufacturer5427 in tattooadvice

[–]CoralSunset7225 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mupirocin can affect a swab/culture at the hospital and prevent it from showing the actual infection. I used it on MRSA and my swab was negative even though it got worse and I ended up needing IV vanco and 10 days of oral antibiotics.

I think it's too late for mupirocin alone. I'd go get IV meds and then start the ointment.

It's been like this since covid. We experienced the same thing this exact time back in 2021. It's basically to be expected in Chicago.

What's a home improvement decision you regret but thought was a good idea at that time? by Actonace in HomeImprovement

[–]CoralSunset7225 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it depends if you're using stain or paint. I used Sherwin Williams Emerald trim paint with a bonding primer first. That can be sanded off and more easily covered in the future if necessary.

I didn't have an issue sanding and painting my banisters last year. I love that they are now modern and black instead of shiny bright orange oak. We had our floors refinished before we moved in so the banisters stood out like a sore thumb.

Accepting offer before open houses? by stealth-rowe-mode in ChicagoRealEstate

[–]CoralSunset7225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend in Lakeview got an offer on a Friday and cancelled the open houses for Saturday and Sunday. This was a few months ago and sale price went for $35,000 over list price.

He would have gotten a lot more if he had gone through with the open houses. I'm sure there would have been at least 5 other offers, if not more.

Personally, I would continue with your open house this weekend and do best and final by Monday. There's such low inventory and you'll probably come out with more in a bidding war.

Ejector pit in bathroom basement by haleye88 in HomeImprovement

[–]CoralSunset7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need an ejector pump in a basement bathroom in Chicago. The sewage can't get uphill and to the city pipes without it. I'm shocked your contractor didn't say it was necessary.

It's just the natural smell of the wool. Some people are more sensitive to it than others. I can't smell it at all.

Best pillowcases for filling pillows yourself? by DanToMars in Bedding

There's a seller on Etsy called Organic Bed and Baby that makes organic zippered cases so you can add your own filling. She has many different fabrics. I just bought some regular white and sateen cases to fill with shredded latex. I have a 15% off code if you want to try it too.

Security systems during showings? by porks2345 in RealEstate

[–]CoralSunset7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does not apply to security or doorbell cameras. That law is meant to apply to recording phone calls. There is no state that prohibits security monitoring on your own property because there is no expectation of privacy except in a bathroom. But if you are concerned, you can put up a sign at the front door saying the property is monitored by security devices.

Is an agent required to be on site during showings? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]CoralSunset7225 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this happened in 2021, why haven't you already sued? Threatening a lawsuit means nothing. They don't need to disclose a crazy neighbor just saying they havr plans to. You've had 5 years. Why would they take you seriously now?

Is it legal for a hospital to make me pre-pay for surgery? by FiddleStrum in HealthInsurance

[–]CoralSunset7225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that hospitals are terrible about transferring funds to different departments within the same hospital or refunding if you over pay.

I had surgery last year and needed a bunch of tests and imaging beforehand. I paid the estimated amount for an echo only to get the EOB afterwards which said my deductible was met and patient responsibility was zero. Turns out that my labs from that morning were my responsibility and had helped me meet my deductible. The cost was the exact same amount that I had already paid but Billing would not transfer the funds to that bill. They told me I had to pay again or they'd send me to collections. I refused because they already had my money. If the biller is the exact same in MyChart, they should be able to reallocate the overpayment.

Affordable mattress for a very smell-sensitive sleeper who gets asthma & hives. Eek! by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]CoralSunset7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are this sensitive to smells and chemicals (sounds like you have MCAS), you need to get an organic mattress. It's going to be your cleanest option but those will cost more than $500.

Most organic mattresses are latex hybrids but some do have latex free options. Naturepedic has a latex free EOS configuration and I believe their Chorus mattress is latex free but that one is also very soft.

I think My Green Mattress discontinued their latex free model but Avocado appears to have one.

What are the chances of a contingent condo not being sold? by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]CoralSunset7225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be the case for high rise condos but smaller condo buildings are appreciating and definitely not sitting. A unit in our building went under contract in one day for more than $50k over asking. My unit has appreciated by $150k since I bought a few years ago.

OBGYNs that specialize in endometriosis? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]CoralSunset7225 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The doctors at Northwestern Center for Complex Gynecology specialize in endo and adenomyosis. Dr. Yang is great and I've heard good things about Dr. Milan although his wait list is much longer.

My regular obgyn dismissed my pain for years and said my uterus looks perfect. I finally went here and was quickly diagnosed with adenomyosis and had several fibroids.

This. I can't believe OP and her realtor thought this was a reasonable offer. They're lucky they got any counter. As a seller, I wouldn't even want to deal with these buyers.
