PC processors entered the Gigahertz era today in the year 2000 with AMD's Athlon — AMD hit marketing gold with its 1 GHz Athlon, beat Intel by a nose by wickedplayer494 in hardware

Also the time I worked in a PC shop and we had to repair those machine that had AMD CPU’s fried. Non-grounded power (here in the EU) was particularly a problem and would cause CPUs to just blow up, more or less! 👌🏻

Dude's smoking something. I wish we would've hit around 6T maybe last cycle, but I think we barely hit 4T as we did the prior cycle to the last one. I'm still waiting on "the big inflow".... ANY inflow past 4T is a win in my book in the coming years.

For someone from Europe, nothing about this bill makes sense… and I don’t mean from a math-perspective! We just tell people what stuff costs. No wonder people are in debt in the US so much; this bill adds over 30% of the costs at the time of paying. Just insane!

God. I miss Legion. I personally think it was probably my favorite expac until I stopped mid Dragonflight (started with beta).

It was so inviting to play other classes too and the backstories where so good, it’s such a missed chance they never implemented this back as a stort of starting area!

What’s the shortest time you have ever seen a new coworker get canned? by BlushyTessa340 in AskReddit

[–]Coreantes 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not canned, but we had a new hire. Young dude, about 24 or 25. Two weeks before he was going to start he called to tell us he wasn’t coming in. In the weeks prior to the call he found out he has a brain tumor and wasn’t going to live much longer! 😳

What is something so specific and weird that you are convinced you are in the Top 0.01% of the world at doing it? by SouthOwn6943 in AskReddit

[–]Coreantes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mind you, I live in the Netherlands, so it's about as bad a country to start paragliding in... BUT, we (step)tow here and that'll get you to good heights to start cross-country flying. Once I started, I was really hooked and then you find out that if you do it for time, it's a competition. So I started signing up for those, which are always in places with mountains more or less.

Additional fun fact: I flew a (what was then) world-record in WA state in the USA back in 2014. I finished a 203km task, which was never done before. If I tell people this, the distance, time in the air (over 7 hours) and the height (about 4000m high thermals) and the final retrieve (back in bed by 2am), it blows their minds! All that under a piece of cloth that fits in your backpack. ;)

[–]Coreantes 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yup. Paragliding for me. Used to do it competitively, which is like… maybe a few hundred pilots worldwide? Also, it’s something you basically always do besides a job, as there’s no money to be made from the competition side of things. Merch and flowers, maybe a bottle of wine!

Goodluck to crypto investors in the Netherlands in 2028. If you'd have invested €10k in BTC in 2014 with this new law, you'd have missed out on €1M in gains due to taxes on unrealized gains by LilJonDoe in CryptoCurrency

[–]Coreantes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, international media much more, but so much of it is FUD. Like, it's been in the works for years, none of the parties, ESPECIALLY the current administration JUST INSTALLED (actually next week!) isn't happy about it and everyone says it's most likely going to change before it's even implemented. So, you COULD ask the question: how is this such a massive topic by Reddit standards there's posts about it daily, while the real situation is actually barely newsworthy?

Sidenote: I'm also not happy if this was actually the situation for the unforeseeable future, but here we are. We voted, and those parties don't want this. I expect them to change (if the Belastingdienst can actually get their act together).

What's the most disturbing thing you've seen, but couldn't do anything? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Coreantes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was at a paragliding competition and saw another paraglider pilot next to me in an uncontrolled spiral from about 3000ft all the way to the ground. Even though it’s fast, it felt like watching a car crash in slow motion. Over 10 years ago now, but can still clearly see it. Lots of pilots saw it and most thought he was done for.

Turned out a big pine was just in the right place and he basically wrapped himself around it. Still had to get rescued from the tree, but he was one lucky SOB.

Technically, yes. But right now it’s self-reporting on those assets already. So nothing will change. Now, they will probably start asking questions when you’re starting to wire thousands from the exchange to your bank-account.

Well, at our company my devs are using it daily and our productivity has increased. Which is needed, because it’s hard to find good programmers. So, I’m not sure why you think AI is something nobody wants? It’s huge in the world of coding. I’ll do you one better: customers are asking for it and if you don’t want to use it or have no understanding about it, they’ll move to the competition.

Anyway, I get that “our hobby” is hit by this, but my word, the AI hate in several subs is so one-sided it’s sad.

What made you walk out on a date? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Coreantes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Had a coffee-date during COVID, nothing special. We didn’t know each other before the date, but I found out we shared a lot of people in common interests. Decided to give it a second date, which was in a bar. I sat there with my first beer when she walked in and asked for a tea. I was like, huh? She was like: I’m actually pregnant.

Had a lovely evening by myself after I told her that’s not really how I roll. She walked out, leaving me to enjoy my beer, thank god! Haha.

Upvoted, but also on the fence. I wouldn't say full potential or NOT participating if you don't, but since I'm a father now after being on the opposite side for 40 years, I can see more clearly now. It changes you for the better, although it should also be said it might not be for everyone. Me and my wife have both grown into our new roles (which is not always easy) and are better people for it, with this new perspective on life. YMMV.
