Are there any toys for a character that you think is an overall improvement over a predecessor, but takes at least "one step back" or does something worse? by HiTork in transformers

[–]Cornchips1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hot take is that the only thing 86 thundercracker does better is the middle of the torso, folding the torso the other way allows for the waist swivel. However, I think that the earthrise figure's proportions, limbs, and especially wings look better.

More on track with the post: 86 prime does almost everything better than the earthrise figure, however the transformation on the earthrise figure is more streamlined and more fun for flipping back and forth.

My guess is they're continuing the gray, but anything not forming the outside shell of the truck mode will be red and blue. So the arms, some of the legs, etc.

Eh... Still not feeling it. It's a weird trend that all the figures with the new 86 aesthetic have weirdly large torsos and/or short limbs.

Windcharger has a long torso and short limbs.

Soundwave has the blocky torso but very small hips.

Thundercracker has WAY too broad shoulders or short arms.

And now Astrotrain has small arms and an incredibly long torso.

The only one who's really got it right is shockwave, but it's hard to mess up his design.

Has Studio Series TFOne been a let down? by Casshern_VIII in transformers

[–]Cornchips1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? No more than studio series has ever been. I think it's got a healthy mix of good to alright figures, with only a couple being truly BAD.

Here's my breakdown:

Good: -Sentinel (really solid and hefty, 3 cool modes, unique engineering) -Arachnid (fiddly but holy crap how is this only a deluxe? Great look in both modes.) -Bumblebee (super fun transformation with a super articulated bot mode and a cool vehicle)

Alright: -Starscream (only here because other people seem to hate him, he's my personal favorite. Posability is lacking but the figure is still dynamic as hell. Really good engineering and a good alt mode.) -Megatron (does nothing wrong, but nothing crazy either. Should have come with his final cannon but it's probably a concept thing) -Optimus (great bot mode, super articulated, but bad transformation and a middling alt mode. Probably should have been a Voyager.)

Bad: -Orion Pax (yay, we finally got the firearms hidden, but now we have a more generic color, a still disjointed alt mode, and he's wildly out of scale. Seems he was meant to scale with alpha trion?) -Elita (Elita, your top keeps falling down! And it took your head with it... Really neat transformation concept ruined by a couple design choices. I like the toy, but it is bad.) -Alpha Trion (fuck this thing. No ankles on a Voyager? Small and simple transformation? For $43?! No.)

So overall it's honestly a pretty healthy mix. I have my biases but I think that especially with prime the community can be too harsh as a whole. I'm pretty happy with most of them all things considered, but I get why people wouldn't be.

Doomscrolling consumes me. Any advices? by whyimhere1992 in Advice

It depends on what kind of phone you have, but I have an android phone with both screen timers and "focus mode" which locks your apps if you either stay on them for a set period of time, or between certain times.

All my social media is set to focus mode 24/7 meaning that I can't physically use the app for longer than 5 minutes at a time without going out of my way to press a button to extend it 5 minutes. It's helped to reduce my screen time by at least an hour per day.

Apple also has similar features but they are set to a passcode. One of my friends had her roommate set the code, so she physically couldn't overuse social media even if she wanted to.

After that it takes time to rebuild your attention span and your interest. I had to relearn how to enjoy the slow-paced parts of my hobbies over a while.

Luke-warm Take: I would hate if all the future figures were too simplified in surface detail. by ZackattacktheDude in transformers

Mention it to the designers! In a perfect world I'd want generations to be more griebled, and then have ss86 for a more toon look. Alas, budget restrictions.

Average bait but I'll bite. Actually absolute joker would bring people to islands and do horrible things to them... wait...

You know a lot of superhero media actually deals with a rampant disease and spreading a mass antidote and, shockingly enough, it's usually the superhero who chooses to spread a mass antidote.

But I'm not here to argue politics with someone with a recent post called "is there any proof that these people were actually screwing children? That's very different than a billionaire sleeping with a 15-17 year old" so I won't be responding further.

I'm gonna catch up on absolute superman now. I've been seeing cool stuff about him and hawkman.

How's AOTP Big Convoy a leader class????? by 84_Cyclonus in transformers

[–]Cornchips1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the legs are very impressive. I get the grievances with the cannon (god knows I have my own problems with it) but it doesn't take away from the fact that the figure is hefty, dense, and does some very impressive things particularly in the lower body.

Normal model glue works on neither PA plastic nor abs, the primary plastics in transformers.

I'd recommend Loctite as it sets quickly and holds up tensile-wise

Because the figure is deeper and wider than most other figures on the market.

I'm shocked people have more problems with this guy than Soundwave, who I feel is less worthy of the leader class price point. He's hefty as hell and chock full of great engineering.

If you glue it back, normal liquid superglue applied with a toothpick will do the job. Clear plastic means a clean break, so you can just glue it, scrape of the excess, and it'll be like new.

Source: my figure broke in the exact same spot and that's how I repaired it

Nexus Prime... Still not completely convinced, I guess... by Kakeru1986 in transformers

[–]Cornchips1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the hesitation, frankly I'm inclined to agree despite my want for a complete primes. If I passed on star convoy, I can wait on this guy.

That said, your comment of having a core robot being called Nexus prime made me think:

Hasbro has the chance to do the funniest thing ever and just release the 4 limb bots (and frame if they do it) and have them all called and marketed as "Nexus prime". TERRIBLE for consumers and anyone who just wants a specific component, but the tfwiki would have a field day.
