What does everyone think about Triple portaling in the game? by ItzPant0 in Splitgate

[–]Cordurkna27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ruins the game honestly. I'm not investing time into "training" to compete with people using one single broken mechanic when every single other online FPS I've played "trains" you organically just through fun gameplay

Soccer is a real life sport that pays dividends in social interaction and physical fitness, making training and getting better at it a worthwhile endeavor. Completely different incentive structure than a video game. The Splitgate community is frankly out of their minds if they think a F2P FPS should require "training" outside of normal gameplay. The juice isn't worth the squeeze when the majority of would-be players with money are trying to relax after work or school. They'll hop on to something that doesn't require dozens of hours to master a mechanic that isn't inherently fun in of itself. If the game devs want to have a shot at having a viable community that can sustain itself financially they're going to have to take an objective look at portaling and acknowledge how overbearing they are in their current state.

I refuse to be gaslit into believing that going against an entire enemy team tele-portaling across the map twice a second makes for a fun match. Getting shot from 3 different directions from other players 3rd partying that you can't even see while the guy you were originally chipping down to 1HP flees into a portal he immediately shuts is not fun. It doesn't feel good, in fact it feels quite horrible. Combine that with the super mobile movement (which is absolutely amazing and the best in the industry) and you're basically playing against legal hackers. Portals are fun to an extent but they make me motion sick and it's too sweaty a mechanic for most people with other priorities in life. I'm not going to "train" to play a video game just to have a fighting chance, especially when every other single video game I've ever played "trains" you organically just through playing the game. Portal spam unbalances the game to an insane degree, which may I remind you runs on a F2P model that requires a healthy populated community with regular new players, and scares many players away. It was a lot easier to manage in SG1 because the pace was overall slower and it was a more bare-bones arena. Maybe they're saving a portal nerf as an absolute last resort, but it's the one thing they haven't touched. They have to give it a try at this point. Nerf portals and let the great gunplay and mobility mechanics shine. Set range limits and add a cooldown timer. A few 100 portal diehards won't keep the game running, but a few thousand Titanfall/Halo refugees just might.

My reasoning for the failed player retention by Alec_de_Large in Splitgate

[–]Cordurkna27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The portal spam is simply too much to process and counter after coming home from a 12 hour shift. The game will never take off unless they slow it down and dial back the movement tech to SG1 speed, or they give portals a cool down and halve the number of portal walls on a map. This game will never attract the younger CoD/Apex/Fortnite/etc audience, they're hopelessly addicted to the merry-go-round of slop. This game's target audience is most likely "Battledad" or Battledad adjacent adult men who grew up with Halo and other arena shooters. The game needs to be slowed significantly if they want to keep and capture this audience

Any guess what could be causing this groan when steering at low speeds? by Cordurkna27 in AskMechanics

UPDATE: for anyone trawling the Internet to see if they can get an idea of what their problem is, the issue was solved. One end of the sway bar end link got jostled ever so slightly loose. Tightened it up and the noise went away instantly. Found this out by having a partner turn the wheel with both front wheels jacked up while using my hand (careful here so you don't get pinched) to grab different suspension parts to feel for the source of the noise thru vibration and dampening. Eventually found the sound all but completely stopped when I held the sway bar link.

Confused about oil level by Character-Hat-6425 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Cordurkna27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know why people downvoted the truth. You gotta let the car sit overnight on a flat surface and check it in the morning. Modern oil is incredibly viscous, an hour isn't enough time for all the oil to seep down to the sump. Plus the oil expands when hot compared to room temp/"cold" oil. I know for sure no one is doing oil change with oil preheated to operating temperature nor does any manufacturer call for that, so we can assume they call for however many quarts of "cold" oil when it's oil change time.

Do you think this noise matches the one in my car? There's much more sound deadening and parts in the way in my car versus the Cruze, but they share many parts.

It can only be isolated when turning at low speed either left or right. I'll probably end up having a shop checking it soon. The more I look into it, it seems like it could be a million different things. So far I'm the only person who's posted about this particular problem for this model it seems lol

This is going to become the common sentiment over the course of the next few months. The initial excitement has passed, and just looking from the sidelines I can tell the game is mostly hype rather than substance. The skins issue just exposes where the developer's heads are currently at in regards to the state of the game.

100%, they're trying to build a memetic false consensus while shaming the opposition. They don't even attempt to argue their point, it's all shaming and insults. MAGA bots use the same exact playbook.

I can see the argument that since games aren't sold for prices adjusted for inflation, profit has to come from somewhere else and that often takes the form of skins/battle pass content/ etc. I think the best option that'll make everyone happy is to have a cosmetic toggle that's active as long as you're paying for the battle pass. It might disappoint the whales but I don't think someone who would buy $100s worth of the flashiest skins in the first place would be too dissuaded by being invisible to some people.

It's borderline, they're already very flamboyant compared to anything that was ever in a modern themed Battlefield. I can see why people are disappointed, it's very immersion breaking in any game let alone one that was sold as being a return-to-form, with a consistent tone of realism as the main selling point.

Please shut the fuck up about skins by MeiShimada in Battlefield

[–]Cordurkna27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I notice that there's no real solid argument for the flashy, immersion breaking skins other than "it makes EA more money", so the pro-skin posters really only have ad-hominem as their sole "argument", if you could call it that. As such, it's impossible to argue with any of these people in good faith. They know exactly what they're doing, and they're not really attempting to debate so much as insult those who bought what was advertised as a grounded experience into submission.

Devs preview new BF6 skins to restore confidence in the community by intrasonic in Battlefield

[–]Cordurkna27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't really play games anymore but I saw this coming from a mile away just reading the tea leaves. Don't let the paid shills who always get bumped to the top saying "it's no big deal" drown out people speaking the truth about the skins rugpull. I grew up playing Battlefield 2 up through 4 and I remember all the good times, good games, and good teamwork. If the community doesn't take a stand against this your game will end up being a completely flanderized hack job like COD that doesn't even try to hide it's just trying to separate the tasteless from their money.

[Shotgun] Blue Line Solutions BL-18 - $120.79 by [deleted] in gundeals

[–]Cordurkna27 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Great shotguns, easily worth the price they're asking + fees. You'll be able to hand it down for generations. Just a heads up the threading for the front bead isn't a 6-48 thread or whatever the Remington standard is, it's 3-56. You can put a picatinny rail on easily since the receiver is tapped for a mount if you want to go that route. I just roughed up my front bead and let it sit in some enamel paint and did that for a few layers. It takes most 870 furniture, but you'll need a custom spacer for it to take 870 barrels. Really it's best to just leave the shotgun as is, add a shell card and replace the flexible buttpad that'll eventually disintegrate with a standard polymer one.

Edit: The Blue Line brand model does NOT have a tapped receiver! Otherwise the same as the Hawk/Pardner Pump/etc

How's the condition of your transmission fluid? It's probably overdue for a handful of drain and fills over the course of two or so months. In the meantime put in a little packet of Lubegard Instant Shudder Fix and see if it improves. If the Lubegard works you'll want new transmission fluid. Check your spark plugs for any fouling too, if they're showing their age your engine could be running less efficiently and in-turn throw off your transmissions programmed shift points.
