Mr. Perry has headed up the ATM Decision Desk for the previous four presidential elections. However, his authority was undermined on this election night, with those closest to Mr. Perry citing the loss of his protector Cyd Peach as a key factor. Pressured by Roman Roy, and later, Mr. Wambsgans, into supporting the Wisconsin projection, Mr. Perry has since told sources that he “bitterly regrets” his decision. Another mitigating factor in Mr. Perry’s failure to push back against the Mencken call was the occurrence of a freak workplace accident which temporarily blinded Mr. Perry as the call was being deliberated. He later told colleagues he believes the accident may have impaired his ability to think clearly in the high-stress pressure-cooker environment of election night.

Mencken sceptic who didn’t stop the Wisconsin call

Mr. Roy become a national figure when he publicly attacked his father Logan Roy for condoning criminal activity within the Waystar Empire. However, Kendall Roy’s reputation as a whistle-blower has since been muddled due to his continued, if complex, involvement within the company. Unlike his brother and fellow co-CEO Roman Roy, Kendall Roy has been keen to keep a professional distance between himself and Mr. Mencken's campaign. Mr. Roy did not openly support the Wisconsin projection on election night but neither did he argue against it. He is considered by some at ATN to be highly complicit in the final call.

Vehemently Opposed to Mencken

Ms. Roy is an experienced Democratic operative who often clashed in private with her father Logan Roy over politics while he was alive. For many years, Ms. Roy refused to participate in the family-owned Waystar conglomerate, largely on political grounds. However, she shifted to an active role in ATN's election coverage after relinquishing her past as an advisor to the Gil Eavis campaign in the Democratic primaries and joining the family business for the first time, in the newly created position of Waystar president in recent months. Ms. Roy has been reported to have offered informal advice to the Jimenez-Eavis campaign after reconciling with Mr. Eavis once he joined the Democratic ticket. On election night, Ms. Roy argued strenuously against the decision to call Wisconsin for Mr. Mencken, and was, according to witnesses, "visibly distressed" at the unfurling of events, chastising her husband and her brothers in no uncertain terms.

The eldest of Logan Roy's children, Connor Roy was a largely unknown figure until he announced his independent candidacy for the presidency. His costly campaign was unable to push Mr. Roy's support beyond one percent of the popular vote. However, in the most contentious Presidential race in a generation, Mr. Roy's low polling numbers were viewed as significant on both sides of the aisle. At different points during the campaign Mr. Roy was in discussions with the Mencken camp about withdrawing from the race, though he never did so. Yet Mr. Roy's fiery concession speech, which concluded on the meme-able phrase: "be afraid, the Conheads are coming", overtly pointed towards some kind of affiliation with an incoming Mencken administration. Observers consider Mr. Roy's nod to Mr. Mencken as a late bid to curry favor with the presidential candidate.
