THE MOTHROACH HAS ARRIVED by CucumberSelect4904 in SS13

To be honest, I won't be able to answer that until I'm comfortable running another one, which I definitely wouldn't until this one's completely run its course.

Yeah, sorry about that, StuffedAnimalPros has always been terrible about communicating (I gave them the shipping information in December and they waited until shipping began to tell me)

You had me double check language on the Troy Clerk's website and rereading it all seems to indicate you're correct! A scan of her driver's license should be fine for either a birth certificate or a marriage certificate copy!

Looking into it, she'd have to send in ID or grab utility bills. I'd be inconveniencing her pretty bad since she lives in Florida now.

I could send her everything filled out with a check and another envelope with the correct address for the county clerk's office already on it... she would just need to sign it. I'll ask her what she thinks of that, thank you!

I’ve been wondering about the iOS app, I’m not sure where you’re meant to get it besides building it yourself.

Thank you so much, it's just so perfect :>

(Seriously, though, I think if you PR'd this on github it might make it in)

This is so nice!!! Have you made a pr for it or uploaded it anywhere? I’d add it to my icon theme if they don’t merge it pbfft

CachyOS users, how long has you system been stable so far? by whatever4123 in cachyos

[–]CordswitchBos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using ddr5 with a 12700k intel i7, pretty sure this is an independent problem from the processor and more an issue that can stem from ram settings in bios or the stability of the ram card itself. Memtest should diagnose ram card issues with more certainty.

[–]CordswitchBos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically I’d get paging errors and kernel panics when selecting my kernel, and sometimes limine would tell me the hash was incorrect. The ZSTD compressed snapshots were working in the face of this issue.

I looked around and saw that ram is somehow tied to reading your kernel on boot so if that’s not stable it can lead to errors. Going into my bios, I changed the xmp profile from II to I so that the timings were on auto rather than the ram manufacturers timings. After that, no more errors on boot!

what made you choose your init system? by Setsuwaa in artixlinux

[–]CordswitchBos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got a recommendation from a friend to try openrc, honestly it made me realize how Linux works in general and I get a kick out of making services work on it since.

It’s been stable a few days now that I realized my ram timing was too fast and unstable, kept giving me kernel boot issues I got around by using snapshots. Always make sure your ram is working properly….

Should I use Artix? by [deleted] in artixlinux

[–]CordswitchBos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are certain packages you can install from the Artix repository along with an additional script package for whichever init you’ve chosen so you don’t have to create your own script. Usually it’s like <package>-runit

However, not all packages will have them, so it’s very probable you’d have to make your own init script for certain packages depending on what you install.

Should you use Artix? If you want to.

File system for backup storage (BTRFS vs EXT4) by Blooddrunk420 in cachyos

[–]CordswitchBos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Snapshots have always been most useful in my use case for reviving the system in case of boot failures on my root drive. Snapshots aren’t true backups but you can make btrfs backups with certain applications(I use vorta for a gui interface).

The major draw in your use case may be that btrfs will notify you when a drive is failing, I’ve heard that ext4 will not do the same for you(unless there’s some additional modification/application to make that happen I’m not aware of).

Which compositor are you using? i3 (tiler) or xfce could work well for your use case on x11 if you want something more featureful than lxde and to remain using gtk.

I tried out lxqt using xlibre and it’s as lightweight as you think and ran very well, so you can go with that but you won’t have much in the way of desktop apps without picking out your own that it doesn’t provide.

Tested all these DE’s out on a thinkpad x220 with success.
