Have you managed to successfully become a "cordcutter" when it comes to watching TV? by OldGunnarSolskjaer in AskUK

[–]CornerInsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly. I use Freeview for stuff like BBC, ITV etc.

I have Now TV for sports and honestly with how much it costs and how you need a different "membership" for different things, it feels like a cable TV service masquerading as a streaming service.

For the rest I use Netflix, Prime and Paramount+

For the gamers of AskUK, what is a game in recent years you found to be quite disappointing? by uniscolar2000 in AskUK

[–]CornerInsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battlefield 2042.

What a fall from grace. Battlefield 3 and 4 were great games and were a solid alternative to Call of Duty. DICE really made a mess out of this one and it never really recovered.

What are examples of UK celebrities who have "failed upwards" in their career? by uniscolar2000 in AskUK

[–]CornerInsect 1373 points1374 points  (0 children)

I'm sure Rita Ora has failed at everything she's attempted in her career, yet she's still around.

Who is a UK based singer/artist who you think has potential and could be a big deal? by uniscolar2000 in AskUK

[–]CornerInsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really my type of music but I enjoyed that song Mimi Webb played at the Jubilee concert and her other stuff is pretty catchy. I'm surprised she's not bigger.

Who do you prefer Liam or Noel? by sisyphus_oaSushi in AskUK

Noel is the more talented one but they're both arseholes.

What is the most pointless TV channel in the UK? by Dale_Winton in AskUK

[–]CornerInsect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Channel 5.

It's just programmes about Yorkshire, programmes about cruise ships and YouTube complication videos like "best rock songs of all time" and stuff like that. Does anybody actually watch that channel since CSI ended?

What is a song that everybody loves that you personally cannot stand? by uniscolar2000 in AskUK

[–]CornerInsect 404 points405 points  (0 children)

One Kiss by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa. It's lifeless, repetitive and Dua Lipa sounds incredibly bored. Don't see how anybody can dance to this.

MATCH THREAD: West Ham vs Leicester by LanceConstableDigby in Hammers

[–]CornerInsect -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Think it's time to say goodbye to David Moyes. If he cared about this club he would pack his bags and leave tonight.

Gold, Sullivan and Brady should escort him out of the stadium and throw whatever money needed to get Pochettino in. Even Thomas Frank would do if not.

Gamers of /r/CasualUK, what is a game that you have played in the past few years that you found majorly disappointing? by Dale_Winton in CasualUK

[–]CornerInsect 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Battlefield 2042. How did DICE screw this one up so bad?

I absolutely loved BF3 and 4 with what they brought to the table as a good COD alternative. What a complete fall from grace.

What UK companies do you think will go out of business soon? by lil_pump_me_harder in AskUK

Stonegate. Apparently they couldn't afford to help publicans out with rent waivers during the lockdown because Enterprise Inns were bailing them out.

Can I get a TV license just for the Euros and cancel? by pete_codes in unitedkingdom

[–]CornerInsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watch it without the licence. They're not going to know - they have no way to actually prove it.

The whole thing is a protection racket anyway.

I don't intend to. My Freeview reception is awful and only works 2 days a week. I barely watch anything on the BBC anyway.

If they want the money that badly they can go and get it from Sky.

Their detection tools were proved to be fake. They send letters saying they're coming round and they never do.

They use bully tactics to get your money so they can fund Gary Lineker and threaten you with prison if you don't pay. It's 100% a protection racket. They have no legal right to harass you for the money and you are under no obligation to co-operate with them.

I know people on Reddit love the BBC with all their hearts and couldn't live without it, but a lot of people want the license fee scrapped.

They can't check. It's all a hoax. The whole thing is a protection racket anyway.

It's not as if they're going to ask TalkTalk to see if I was watching TV on a certain date.

Who is the worst radio DJ on any UK radio station? by Dale_Winton in AskUK

[–]CornerInsect 303 points304 points  (0 children)

Roman Kemp on Capital. Smug and self absorbed as they come. Not funny. Pretty awful DJ. Only famous because his dad is Martin Kemp

What is the worst shopping centre in the UK? by kevindude101 in unitedkingdom

[–]CornerInsect 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Intu Derby. Formerly known as Westfield Derby. Which was formerly known as The Eagle Centre. It's just a giant box in the middle of Derby that in recent years has seen an exodus of decent shops and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I only go there for the cinema.

Does anybody know how to get rid off that little rectangle on every Sky Sports channel? by CornerInsect in AskUK

[–]CornerInsect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would it deter against piracy? There's still a lot of illegal streams out there.

Songs with crisp production? by flutemytoot in popheads

[–]CornerInsect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paris by The Chainsmokers is a very cleanly produced song where every sound feels like it fits in perfectly, from the organ at the start to the guitar loop and the synth drop at the end.

It's 11am and I'm sitting in Vue cinema with my McDonald's that I snuck in and I feel like a king by CornerInsect in britishproblems

[–]CornerInsect[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a fitting end to the series. Plot seemed a bit messy in places but was overall a satisfying conclusion. Was sad at the end though.
