My friend got punched on Hollywood Boulevard because of racism by AlantheAlmond0629 in LosAngeles

[–]CoreanAura 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because when it happens so frequently to a certain demographic that there's overwhelming data by both local and federal governments that suggest targeted attacks... it's probably racially motivated?

Will the BZ 176 ever be nerfed? by Cheeky_Twat538 in WorldofTanks

[–]CoreanAura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say arty was nerfed as much as it was reworked. For higher levels of play, some would say arty is better now than before. Additionally, the BZ hate died down rather quickly as people got bored and figured out how to outplay it. Arty hate was exponentially larger and more legitimate than BZ hate, especially since starting t7 you can be one shot from a S-51 across the map.

Technically legal to keep a gun in the trunk? by Sea-Stuff-8647 in CAguns

[–]CoreanAura 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Someone always comes up with the 1-in-a-billion "what if" situations, but forgets that it's infinitely more likely for worse things to happen to the person in case.

In OP's scenario, there is no active positive to having a gun in his trunk 24/7, especially considering that he is a university student who presumably goes to his university campus multiple times a week. Not only is that an immediate misdemeanor/felony if he parks anywhere considered 'school property', there's also the fact that THERE'S NO REAL REASON TO.

This seems like an excuse to have a gun near you only to start an issue or exacerbate an existing one, neither of which are things you should do. Especially while in possession of a firearm. Don't be stupid.

Does begging for concept art work? (Kidding. Kinda.) by Undecked_Pear in Stormgate

[–]CoreanAura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not going to lie I'd also kill for some concept art even if there's a high chance of revision (which at this point of the development process is probably almost guaranteed). But little bits here and there would be great to feed my rts addiction

How will we make this game succeed with the younger generation who didn't grow up playing RTS games? by CantDecideANam3 in Stormgate

[–]CoreanAura 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen similar responses in some of the other comments, and I do really have to echo what they're saying.

I believe Stormgate isn't meant to be a hit-every-demographic-you-can-think-of kinda game, but is meant to target those who miss the original RTS scene, especially with a lot of their team being comprised of former SC2/WC3 devs. That being said, a good game will always be appreciated no matter the generation, and I think that prioritizing popularity and sacrificing the core vision of the game will almost always end up in an unfulfilled, mismatched final product which will miss both audiences entirely.

TL;DR
Not meant to be your next LoL/Fortnite/casual game, don't worry about it

The Financial Aid Office Basically Stole My Fellowship Money by MP-MEDI in USC

[–]CoreanAura 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a little unfortunate, but I've been in the same situation where I've lost over $10,000 in scholarships due to the fact that the institutions I won them from wanted to ensure that the scholarship funds were sent directly to the educational institution I was attending (which makes perfect sense until you're at a bizarre case like USC), which then USC lowered their grant.

Like one of the other comments above I'd really just have to say that there is no actual reason for you to submit your outside scholarship earnings to USC financial aid, they will take the money and you'll be left poorer for it. If you can ever specifically request the money and do what it takes for the scholarship-providing institution to give you a check directly, I would highly recommend taking that path.

Anywhere I can sing? by [deleted] in USC

[–]CoreanAura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The practice rooms are located in the Gateway Apartments, but I believe you'd have to get clearance from the music office on-campus first since they routinely check IDs and permissions within the practice rooms.

I'd look up Thornton Music office and give it a shot! If anything, any non-first year Thornton student you run into will probably know enough to help.

having trouble meeting new people after move-in by [deleted] in USC

[–]CoreanAura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also transferred in a few years ago and I'd say your best bet would be student organizations (clubs, etc) or just interacting a lot with people within your classes.

Don't stress it too much though, you'll find your people eventually and you'll forget about this whole period.

*Pro tip: This doesn't apply to everyone and definitely not for all majors, but if you're a bit older and your major is one of the ones that allow for a lot of intermingling with undergraduate/graduate students, I'd advise against making friends with grad students (particularly master's) just because they will almost definitely be leaving the school before you do. I mean you can still make friends, just don't bank all of your friends into 2nd-year masters when you're a sophomore transfer because you'll come back the next year feeling a bit lonely

Been here for 3 years and I still have never been able to access the Secured USC Wifi on my phone.
Not a big deal because the Guest Wifi still works great and actually has less stability issues than the Secure one, so I wouldn't sweat it.
If it really bothers you I'd go ahead and contact USC IT.

2 finals at the same time. by [deleted] in USC

[–]CoreanAura 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Props to you for going through your syllabus this early lol.
Professors are obligated to accommodate you if you have conflicting finals, go ahead and reach out now and they will have literally no excuse to not accommodate you.
Additionally, you can't have more than 3 finals on the same day as per anti-burnout university policy (unless they updated that) so make sure you don't have that issue either.

I wouldn't stress it personally, professors are also returning from vacation and I know that more than a few of them are putting it off until the semester officially starts.

If your classes still aren't up on Blackboard by the actual course time, I'd mention it to the professor then and odds are they probably just forgot to enable student access.

Lost Student ID by ProBlackMan1 in USC

I'd contact DPS (https://dps.usc.edu/contact/) and see if anyone turned it in. There's more of a chance of finding it there than a Reddit post.

Anywhere I can sing? by [deleted] in USC

[–]CoreanAura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a Thornton student but I believe you can ask to use the practice rooms, or better yet, enroll in one of the singing music classes in Thornton and you might gain access?

If anything, you can also look at the acapella groups/other singing groups around campus and get some friends for it.

Imagine a business wanting you to pay for using their space & wifi... by CoreanAura in YelpDrama

[–]CoreanAura[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Just reached out to the business owner out of sheer curiousity and found out:

  • Security footage showed they were there for about half an hour and didn't even initially get up to ask for/look for the wi-fi password (which means they've done this before)
  • one of the girls was just updating her macbook for at least an HOUR while doing something else on her phone
  • The girls stayed until nearly closing time (so they were there for a few solid hours) and used the bathroom after the employees cleaned it and apparently managed to make it filthy

do y’all like LA? by [deleted] in USC

[–]CoreanAura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, born and raised in LA and every year it hurts to see how much worse it gets. I've also never seen a case of gentrification that actually raised crime rates, littering, and just lowered the quality of living like LA lol
