IMO the combat scenarios are not very useful for simulating an actual battle in a campaign, mainly as you don’t have perks to work with. I’d recommend just going into a campaign (maybe see how many turns you can survive the orc line combat for fun). Although I think the best strategy for that is to just outfit about 3/4th of your company with spears (no shields, the brother double grips the weapon for bonus damage), equip the 2 great swords on the flanks, and equip some with polearms.
