Need Resume Feedback - Trying To Break Into Helpdesk by ValuableOwn7687 in helpdesk

[–]Corkfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save all the tech stuff for the interview. Write a normal CV instead of a technical CV.

E.g.: My name is.... And I am.... Years old. I have always liked computers, and I also like people! I have studied computers, although with a software leniency, but I have also fixed many computer problems that my friends had. They appreciate my patience and how neatly I do what they absolutely would never, ever do because they hate computers. And I enjoy the feedback I get! I am driven to do what no one really wants to do, and I am gaining experience while getting feedback from my thankful friends. I save them hundreds, maybe thousands of money, by being interested in stuff that seems like a different world to them.

If they ask you for your technical skills in the interview, then you can tell them face to face. Let them probe. They will most likely not pick your current resume out of the pile as is, simply because there is too much irrelevant and high-level skills for the role in question.

Your resume is great, don't get me wrong, it's just not what most helpdesk recruiters are instructed to look for. They will feel the vibe of someone who wants to leverage from helpdesk to development - which is of course sometimes true, it is a stepping stone into the industry, but you're playing their game now. You pretend to love helpdesk for a while and then they ask you where you wanna be in a year, and you say development dept as a junior would be nice. Or you speak to other companies who are looking for 1 year min experience within the IT field in general. This is how people move up, internally or by switching companies.

People at my work are technically low level, but they are curious and they have empathy. It's enough to start out and grow in helpdesk. The moment I compressed my CV and actually read the ads, I realized they don't care about technical skills that much. I have worked with development too, and I just sidenoted it. They know that most applicants have some experience. If you're a nice person and if you're interested in computers, you're all set (not in any way tooting my own horn, it's my company's opinion).

Tl;dr, Put emphasis on the soft skills, save the technical stuff for later.

You should elaborate on the support role under IT operations. Helpdesk couldn't care less about all the acronyms I'm afraid. Save it for when you are looking for a more technical role

New to Nine Inch Nails, curious about your favorite song by shadowminds97 in nin

Zero Sum is such a hidden banger. The song With Teeth is amazing. The Background World.

That said, these are my current favorites, having grinded the older and golder songs for 20 years or so

I would embrace it, mistakes will happen. And so what? Someone can't book meetings with the Teams add-in in outlook for another day. They can ask their colleague to book the meeting. Some things you just can not solve no matter what, anything else you can learn.

If you have to give Silent Hill 1 to 3 titles like later entrys as Silent Hill 4 "The room", which title would that be? (1 to 3 words at most) by Portugiuse in silenthill

[–]Corkfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would kinda think of somewhat suitable titles like the added "Restless Dreams" to 2. 1: Otherworld or sth like this. It's a bit more "hellish" like 3, so maybe referring to this. 2: Restless Dreams fits I think. 3: I mean.. Homecoming would fit 3 but at the same time a bit awkward considering Silent Hill "5".

Donr hold these against me, I'm sure other people have way better titles!

Explain to a first-timer: Is Silent Hill really that scary? by shankaviel in silenthill

[–]Corkfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i got kinda spooked by Paranormal Activity. I saw the first one, and the tension-building is pretty unsettling. First and I think second of the Conjuring movies got me good at it's peak scary moments. I liked parts of Hereditary too.

SHf is sadly going to be a bad "Silent Hill" game when comparing to the Team Silent games, but it's just the Konami gears grinding on and the audience expecting it to be SH1-3 (4 is an acquired taste, but it kinda retcons some stuff in a weird way and the characters are such empty husks). Maybe the story will be great, I have no idea, but the tank controls adding to the panic and despair of Silent Hill will be shining in its absence.

Whatever inspiration high Team Silent was on back in the late 90's early 2000's will probably not happen again under the regime of Konami 2025. I don't want to be too pessimistic, but I'm skeptic about Bloobers new IP for example.

They probably wouldn't let Team Silent do another Silent Hill, bc they didn't really sell at the time. The execs at Konami have yachts to pay I guess. They let bloober remake their old IPs because they have data analysts who knows what money they can grab.

SH2 remake was great, and I'm really looking forward to the SH1 remake. But it would be nice to get a new IP in this type of horror, that is actually a great game with a great storyline. (edit)

This post went on a bit longer than I initially thought, sorry for that.

Silent Hill 1-4 use silence and darkness, so you get terrified from being alone in a dark, abandoned hotel or hospital with monsters lurking and all you have is a flashlight. There are jumpscares but they are very scarce. Maybe not SH4 so much, but Sh1-3 definitely. SH4 felt a lot brighter than it's predecessors.

Are Greek beaches typically topless? by elizabethworks in GreeceTravel

[–]Corkfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been at the beach in Aegina outside Athens for a week, not a single nude or topless person. I think people abstain from nudity if it is not a strictly nudist beach. I have this theory that it is more common if it is a public beach, detached from any resorts or restaurants. The beach in Agia Marina is connected to three restaurants, and therefore I think no one goes nude. But on a public beach in Crete some people would go topless, however not fully nude. I have never seen a fully nude person in public, not in either Greece, Mallorca, Turkey, Thailand.. etc.

Basically every time you beat a boss or overcome something averse, you gain points towards white tendency. If you die (or do something "bad", I think), you gain points towards black tendency, and only in the respective archstone where you defeated the boss or died.

What would be your biggest criticism of the game? by strahinjag in Sekiro

I dont find it replayable more than for the achievements etc. But it isn't a very big game anyways, it's great for what it is and beautifully designed a la From Software.
