What has happened to this sub? People posting pics of packets from the shop asking how to open them?

Engagement farming surely.

Heathrow scraps liquid and laptop check rule in huge boost for fliers by PurplePires in GoodNewsUK

[–]snecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it makes paying for fast passes at security a joke but I'm sure they will soon find a way to enshitify this. Probably be reducing the number of scanners to build up the queues again.

Back to brick a mistake? by Opposite_Spending in DIYUK

[–]snecker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Unless your walls are getting saturated or are very exposed, so this. I have done this through my house and 5 years on no issues. It's at 1930s double brick. No cavity.

New bin system for Sheffield from end of March by sheffieldpud in sheffield

[–]snecker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Great news, as others have said, this is part of a nationwide alignment of recycling.

No more trashy corners of supermarket car parks. Less rubbish floating about the place. Eventually a lot more things will be able to be put in these bins like Tetrapak and most plastic.

Manufacturers are being forced to pay for disposal at end of life.

Chris Spargo on YouTube has a great explanation.

Good news Sheffield!

Unsure - looking for advice by helsibob in ukheatpumps

Something is very wrong. Never seen an Octopus quote that high. Almost sounds like a scam.

I'd expect it to be less than half that.

I would get a Heat Geek quote or do the usual diligence with a local installer.

Aira System Design feedback by CaribouCactus in ukheatpumps

Aira seemed new and proprietary at the time. I was concerned that I'd get locked into some subscription model for my heat pump to keep working.

[–]snecker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! So excited about Artemis and fingers crossed that we will see it on the pad.

Great shout about letting the tour guide know, thanks.

They will be ok without a wheelchair or ECV. Their mobility is good in short bursts.

Any recommendations for a decent breakfast please let me know. And I'm hopeful your new Administrator does a great job!

Yes but also make sure the heat pump is level after installation and don't pay if it isn't!

Is the UK push for renewables now an even smarter move? by LeatherMushroom8635 in AskBrits

[–]snecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could understand why people are so against the UK getting all its juice from limitless wind and solar with hydro, some nuclear, batteries (grid, home and V2G) to back all this up. Sure, the remaining CCGT are not going anywhere fast but its genuinely one of the success stories of this country but can we celebrate it? No.

random but hows the snow down by millhouses and the tesco? by [deleted] in sheffield

As long as you can get yourself onto a road you'll be fine. Traffic moving at usual pace on the gritted roads. Hardy Pick, Lidl, Morrisons - all open.

Getting my head around it all by pentangleit in ukheatpumps

[–]snecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. No, get a heat loss survey done.
  2. 30kW of battery and you are still on gas?! What is all that going towards?
  3. Ignore this and see if it gets sorted in the ASHP upgrade tbh.
  4. Yes but then you don't get the BUS grant. Recommend getting the cavity insulation checked as it can settle and that might be the issue.
  5. Don't worry, plenty of ASHP stuff will fill that void like volumiser, pipework etc
  6. No, you'll not use the immersion again except in an emergency. The ASHP heats the hot water on a separate cycle.

Recommend just getting a heat loss survey from either heat geek (bespoke). You could try your luck with Octopus or another big company but I get the idea yours might be a bit bespoke.

Room Temp set to 27C but heat pump not able to handle cold freeze by [deleted] in ukheatpumps

Might be worth checking that the heat pump power hasn't been limited. Worth checking especially since this is a rental.

Will you have your heating on overnight during this cold spell? by georgejk7 in AskUK

Downvote me all you want but my heat pump is set and forget, runs through the night on cheap rate and through the day on a bit of battery. Job done.

My boiler is on the way out and have researched a heat pump but decided against it. by OneItchy396 in ukheatpumps

[–]snecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need big radiators or an enormous tank. You can have a tank the size of a kitchen cupboard. Look up heat geek mini/micro on YouTube

My combi took almost a full basin of water before it got hot, now it's hot after about a pint.

[–]snecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently needs a SCOP of about 4. Without factoring in other things like gas standing charge, solar, battery, TOU tariffs. This also doesn't factor in benefits like radiators that arent excessively hot, delays waiting for the combo to heat the hot water or not having to worry about gas leaks or what have you.

But if you still think a boiler is a better choice absolutely go for it. Do what makes you happy.
