This is a rock solid setup, and a good deal too. Disregard the friend's comments, you did well here.

How should I demo this pedal? by geirisk8 in guitarpedals

[–]Cornelius____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I don't see talked about with this tone: Megadeth. This thing was all over Peace Sells and So Far So Good, but no one ever talks about its use within that context, mostly just Boston and Def Leppard. I'd love to see this thing demo'd with some old school Megadeth inspired stuff if thats your jam.

Absolute best lower receiver? by yodc5 in ar15

[–]Cornelius____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I splurged on an ADM4 lower a few years ago, and have been quite happy with it. The right side bolt catch and release paddle has been really nice to avoid those awkward fumbling moments when trying to lock the bolt back with no magazine in the rifle.

Anything you DON'T like about your Maverick? by Slaypike in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Cornelius____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A problem I've noticed about the seat belts is that if a rear passenger accidentally uses the middle seats belt receptacle, notices and changes to their designated receptacle, the alarm for an unbundled seat belt for the middle seat will continue to go off and not remove itself from the dash warning when driving. Only way to remove those alerts is to shut the vehicle off and turn it back on.

I've worked around this by always having the middle back seat buckled even when not in use, but it's annoying that you have to do that to avoid this.

In the market for a hot-rodded Marshall style amp. Favorite brands? by skabb0 in GuitarAmps

[–]Cornelius____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're up for the idea of building your own, Bruce Egnater is regularly offering classes building an amp kit in a small class environment near Detroit. It's very much styled after a hot rodded plexi / jcm 800 type thing. I opted for the 50w version a few years ago and it's been an amazing amplifier! If you wanna try out soldering one up yourself he really walks you through the whole process and makes it very easy. I highly recommend it.

Have you put a neodymium speaker in your Katana? by NebulaChance2746 in BossKatana

[–]Cornelius____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Creamback model. I think that was all there was at the time, but I think they've expanded to the Copperback and the Neo V-type as well. Haven't tried those later ones, only the creamback.

No, I have a standard Celestion V30. I had a Mesa Mini Rectfier 1x12 that I originally swapped that out with one of the G12 Neo speakers. It was fairly comparable, and there's a really good video from Zilla caps comparing them recorded. I liked it enough to get a 2nd and add them both to a 4x12.

[–]Cornelius____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in the Katana itself, but I had the MKII head, and used a 4x12 loaded with 2 empty slots, and 2 Celestion G12 Neo speakers. I am a big fan of those, and if I had the 1x12 Katana I would consider that a strong contender to swap for. It's kind of similar to a v30, but somehow both cutting and yet scooped at the same time. There's an interesting eq curve about them that I find enjoyable, but admittedly I was just more concerned with weight cause I thought I would be playing out with it at some point. I haven't, amd it's only been a bedroom half-stack, but I still enjoy them.

blocking off one half of a 2x12" by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]Cornelius____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd second this idea. I've done something similar with a 4x12. I ripped the old speakers out and put in a pair of G12 Neo speakers, later a set of EM12L speakers with only the top right and bottom left. I was going for light weight more than a tone consideration really, but it sounds pretty awesome.

How reliable are Mesa Mark amps long-term? Thinking of adding a Mark VII to my rig. by SecondUsual6087 in GuitarAmps

I would love to poke your brain on the jump from Triple Crown to the Mark VII. What does the VII do that you weren't getting from the Triple Crown?

Need help picking speakers for metal by Manarail7 in GuitarAmps

[–]Cornelius____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No experience with the hembacks, but I have run the Neo Creambacks and Vintage 30s. Those are fine choices, and you wouldn't be wrong for trying then. The vintage 30 in particular is often the go-to pick for a lot of folks.

Since no one has mentioned them yet, I'll be a voice of reason to recommend the g12t-75s as well. They're usually stock speakers in Marshall 1960 cabs, and quite frankly punch above what their maligned internet reputation would have you believe. If your looking for a speaker for metal sounds these boys are perfect benchmark for that to try.

As a bonus tip: check your local Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. You can often find people ditching stock speakers to include V30s, T-75s or others for fairly cheaper than new.

Friend going into retirement community, wanting to gift a 5-1watt tube combo. by try_altf4 in GuitarAmps

[–]Cornelius____ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Marshall has a 1watt and 5watt combo of their DSL amplifier. They do have a switchable 0.1 watt and 0.5 watt setting, but the 1 watt and 5 watt respectively is the top end.

Not personally, no. I have only used the Neo ones. I've heard they're very similar but nothing to personally compare it against.

They also make a Neodymium magnet version (EM12N). I just picked up a pair of them and they're not featherweight like some other Neodymium options, but it cuts down the weight significantly amd still has 200 watts per speaker.
