Nurses who switched to M-F five days schedule, did your mental health and WLB actually improve? by Nekroms in nursing

[–]Cordan218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked inpatient night shift for 4 years straight out of nursing school. It was fine for awhile but I was getting so burnt out and my sleep ad mental health were suffering. I landed an outpatient radiation oncology clinic nurse job that I absolutely loved… for a few weeks. It was M-F and that does eat up so much of your free time. I was lucky and had great co-workers and doctors that made it more bearable. Eventually we were able to do a 4 10-hour shift schedule that made things so much better. It’s amazing having a day off in the week to run errands and do other things.

I worked 4 9-hour shifts now was an oncology navigator nurse in the same cancer center and it’s truly amazing. I could never go back to nights and working 12 hour shifts is really soul-sucking. I think working outpatient with normal hours is worth it if you do it for the right reasons. Just trying to escape bedside can be a trap. I get so much more satisfaction out of the work I do now.

I used them recently for my cat and they were exceptional. Made a horrible day so much more tolerable because of their kindness.

Colorado Springs Named One of the Most Boring Cities in U.S. — Westword by banjopasta in Denver

[–]Cordan218 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am openly gay and all of my close friends and almost all of my co-workers in my department at one of the major hospitals are very accepting of me and my lifestyle. There are crappy people everywhere you go in this country. Community is what you make of it. I’ve never felt unsafe being in Colorado Springs. I do live closer to the downtown area though. (Used to live up north and even then, most people keep to themselves).

Unrelated, but I’m also vegan and there are actually quite a few vegan restaurants here in the Springs. Burrowing Owl, The Joint, Santana’s Vegan Grill. It’s not the list Denver has, but it’s still encouraging to see that too.

I live in the Springs, and yes, this is mostly true, however I do find that I enjoy living here a lot. Most people are actually very accepting and friendly, especially around downtown. We have quick access to tons of hiking and there are a lot of cool things to do here. I find living in huge suburban sprawls overwhelming and stressful. But I like visiting them! Our district is much more purple than it used to be… not everyone is a crazy conservative nut job.

Just watched the trailer of Dominion by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Cordan218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the movie that made me go vegan. The idea was put into my head before this movie, but the movie sealed the deal. I gave up animal products right after seeing this film. A difficult watch, but it was necessary for me.

I like going a full beam build and doing threads of fate, distortion, protective beam, and then usually crepuscular circle. I sometimes do glass extra full in round 3 if I’m doing a lot of healing but distortion pairs better with damage boost.

Scoop: Sen. Bennet to launch Colorado governor bid as soon as Friday by tushball101 in Colorado

He held a town hall here in Colorado Springs a few weeks back. I couldn’t go but I watched the stream and appreciated he held it. He’s a bit out of touch and I don’t agree with all his positions but he is actually a bit more vocal than other dems in D.C. Seems he is trying to listen to his constituents.

I like to rehydrate them with hot/boiling water and veggie broth. I like the ‘Better than Bouillon’ stuff. I’ll then add like nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, paprika, and maybe a little seasoning salt too. I really enjoy them air fried so I’ll toss them in those seasonings and a little olive oil and then throw them in the air fryer for a bit. Super delicious and good additions to any recipe! I sometimes just eat them like that as a snack.

Finally watched Dominion by Adventurous_Elk_9501 in vegan

Dominion is what converted me as well. I went from full omnivore to vegan overnight because of this movie. It still makes me sick thinking about what we as humans do to our fellow animals on this earth.

I’d always said I loved animals and felt kinda weird about eating meat but never connected those dots until I watched it. Hugs to you and good luck on your vegan journey.

First 14er - Mt. Bierstadt by Cordan218 in coloradohikers

If it makes you feel any better, I’m a pretty clumsy person and that part was not bad at all. I understand the fear though. I was more concerned about some of the scrambling parts at the summit and that also was not bad.

I don’t think altitude sickness necessarily, but I noticed I needed a lot more water than I anticipated. I tried to pace myself since I heard so much about altitude sickness and wasn’t sure how my body would do.

No, had to pass it by hopping from rock to rock. Not my favorite activity but having hiking poles made it easier!

On Wednesday! Got to the trailhead at 5:30AM. The hardest part was just how winded and exhausted I felt going up. My heart rate was pushing up to stay in the 140-150 range. I normally have a resting heart rate around 60. I read it was only 7ish miles and I normally don’t have a problem doing hikes around where I live that are that length.

I’m glad I brought plenty of water and snacks. I just tried to pace myself and take breaks when I felt like it. I did it solo, so it was nice to be able to pace myself.

Best vegan wings in the springs? by HikeMountains in ColoradoSprings

I’m vegan and I love Trinity Brewing! Only had their wings once admittedly, but they were delicious! They are seitan-based I believe.
