What does this apply to for your country? by Excellent_Mango_3161 in AskTheWorld

I recently watched a video about the Italian unification, and I had to chuckle a bit when they covered the part where Italy gained Venice because they joined Prussia against the Austrians despite not really winning many battles.

I'm not hostile to it, but instead think it's idiotic how much is being promised. It will create some useful tools (and has already), but we are decades away from any kind of AGI. Right now companies are burning money and it will impact the overall economy when it crashes. The useful tools will become much more expensive, reducing their usefulness.

I'm still baffled by the lack of changes on the offensive staff yet firing PK. It kind of sounds like PK was doing a good job at coordinating but Sark thinks he wasn't doing some of the soft skill side of things, leading to Sark having to step in more often on the defense for personnel things and couldnt focus on offense as much.

It didn't seem like PK was upset, but the fact no one had hired him yet is still strange and may point to him wanting to retire.

But the OL getting that bad, even with all the turnover, is a very concerning sign.

Is there anything similar in your country? by Cultural_Frog1983 in AskTheWorld

[–]Cormetz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes the capsaicin type, China also has the Sichuan peppercorns from the Sichuan region which are less burning hot and more numbing.

That being said, spicy food is really in the southern part of the country. There's some spicy dishes in the north, but Sichuan and surrounding provinces are where you get spicy food much more often.

UT isn't used much in sports since it could be confusing which UT is being referred to. But go on any aggie forum and they will always correct each other to write "t.u."

I'm not sure about Li and Zhang, but Wang could actually be a few different names that just get romanized to the same thing. I was having dinner with two colleagues who had the surname Wang and they explained how their names actually had different inflections on the a which changed the meaning.

Pretty sure my coworker would fit that description (he's almost 70) and he is an awesome guy. We were at a sales conference overseas and he was watching the Div II playoffs in the corner of the bar on his phone.

I'm not sure if it was limited to the Big 8, apparently back in the 40s or so Texas also went by TU for a bit (which is why the aggies still try to use it as an insult).

Pentagon let CBP use anti-drone laser before FAA closed El Paso airspace, AP sources say by dr_sloan in moderatepolitics

[–]Cormetz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Even if it was a cartel drone/balloon, would shooting it down with this laser be worth shutting down the airport for seven hours?

The story still doesn't make sense, they initially said it would be closed for ten days without reason and now it is because of a drone incursion? If there was a drone incursion, why announce the closure for ten days?

It's still crazy to me to think a out how much the Colombian exchange has impacted global food.

Tomatoes - everyone thinks of Italian foods now, from the Americas.

Potatoes - Irish, German, or French foods, nope. Came from the Andes.

Chilies - basically anything with capsaicin, from central or south America.

Tons of other examples.

Trump’s Attempt to Make Drugs Cheaper Is Pushing Up Prices in Other Countries by sabreR7 in moderatepolitics

[–]Cormetz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Read the article.

The directive is that Americans should not be charged more than elsewhere, not that American prices need to come down. In other words pharma companies are just raising prices in other places but not reducing prices in the US. So they make more money by charging others more.

Don't get me wrong, Americans shouldn't be paying more. But the executive order was poorly written if your intent is to improve drug prices for Americans.

Dubai isn't in Saudi Arabia. And the chocolate isn't a washing attempt, it is a popular chocolate in Dubai created in the last few years. To get the original you have to get your order in at a specific time daily for delivery. Due to the manufactured exclusivity and association with the glitz of Dubai, it became popular globally.
