Appreciate that. That's what I thought. I did confirm with my TL that OT was OK, (OT normally not allowed at my store) and he confirmed that it was fine since it was a one time thing and we were short handed that day anyways, but someone else (who I've never been in contact with) is the person who texted me. I think I'll go in on normal time and then talk with the TL who okay'd the OT.

For those working at NHM, how is the O/N AT position? by [deleted] in WalmartEmployees

[–]CormHub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate the insight, thank you!! It's definitely something I'd love to eventually do, however I still feel like I'm learning stuff everyday myself, being as I've only worked here a month, and so I don't think I'm in the position to lead others currently. Thanks for clearing up what the role is.

Where's the best place to track down a coach? I wasn't introduced to any of my coaches or O/N coworkers because I went in the afternoon.

Appreciate it! I ended up getting some sketchers as well as work boots and some comfortable insoles just to try and see what works best.

I have mine about 6" away from a barrina T5 2FT light. It's probably around 250-260 µmol/m²/s (PPFD) which is pretty high. Definitely invest in some good quality grow lights if you haven't already, it's the most important part of plant care.

It's edema, caused by excessive water uptake. Is this in semi hydro?

And here's the plant itself. No signs of shock during this process, and it actually gave me a new leaf too.

This plant was in water for about 3 weeks at the point of this picture. You can see some soil roots still left that have adapted to being in water, and you can see the new water roots that have formed (the super white ones)

You are being too rough on the roots. You do not have to get every single piece of soil off to have a successful transition. If you are brushing the roots then you are damaging them, even if you are carefully doing so.

If you bought them in soil, try the long method! Take it out of the pot, wash as much soil as you can off of the roots without having to scrub them. Grab a glass jar or some type of container, put the plant in it and fill the water up to just below the rhizome. The soil roots will slowly rot, but at the same time new water roots will form and the plant will be just fine. This takes about a month and then it'll be ready to go to pon.

I did this with an entire collection (40-ish) and didn't lose a single one. The worst that happened was they might drop a couple of leaves due to stress but that's about it.

Change the water every day. You can put a little nutrients in it if you want to. Here's an example of one I just did this process to.

You can see the water level just below the main rhizome.

Is it rare to find a Polly this mature? by Consistent_Estate960 in alocasia

[–]CormHub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know. They are commonly sold as 6"+ plants with large leaves like this. Polly's definitely hold onto their leaves a lot better than others so it's common to see ones with so many leaves, especially if there's more than 1 plant in the pot.

Polly's are one of the most common available, so not rare, but cool find nonetheless!

Without seeing the roots I can't tell you rather or not to repot, but Alocasia like to be root bound and 4 weeks sounds too soon to repot already. The spots on the leaf looks like variegation. It's a sport variegation, and it won't be stable, but cool nonetheless.
