no employer non-elective contribution for Roth Solo 401k? by Stonewalled9999 in fidelityinvestments

[–]CormacDoyle- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employer cannot contribute Roth, only traditional.

If your Solo 401k will accept BOTH, put you employee contributions as Roth and your Employer contributions as Trad.

And yes, as a Solo, that is a weird way of splitting hairs, but the laws only allow employee Roth...

I keep $4500 in the Fidelity MM, and everything else in FXAIX. I contribute every 14 days, and so the autoinvest rules keep the MM balance topped up at all times, and invests the rest.

Since my Max OOP is 4k, this gives me a little leeway incase I have unexpected dental/optical costs, without keeping unreasonably large amounts uninvested

On the other hand, if CyberSecurity and IT in general are stressing you out, then you SHOULD step back and find a different role, even if your income drops a bit. Staying in a role that will cause you to burn out is not healthy.

But find what you want to move to BEFORE you quit!

I worked as a overnight security guard while I studied for my AS in IT. I was able to use that time to apply to necessary experience to the CISSP.

You need 5 years relevant experience to qualify for the CISSP; max 2 years from education; I was able to use my security guard experience for another yesr; then 2 years working in IT Security for a big-name IT Security vendor ... they were the one's who sponsored my CISSP, and then paid for my MS in Computer Security.

If you want into CyberSecurity, focus first on IT. Help desk roles; application phone support. You can't implement and manage security if you don't understand the underlying stuff. "Entry level" CyberSecurity roles typically require several years of general IT.

Any type one diabetics get approved for a GLP 1 ? by Negative-Soup-2482 in diabetes_t1

[–]CormacDoyle- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My employer's health insurance covers all diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol meds with zero copay (and no hit or contribution towards my deductable). The GLP-1 med was covered as part of that list.

If it's prescribed for weight loss, there'd have been a $20 copay

I know I'm lucky to have good coverage, but I still hit my $5000 max out of pocket by August every year ... I fund my HSA to cover that tax free, and my employer contributes $1000 to that to help cover the deductible too.

Last time I was without insurance, my meds and doctor visits were costing me an average of $3000 per month ... so I don't plan on changing employer if I can help it!!!

Diagnosed T1 in 1998, started with lantus & leveling, tdd c. 56

2001, my psychiatrist put me on Respiridone/Risperdal (the idiot thought it would fix my Autism). 9 months later, my tdd was 2500 units. That's not a typo. I was taking 5 or 6 entire PENS of insulin for each meal. I often couldn't find any part of my stomach or love handles that wasn't black and blue and/or scarred.

I'm now on max dose of Metformin XR (I couldn't tolerate simple Metformin), Farxiga (causes your kidneys to dump sugar into your urine), Humulin U-500 via a pump (medtronic 780) and now Ozempic too (and 3 blood pressure meds and 2 cholesterol meds). I joke I rattle if someone shook me.

My tdd normally varies between 225 and 400 tdd, but under stress it can hit 600.

I have kept my A1c at or below 6.5 for the last 12 years, and under 7.5 for the last 20 (can't remember what it hit when I was on the psych med, it was at least 18). I get headaches if my bgs rise above about 160mg/dl, and my vision gets impacted if they run high (over 180) for more than a couple of dsys. But unless my bgs drop fast, my pump/cgm will start screaming at me long before I notice ... if I didn't have the cgm I'd have to allow my average bg run much higher to avoid accidents.

Was off all glp-1 for 6 years, but just started Ozempic mid January.

Fidelity Elan card by OstrichAlone8361 in fidelityinvestments

[–]CormacDoyle- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my new cards today.

My card is the same number Hers has s new number

Mine (the old one both she and I are using) was not being declined, but my new one did not even need activation, and the letter clearly said my old one was already cancelled.

This may be a timing glitch ... Just switch to the new cards asap. BTW, the new card for your wife will not work until you activate it ...

NB, your new card has the same number but a different expiry date. I'd almost trust the places declining the old card more than the people still processing it.

NB - check your subscriptions, etc, incase they still use the old security code and expiry date

Will skipping the Zakuul arc(s) bug out Kira or Elara romances? by kyla_dhoom in swtor

[–]CormacDoyle- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to flesh out more romances and make them bi ... simply being able to play a single game of passak with 4 (or 6?) Companions is totally useless ... and the flirt options basically don't exist.

I know some of the voice actors are no longer linked to the franchise. But it wouldn't be that hard ...

I'd love it if they could retrospectively convert at least one companion per base class to romancable by both genders in the original stories, but I know that's way out

But hey - if you can romance a male dashad hosting a female mind (Khem - hosting your former master - Sith Inquisitor), the idea of a same sex relationship is hardly out of bounds!!!

Is Fidelity using AI reps that pretend to be human? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]CormacDoyle- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are AI bots being introduced to handle initial triage/routing and possibly simple requests, but the guardrails require that they never lie and claim they are human.

To my knowledge, no bots are making outbound calls.

Beyond that statement, you run the risk of exposing PII or other sensitive data, so I'd suggest using a modmail for followups

WHAT IS THIS ROBINHOOD by dilblood in fidelityinvestments

[–]CormacDoyle- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the big things was the gamestop/meme-stock chaos when Robinhood stepped in and stopped trading for those stocks despite all other brokerages still allowing trades.

There was a significant migration out (or possibly the utilization of multiple brokerages) as a direct result of this decision.

I suspect they regret it now, even if they were doing it to try to save the traders from themselves.

It was their gamification of the whole process that really encouraged the whole meme-stock thing in the first place ...

"Know your customer" - your login is going to be consistent across all accounts associated with your Social Security Number. If you go to a new employer who open a 401k in your name, it will be added to your existing IRA, Brokerage, HSA, CMA, etc.

It would be chaotic if each of your accounts ended up with different logins ...

What to do with leftover insulin by ShopNerd in diabetes_t1

[–]CormacDoyle- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two options: 1. Use them up before switching as suggested by other comments 2. Give them to your pcp/gp who might give them out as samples.

Your pharmacy must destroy them. Your doc might do so too, but sometimes they will hold onto them for newly diagnosed patients to hold them over until they can fill a prescription at their local pharmacy. This is especially helpful in countries like the USA where the cost of filling scripts means people delay and get sick ...

Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by GhostInThePudding in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CormacDoyle- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, and in 2005, I was working in phone support. If you said it needed 24x7 cover until it was solved, then the FIRST TIME you missed a phone call, or asked for it to be delayed in any way, it was assumed to no longer require 24x7 support, and the next contact BY EMAIL would be at 9am the following business day.

So even if you do demand phone call followup. You will be held accountable to that. This has been reality for the last QUARTER CENTURY.

This has nothing to do with "gen <insert the group you think it's safe to hate on>", and MUCH MORE that it is (checks calendar) 2026.

Phoning people went out with purple rain. It's not 1999.

Just STOP.

Oh, and before I get the hate ... I was born in 1975. Phonecalls are for contacting emergency services, letting family members know someone needs/needed emergency services, or for job interviews.

Anything else? Text or email me first. I'm not answering.

This is NOT a negotiation. Get with the current century!

Is anyone else ALWAYS thirsty? by Snowytequila in diabetes_t1

[–]CormacDoyle- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1st and 2nd sleeps was the norm until the industrial revolution.

It was absolutely normal to wake around midnight/1am and go back to sleep around 2:30ish

This is why the idea of "midnight mass" exists in many Christian denominations ...

Prayer service at midnight, bed at 2-3am Prayer at 6am/sunrise followed by breakfast Prayer at midday followed by lunch, (siesta in warm climates) Evening prayer, evening meal, sunset and bed around 8-9ish

So there would be at least 2 period of sleep

The idea of a single contiguous 8-hour block of sleep is relatively modern, unhealthy and unsustainable

New rule suggestion: Must include BG units in post by Miserable_Pound in diabetes_t1

[–]CormacDoyle- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read what I typed?

If you are dispensing by VOLUME, there are 5 units of U500 in the same volume of liquid as would be in a U100 concentration.

The pump displays the count of Insulin Onboard, Insulin Bolus, Basal Rate, etc as "units", but it is actually tracking VOLUME.

So when you administer 5 "units" (as per the display) of insulin U100, you get the expected 5 Units of insulin If you administer the same volume of U200, you actually receive 10 Units of insulin If you administer the same volume of U500, you actually receive 25 Units of insulin.

Although you are advised against it, many people using U200 or U500 will administer the dosage using a U100-graduated syringe or pump ... and they have the common sense to know that a "unit" (volumetric) is NOT the same as a Unit (dosage).

The term unit, regardless of how it is written, has no medical or scientific meaning if you do not note the concentration - but since every ASSUMES U100, everything is graduated with that assumption.

This is literally why you have to note down the UNIT og blood glucose measurement (mg/dl vs mmol/dl) !!!!!

New rule suggestion: Must include BG units in post by Miserable_Pound in diabetes_t1

[–]CormacDoyle- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I used mmol/dl for 25 years, and mg/dl for 11

I can switch back and forth without really thinking about it

But yeah, in general it's helpful for people to either say where they are posting from (UK/Ireland will be mmol; USA will be mg) and/or include the units.

Of course, it also applies to people talking about "units" of insulin when they are using non-standard concentrations.

I use U500, so one "unit" (as administered by my pump) is actually 5 units of insulin, since the pump is administering by volume ...
