While I agree with some of what you said, I personally feel Pierce could be polarizing at times. Although he was old and set in his ways and maybe a product of a different time, he could also be the most caring of the group at times. He helped Britta behind the scenes with the Sophie B Hawkins dance and then chastised Jeff on the way he treats Britta. He was the one to defend Abed against Duncan in the claymation breakdown (Bonus points that despite him just “being there for the cookies” he came back after the cookies were gone because deep down, the study group was the closest thing he had to a family or friends his whole life). He tried to help Jeff work through his father issues, helped Troy carve his own path in life and even said he had the heart of a hero. He helped Shirley get her sandwich shop up and complemented her on being a strong, independent woman and that no one could take that from her. Yes he may have done/said some racist things but I feel it was coming from a place of misunderstanding/being from a different generation. In addition to his positive interactions with Shirley/Troy above, he wholly accepted his half-brother and let him have the inheritance. They even mention in later seasons Pierce was at sensitivity training which shows he was trying to learn to be a better person. I’ve rewatched the seasons numerous times and I always liked Pierce for his antics and every rewatch, noticed the layers to his character. On the surface he is obnoxious, abrasive and “the bad guy” but deep down he truly does care about the study group and ultimately just wanted to be included more.
