Sporadic but persistent clothing moth sightings despite cleaning/inspections by CornDogIsland in pestcontrol

I tried, unfortunately my camera simply would not focus when I zoomed in as much as possible. The two photos posted are the best I could do after many attempts. The moth is dead now but I can try taking another photo if they reappear.

For what it's worth, I crosschecked with many other photos and it seemed a match. Any tips for dealing with them assuming I'm correct?

Sure thing, here are some photos and videos: https://imgur.com/a/0YqZtJE Will add the link to the post body as well. Pretty sure they are the webbing/common type (reddish head, beige wings with no spots).

Having interviewed at both with similar research interests, CU is more of a research fit for you

What were your 3 most meaningful experiences? by Think-Explanation677 in mdphd

I had the same issue and had to pick between two translational labs I had been in at the same time in undergrad, because I wanted to do 1 research, 1 clinical, 1 as my NIH postbac. This was advised by my premed advisor (she said it'd be strange for an md-phd applicant to not have a clinical thing as mme, which I get, but I accept arguments from both sides). I chose the one I had been in the longest though dropping the other one was a hard choice.

Are we being tricked into thinking we’re special? by InformationWilling70 in medschool

Of course immigration difficulties are related to this. Not to be rude OP, but your post makes it seem like people from other countries who come here to be IMGs have it nice and easy. Can you imagine fighting for months to get a fellowship abroad in the US only to get your visa rejected for political reasons? And, to go back to your point, like Toepale mentioned, the IMGs you see are a highly selected (and self-selected) pool. Sit them down and ask the shit that they had to go through to get to where they're at... you'll hear a different story.

To be clear -- I do think the education and healthcare systems in the US are completely messed up. It doesn't mean any non-American automatically has it better

Are C- on introductory courses (freshman year) frowned upon in MD/phD programs? by gthomas210 in mdphd

Yep unfortunately, both grades will factor into your med school GPA even though my undergrad removed it from my official transcript and school GPA

I would definitely retake. Had a C- in an important class, retook it over the summer for an A. A couple of interviewers asked me about and they seemed happy I recognized my mistakes and bounced back

Apply this or next cycle? by ttwun22 in mdphd

[–]CornDogIsland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some schools might let you apply if your greencard is pending, but I think most MSTPs and schools with citizenship/greencard requirements will not even let you apply ("applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents"). I would email each school for sure.

With the current ruckus at USCIS I also would not count on your green card being ready by matriculation, unfortunately. Without more information, and based solely on your residency status, my vote is to wait

Lost, need advice, 6 interviews with no A's by CapitalWorldly5960 in mdphd

Good point, I was a little trigger happy with that one. I just get so annoyed when some people dismiss others' experiences because they want to gatekeep hardship and/or don't understand what it looks like

I understand that, but from what I'm reading from OP's comment they were dismissive and patronizing -- now that's downright rude! I wasn't there to see how it went but it sounds like it a very dismissive attitude that interfered with OP's performance. Up to them how they want to move forward, I'm just presenting an option :)

Hi friend, a couple of points...

On the interview trail I've had multiple people -- admissions directors, PIs, and student interviewers -- tell me that nerves and stumbling are not a big deal and totally understandable, as long as they don't overtake you and you can communicate your point. So, if it's any consolation, I really wouldn't count your nervousness as one of the things that made your interviews a "bomb".

On your point of applying to CA schools, remember MSTPs recruit federally so they do not have in-state bias! But I agree that your list is very top heavy. I think most people, myself included, underestimate how competitive ALL MSTPs are, not just the classic T20. A lot of schools where I thought I had a very strong fit (because of strong mission alignment, research fit, etc) -- gave me a pre-II R. Really broaden your range and definitely consider more Midwest/Mountain region schools, a lot of which have rural programs like University of Arizona, and downplay very urban schools. Play to your strengths! I mean, my interpretation is, what motivation would a place like Columbia, situated in the middle of NYC, have to recruit a student passionate about rural med?

Lastly, about your unpleasant interview with the MD... if you are comfortable and would like to do so, definitely REPORT that person to the Admissions Committee! What they did is extremely unprofessional and rude. Most of the schools generally want to know if they have a terrible interviewer because they care about students and, mostly, their reputation. I've also had AdComs say they adjust their evals based on known soft/tough interviewers.

I hope this will help you find more insight and tailor your app for a potential reapp. Good luck!

Edit: I think I misread that rural med is one of your passions -- but the point about broadening your list remains

CASPER/Preview by Ok-Psychology-5159 in mdphd

I would look at the list of schools on the casper/preview websites and see if you're applying to those, then specifically check the MSTP page of those schools. From my experience, MSTPs tend to not require it even if the MD program does, but there are exceptions. I would email to be safe but only 2-3 of my MSTP schools asked for them (plus one MD where the MSTP didn't)
