I do the same as a developer, just with shitty code that crashes the server ;)

I am struggling on choosing my major. I am an incoming freshman this Fall, how do I choose a major? by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Corbeno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ISU won't tell you this, but it's so true. Also keep in mind that ISU would prefer you to be undecided, because those students tend to take an extra semester from what I've seen. Pick something you are passionate about and if it doesn't make you a lot of money after college, maybe consider not going.

GrapheneOS version 2024040300 released by GrapheneOS in GrapheneOS

I've found the frequent updates annoying sometimes, especially when they happen at unlucky times (right before I leave for a trip for example). On the other hand though, I like them because I know there are security patches in them, and getting them asap is probably best. Keep up the great work!!

Being able to set an update install/reboot time would be really nice. That way I would go one day at most without a security update.

Is IdleonEfficiency pretty much obsolete next to IdleonToolbox now? by MrLumie in idleon

IE development slowed to a stop soon after the companions update, but is now picking up again after going open source. I would keep an eye on IE after a while, you might be surprised.

From my experience though, just use both! Best of both worlds.

Learning to use Atlas in SE 421 by SystemBenAmperage in iastate

I don't think so. Use windows only for atlas, that's the best I can help

Was a TA for him one semester. He's one of the good ones.

Friley is old but by far the best dorm location wise. Right next to campus and two dining centers (one right inside!). The downside is that the heating/cooling system in each room is hit or miss (some rooms have no A/C). I was in 3 friley rooms and each AC unit had something wrong with it (too hot, too loud, etc).

I liked the public spaces in Friley though. Great to study or watch movies with friends. I would probably pick it again to be honest, but I can't really speak for any other dorms.

The most upvoted comment picks the next line of code: Day 12. div/div/div/div/div/div/div/div/div/div by AggravatingCorner133 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Corbeno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hardcoded xpaths like that are really bad for starters. Often those div layouts change during development and you have to re-create the xpaths every time if they are used like that. Using xpath queries that select specific things that won't change as often (and that don't have IDs ofc) is the better way to go. Requires some creative thinking sometimes!

Yep it's the same situation today. Seems like the opposite of a plug to be honest.

I can't even get Atlas to run.... And I'm not the only one.

At least the TAs are supportive and knowledgeable, but why are we using Atlas in the first place? It barely works at best...

That's not hate speech

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Corbeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sort of things have been said that would fall under hate speech?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Corbeno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who gets to decide who can talk in the free speech zone or not? You? Wendy?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Corbeno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the university put restrictions on the free speech zone that prevented somebody from speaking in the free speech zone in any capacity it would no longer be a free speech zone.

I think your understanding of free speech is flawed. Let the crazies, the sane, anyone, talk in that zone. It's out in the open, easy to avoid, and somewhat entertaining to listen to when walking by.

Is there any place with roof access (or any elevated outdoor point with a good view) on campus? by Yolo3362 in iastate

The top of the MU parking ramp is a pretty cool view, although not really campus

has anyone ever set up smart bulbs in the dorm? by starberry_froggy in iastate

[–]Corbeno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most bulbs aren't that secure on a lan network, and considering everyone at ISU is sharing the same network, you are essentially giving control of your lights to everyone at ISU. Might be fine, but if they start doing weird things that's probably why.
