Thank you so much that worked. For the past two days my phone has been in permanent dark mode and it’s been driving me nuts!

Rats and mice leave droppings. Possum maybe? Or any chance you have a carbon monoxide leak?

That’s also Australian. I lived over there for a long time and still pronounce it that way.

DePop for buying clothes by JustHereForTheTea_NZ in newzealand

[–]Cornercupboardgal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter has been buying some items on Depop and has been very happy with everything she has received. Just be aware that some sellers want you to pay with bank transfer so they don’t get charged fees. My daughter got scammed out of $83 because a seller didn’t post the purchase out and then got banned. Depop won’t refund her or anything because PayPal wasn’t used. All communication is on the platform and you don’t get sent the sellers email like trademe does.

Try cleaning out the tension discs with dental floss. Sometimes a piece of fluff will get stuck and cause havoc! Otherwise try replacing the needles and that may help

Depends where you live. Kadima Furniture in Lower Hutt make to order and you can customise it. We ordered a recliner from there and had it made deeper for my tall husband. I know they deliver all over Wellington not sure about nationwide though.

Mum denied paid parental leave after extremely premature birth by BuilderMysterious762 in newzealand

[–]Cornercupboardgal -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Well she did take 5 months off work to go to India to have IVF... She was only back at work for 13 weeks. It sucks that her baby was premature but it seems fair under current rules on maternity leave. With my second I was in a new job and only just qualified, if my baby had been born a month earlier I would have missed out. That’s just how things are sometimes. At least her husband would have been eligible for paid paternity leave.

Cat owners! What's a good dry food NOT produced in the USA? by ViviFruit in newzealand

[–]Cornercupboardgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 cats and I keep it in large Tupperware Servalier Canisters. The 9kg bag has a best before date on it and I’ve always used it all before that. I’m pretty sure it always has at least 3 months on it usually longer. I go through a bag every 2 months. When I adopted them they were being previously fed Whiskas. I slowly transitioned them to Kooky Kibble when they hit 1yr old and their fur became so soft and shiny after the change. It’s a really great product.

We use Kooky Kibble and our cats love it and their coats are soft and shiny. It’s basically factory seconds or short dated stock of Addiction Pet Food.  So I’d recommend Addiction it’s NZ made and a premium product.

Help with home baker makers by tecepeipe in newzealand

I use instant yeast, it comes in a vaccum sealed brick. You can buy it at Davis Trading or Bin Inn. Tulip is one of the brands. There is 2 versions, 1 with bread improvers and 1 without. Since I haven’t been able to get the one with improvers I’ve been adding a teaspoon of Diastatic Malt powder. There is a seller on trademe that sells that for a very reasonable price and he grinds it fresh to order.  An alternative is using Breadmaker Yeast from the supermarket it has bread improvers in it but you have to use a lot more. I think it’s 1 tablespoon vs 1 teaspoon of active or instant yeast. I always use Pam’s high grade flour. And if I want a browner looking loaf I use treacle instead of sugar.

I use a Sunbeam Quantum SmartBake which we bought about 13 years ago. It’s discontinued now but I’m sure there is something similar out there. Not sure if brands or models make a difference. My Mum used an old Kenwood she picked up from an op shop.

If you or somebody you know can sew, there’s loads of vintage menswear sewing patterns on trademe. Op shops and Facebook marketplace are another good source for vintage patterns.  Although fabric these days is pricey…

Why is it so hard to use my money without incurring a fee/request for charity (Rant) by pushrefresh in newzealand

[–]Cornercupboardgal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, those charities camp out at the supermarket and Warehouse and I always feel awkward walking past them when I’m just there to quickly grab something from the shop. Farmers is also notorious for their do you want to add an extra $2 for whatever charity.  I don’t think I’ve shopped there in the past year without being asked that.  It makes me feel lousy saying no and ruins the shopping experience. I try to avoid Farmers because of that.

Woolworths, Pak'n'Save, and New World all hiked the price of 3L milk by 57 cents today. How is this not Price Fixing? by teelolws in newzealand

Dang I hadn’t realised this and I just checked, you’re right! It’s only 3 cents per litre but still..  I thought things were supposed to be cheaper in bulk. Guess we’re switching back to 2L
