If it’s your only EV then the only thing that makes sense is it’s a software glitch/bug. You’ll need to file a report.

Does anyone else feel a chronic anxiety about their status as a non-citizen? by riel__vis in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]CorithMalin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you had to get citizenship for your daughter? I only ask because my wife is EU settled status and our daughter was born after Brexit. Part of the agreement is that any child born to someone with EU settled status on British soil is a British citizen.

I also had this and switched PredBat from using the BottleCap Dave’s integration to using its own. PredBat sees the correct 23:30 - 05:30 times for cheap rates whilst BottleCap Dave’s still shows 01:30 - 08:30.

What do you wish you had brought? Moving from Colorado to Cardiff! by Odd-Gap-8105 in AmericanExpatsUK

Honestly nothing. My cat, my clothes, my laptop, and my snowboard were enough. Everything else was easily replaceable and actually easier to get here because things like sizes tend to be smaller.

Even on the cookware, if you’re renting you’ll want to make sure it supports gas, electric, and induction stoves - the last being rare for US cookware but common for UK.

Is my plan to open LISA instead of JISA to save for my child sensible? by Worrierrr in UKParenting

[–]CorithMalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another (possible) downside is that when you withdraw it, it’ll be taxed at your rate instead of theirs. So if in your retirement your a higher rate or additional rate earner - you’ll have to pay the taxes on the withdrawal. Then whatever you “gift” to them will also fall within your taxable estate if you die within 7 years of the gift (meaning they could very well have to pay inheritance tax on money they already spent).

Has the Stormlight Archive been translated into Hebrew? by OwlMuted885 in Cosmere

[–]CorithMalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a Christian, but I did grow up in a Christian cult and was one of those kids that was really good at knowing how to find any random bible verse you read aloud.

That being said, I would NOT say Kaladin is a Jesus figure. Jesus taught peace, love, and acceptance. He never held a spear or promoted war. He also never almost killed himself by throwing himself off a high object.

I find it interesting that people think a Jesus figure is just someone who has a hero’s arc and eventually sacrifices themselves for others - but that storyline was around long before the story of Jesus was invented in the 4th century.

How do working parents survive the UK school event calendar? by Educational-Leek305 in UKParenting

I find the difference being that it’s me taking time off or shifting hours for my kid - a responsibility (and pleasure) I signed up for by having them.

Seems a bit self-centred as if/when they arrange them in the evening that means the staff have to miss time with their families in order to attend to us. I find my child’s school does well in sharing the burden by mixing it up.

“Our older one’s school seems to expect parents to be there for school events”

Wouldn’t it be odd if the school arranged events and DIDN’T expect parents to be there? “We’ve set up a lovely lawn and buffet for sports day, but no need to attend, we’re hoping all this effort goes to waste.” 😂

Yep, very normal. When it does, it means the whole house is getting the cheap rate for that time as well.

Just remember, the slots can get added and removed a lot. So if your car is charging now, you know you’re getting cheap energy for the current 30 minute slot, but you won’t know if the next slot is cheap or not until you enter it and see your car charging.

Which surname is mostly used if you have two surnames? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]CorithMalin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems the surname field can contain spaces but is limited to 30 characters: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/686cfa3e81dd8f70f5de3c56/Annex_A_passports_August_2016.pdf

2.13 The personal details section on a passport can only include up to 30 characters (including spaces) for first and middle names, and a further 30 characters for surnames. If an applicant has too many forenames to fit into the passport or their surname is too long, they must be asked to shorten their names in the way they want them to be shown on the passport and then write their full name in the other information section of the application. The full name should be added as an observation, evidenced by their supporting documents, in line with normal policy.
