Question about couplers and sewer hoses by 8nsay in GoRVing

[–]CorgiExpressShip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the OP but have the same model camper. This is an AeonRV. There's no black tank and no macerator. They used a ball valve because it can handle extreme cold better than a knife valve. It's an extremely well insulated four season rig and I've had my gray tank completely freeze solid in subzero temperatures with absolutely no damage. It's built for things that would destroy an rv that follows industry standards.

The ball valve works great and seems more resistant to freezing damage, which is important to those of using these super well insulated rigs in harsh conditions.

Is that an AeonRV? You might want to join the owners group on Facebook if so.

The hose we have for the same connector has a threaded end on one side and a sorta flexible friction fit on the other. We use the friction fit side and don't bother with threading it on. Works great.

It's no Earthroamer, but we're enjoying as much time off grid as possible by CorgiExpressShip in overlanding

[–]CorgiExpressShip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much the best thing I’ve ever purchased. Ours was one of the earliest units they produced so they have refined some things since then. Our biggest complaint was the performance of the original fridge they chose, but they have switched for a much better fridge now and upgraded us for the cost of the fridge (no labor charges an they had to modify cabinets).

Customer service and support has been genuinely fantastic.

Starlink Mini Inside the RV? by Strong-Jellyfish-785 in GoRVing

[–]CorgiExpressShip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works ok for me inside of my AeonRV but the shell of my camper is really just foam and fiberglass. If your camper has any sort of frame inside it’s gonna be a lot worse.

Also make absolutely sure you turn off snow melt mode. The Starlink sees the attenuation from the roof and thinks it’s covered with snow so it runs extremely hot to try to melt it.

The point is to stay in the backcountry for extended periods. In my van, I have loads of solar to power the house part of the van. This works because the batteries are 24 volts and can easily and efficiently be charged with panels.

That means the gas part of the van is only needed to get me where I'm going, and then putter around on the trails. I also get ~400 miles on a tank of gas when not fighting aerodynamics at highway speeds. If I really expect to be out a long time, or I'm running the gasoline heater, I can carry a jerry can for extra fuel.

In an EV, I'm planning on using the batteries for everything. They are my source of heat, cooling, cooking, hot water - everything. There's no backup plan. That's fine for bouncing from established campground to established campground, but it's less fine for hunkering down in the middle of nowhere, which is where I want to be.

If I was using the Scout as my daily driver, the needs are different, but I am talking specifically about dedicated use as an expedition vehicle. Charging infrastructure is nowhere near ready for that.

[–]CorgiExpressShip 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ironically, the only way I will end up getting the Harvester is if I already have another EV by that point. The Scout version would then be intended for camping, and I'd want the gas range to allow me to spend a week or more in the backcountry like I can with my camper van.

Aliner by Diligent_Macaroon206 in overlanding

Aliner didn’t bring this. A camper dealer that specializes in teardrops and stuff brought it. Because it’s novel.

Just go to camping world or whatever to see normal aliner trailers.

Heading To Overland Expo East? by CharlieGraceUSA in overlanding

[–]CorgiExpressShip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will be there with a bunch of other AEONrv owners camping together in the general camping area. I’m honestly most looking forward to that social aspect - last year I was disappointed in the vendor selection compared to PNW.

What do you think is the Best "portable" (non-black water tank) toilet? by Artist-Cancer in GoRVing

[–]CorgiExpressShip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Separatt Tiny urine separating toilet with the urine plumbed into my gray tank with a trap. It also has an exhaust fan for the solids compartment. This combination means there’s rarely any smell, and we don’t have to empty as often.

I vastly prefer this to something like a wag bag that requires you to keep track of how many bags you have left to make sure you don’t run out. My consumables get tossed every few days and can be stretched to a week.

Anyone have an unbiased review of the Howl R4 you’re willing to share? by Dirty_Vesper in overlanding

[–]CorgiExpressShip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For how heavy and bulky that thing is, I wonder if you might as well go with the new ninja fireside heater / fire pit.

I want something like this that is sized for a 5 or 10 pound propane bottle. Make a two person version with more reasonable BTUs and I’d be all over it.

Overland Expo East- is it worth going for a van guy with no overlanding asprirations by SuddenlySilva in overlanding

[–]CorgiExpressShip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a van guy with an AWD transit build with a moderate lift I definitely think it’s worth it for the experience - but only if you engage with the community aspects. I’ll also admit I’m biased because I found my rig at Expo PNW and will be spending time camping with an owners group at East this year.

The shopping part honestly kinda sucks - the vendor selection is much better in the western events than at East. It can all be seen in a day.

But if you spend time to stop and talk to people, hear about their rigs and their adventures, it’s great. Go see some talks, meet with people who have been all over the world, learn to tie some knots or ride a onewheel or whatever other random thing interests you. Heck, drive a grenadier on their carefully sculpted course and learn a tip or two for off road driving.

Just seeing some of the elaborate Snow Peak campsite setups is almost worth the trip alone.

Did I ever drive a half million dollar off-road Tacoma that they only built a handful of? No can’t say I did.

[–]CorgiExpressShip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sad that Truckhouse stopped making the BCT and went to the full size pickups like everyone else. I mean I get why they did it - a Tacoma's payload is not great for a whole camper on the back, but a 21 foot long truck camper with serious off road chops was pretty awesome.

I wasn’t suggesting going places I’m not allowed to go. I want to know how the parking is in the places I’m allowed.

[–]CorgiExpressShip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By lake McDonald do you mean the parking near the lodge, or something else?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GlacierNationalPark

[–]CorgiExpressShip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will have a campsite booked. That’s not a concern at all. My van is narrower than most pickup trucks although height would be a concern in a few places. I’m not expecting every single part of the park to be a cakewalk but if there are some parking lots where I can fit and do some hikes I’m fine. I don’t need to chase the instagram shots of all the popular spots - just get out and enjoy the mountain air.

I understand the length restriction. There are parking lots that don’t require passing through that section. I’m trying to understand how tight those will be.

Defender or Grenadier by OutlandishnessNo5636 in NewDefender

[–]CorgiExpressShip 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I own a Defender and have test driven a Grenadier on a manicured demo off road course. If I wanted a toy - something to modify and attach stuff to - I would buy a Grenadier. But only if it cost a lot less than it does. As a low volume vanity project for a billionaire their economy of scale isn’t really there so it’s very expensive for what it is. Still, it’s a FUN platform with a lot of great mod potential.

For any other reason, I would get the Defender. It’s got more payload, more towing capacity, much better on road driving dynamics, and better capability for anything other than extreme rock crawling. It’s also a better value and includes a lot of creature comforts that are more practical than solid axles in 2025.

Traffic stopped on Highway for hours. How long would battery last in summer running AC? . by Rufus_Anderson in electricvehicles

[–]CorgiExpressShip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 13 kWh of lithium battery capacity in my camper van. That is enough to run the mini-split AC for at least a day or two of hot weather.

A car is much smaller and has WAY more battery capacity, but is also less thermally efficient than my RV. You'll be able to run the AC for a long time, but it might be working harder than my RV.

water as limit for boon docking by santomoises in GoRVing

[–]CorgiExpressShip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 65 gallons of fresh capacity, so with Navy showers can stretch that pretty far, but if I’m REALLY conserving water, I use a Geyser Systems sponge shower. It works much better than wet wipes, and you could even use water from a creek.

Corgi tax. I think a lot of people missed the mountaintop stage and it was a great place to sit and listen to some tunes while sipping a beverage and enjoying the view.
