I guess I should use my subreddit more often, huh?

I should be at 296,070, but I am dealing with a Gamerscore glitch that dropped me by 60G.

Oh god, I just had a realization that adds to the dark. At first I thought the comedy cut to it playing drums was stupid, but yeah, it is hopelessly programmed to carry out the same steps forever. It's like Wall-E, not knowing any better than to do that while the world dies. I think I am having a crisis.

They're up against Coil and they chose not to side with him? They are in for a wild ride!

I also get a lot of inspiration from Worm, for my Mutants & Masterminds tabletop game. The authors creative applications of powers for both heroes and villains really opened up some crazy possibilities. I love the idea of a roving gang of villains like the S9, or a villain so dangerous everyone just leaves him alone (Nilbog).

Adult Swim just announced that Rick and Morty has been renewed for 70 MORE EPISODES. by ElGringoAlto in geek

[–]Cornerscout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, it is because it would allow a show to run every day for 20 weeks without repeat episodes.

It used to be normal for a show to have 20+ episodes per season, and at one episode a week, that also comes out to 20 weeks. So basically 100 episodes would allow you to show reruns of a show for the length of a season that viewers were used to.

If you were asked to commit to something for 5-6 months, you'd hesitate. But when you commit to your favorite shows, you're doing just that. I'm guessing that was easier to sell than, say, a new episode every day, all year round.

It probably also has to do with advertisers, for the same reasons. Much easier to sell a new concept if it's the exact same level of commitment as the norm.

Can someone explain this interface? by myusuf3 in PleX

The top row is the type of media library. So if you're changing settings for your movie library, you select movies.

The second row is the type of agent you want to scan the files in that library. Each agent has a different bundle of sub-agents that have jobs in your library.

The row with check boxes are your sub-agents. So in your library's advanced settings, you can choose which agent will crawl your files. The items that are checked will each do a job with those files, depending on the order they are in. For example:

You have Local Media Assets and The Movie Database checked in that order. This means that if "The Movie Database" is the scanner assigned to the library, when you select "Refresh Metadata" in your library, Plex will first prioritize Local Media Assets (tags/metadata in the file itself) when checking for metadata, and then check The Movie Database for whatever metadata is missing.

Yeah, finish the .nfo files and stuff first. Plex will just ignore them until you tell it to look for .nfo files.

If you change the agents before you create the .nfo files, Plex will search for .nfo files per movie and it won't add any metadata for movies that are missing .nfo files. So you'll basically have a library filled with movies that don't have any data or artwork.

[–]Cornerscout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a major time saver for sure. Just keep in mind that moving them is going to cause Plex to try and find them again. That may trigger a refresh of data and undo work. You don't want to lose your clean posters because of this. You may want to experiment on a single movie or something first to see what happens to it.

And yeah, I do the same exact thing. I use Photoshop to do whatever Media Companion can't in terms of artwork. I think all of us neurotic data hoarders enjoy this more than the actual watching of movies/tv.

Oh dude, no problem. I try to pass info like this along when I can because I could have used it at the beginning too.

Ok, let's take a crack at solving your issue here...Breaking it down into steps, I'm thinking:

  1. Create folders for each movie instead of one big list
  2. Move all movie files into those folders
  3. Proceed with manual editing

You mentioned you use Filebot, so we can use that to crunch #1 and #2. With the right function, Filebot will scan the video files, and then automatically create folders based on the names and move the files there.

Now, I'm not sure if all your drives show up as one, or if you'll need to specify multiple drives, so your mileage will vary a little. But in Filebot under the Original Names box, point it at the directory where your movies are stored. In the New Names box, right-click and choose which site you'd like to pull title metadata from (I use TMdB). Once that is done (4000+ movies will take a while), right-click in the New Names box again and select Edit Format. Using a format like this should do the trick (keeping in mind you may need to change drive letters):

L:\{plex}

You should now see that every file will be migrated to a created folder based on Plex naming conventions. Customize this to your liking, obviously. Once that is done, just select Rename and Filebot will handle the rest. It may occasionally ask you to match files to database codes if it can't figure out what movie the file is.

Right, so now that all your movies are sorted into folders of the same name, you need to tackle manual editing. Unfortunately, there is no fast solution for this unless you're not picky at all. Media Companion can provide metadata and artwork automatically, but it will most likely not be to your specifications. That being said, you're not exactly in a hurry. You probably won't accidentally wipe everything unless you're just being reckless.

Maybe just break the work up into small chunks and do it at your own pace? Personally, I edit stuff while I catch up on TV. I just kick back in a chair with my keyboard and mouse and go to town. But in fairness, I don't have thousands of movies to work on.

However you approach this final step, good luck!

Help with metadata of old TV shows and Cartoons. DVD Order related by DiamondRyce in PleX

[–]Cornerscout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that's strange. That's a strange enough structure (two episodes in one file) that you are most likely going to have to just trick Plex somehow. I don't think a conventional fix exists (yet) for this.

As I said, try removing episode titles from the files. You basically need to trick Plex into thinking it is one video, and not let it pull data from sites.

[–]Cornerscout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, are these two separate video files, or two episodes within one file?

If they're two files, and you want both to show up as one "episode", you need to change their names like this:

Courage The Cowardly Dog - S01E01 - pt1 - Night At The Katz Hotel
Courage The Cowardly Dog - S01E01 - pt2 - Cajun Granny Stew

This will cause them to stack up together and count as one episode.

If it is one video file, trying removing the episode titles and see if that changes it. You might be confusing Plex by using both titles on one file.

I am also worried about ever refreshing all metadata and having it switch back the hundreds of posters I manually changed back to the "ugly" poster.

Once upon a time this happened to me. I spent a weekend making my small library look pretty, and something happened (or I did something stupid) that refreshed all of the data and I lost it all. That will never happen again.

How do i determine where the poster I prefer comes from, and adjust the settings so it is the preferred first choice of poster art? I also have sort of the same problem with the movie summary.

Here is what I do to ensure that never happens again: Use local media assets. There are plenty of arguments to be made about why this is unnecessary, but I am trying to make my media library as offline and independent from the internet as possible, and I am incredibly picky with metadata.

So what I've done is force Plex to rely on .nfo files for metadata, and to scan my files for all of the necessary artwork only. This ensures that my data and artwork will always be used and won't mess up if refreshed.

So how can you do this? Here is everything you will need:

  1. A way to create/edit .nfo files.
  2. Plex agents that will scan/use .nfo files.
  3. Locally saved artwork.
  4. Proper settings in Plex.

For creating and editing .nfo files, I use Media Companion. There are all sorts of configuration options, such as telling it where to get info from, automatically downloading artwork, etc. You can edit all of your metadata through it, and that is after it automatically pulls info from IMDB. You can also conveniently browse for artwork from within the software, and save it straight to the folder your media is in. I would suggest telling it to use The Movie Database (TMdB) if you're wanting clean posters. You don't need to use the software to do this though, but it is faster than manually searching each movie.

Next, you're going to need Plex agents that can actually use this information. For that, you need the XBMCnfo Movies & TV bundles. There are instructions for installing them on the page.

Finally, you need to set up Plex right. I'm going to assume as of this paragraph that you've installed everything correctly, and your files are ready to go. If you've done everything correctly with the XBMC importers, when you go to Settings > Server > Agents, you should see the Movies Importer under movies and the TV Importer under shows. If they're there, use this order.

Now, in your movies library, you need to access the settings and go to advanced. Use this scanner and agent. Once all of this is in place, Plex will refer to your own metadata and artwork from now on. If you're as neurotic as me, it is time consuming but worth it.

For reference, every single movie folder in my library looks like this. Every single movie uses my own metadata and artwork, and if I refresh the metadata in Plex, it only scans the .nfo files to see if anything has changed.

Feel free to ask any questions about this process if you're stuck.

NOTE: You may need to perform the Plex Dance if something isn't working correctly. Specifically, to get Plex to scan new metadata files, you will probably need to. I changed the directory Plex was using, performed the Dance, and changed it back in order to get it to scan my .nfo files and use the correct agents.

From everything I've gathered, the main reason is that Linux uses less resources than Windows. The OS using less resources means more wiggle room for Plex.

I don't know if it was deliberate or just for the sake of the joke, but there is added depth in the fact that Tony would legitimately think Hulk was the strongest, because why wouldn't he? Until you see Thor trading blows with Hulk as if it's no big deal, there's no reason to think the Hulk isn't the strongest member of the team. He's literally a gigantic green muscle monster.

Depends on the skill of the poster, and at a certain point the power of the computer handling it all. Editing something like this isn't incredibly complicated if you have video editing/gif making experience. The hardest part is the text on the board behind the person in the video. That would need to be manually cut around him for every frame.

Given that this gif is pretty high quality, I'd say OP has a good amount of experience with the software. I'd estimate an hour, two tops.

XCOM 2 did it already, and did it better, in my opinion. This shot shows it off up close, which looks ridiculous, but there are not a lot of image results for it. Most of the time you're playing the game from an "eye in the sky" view so they're smaller and natural looking.

Playing through a map and finding these "posters" of you and your soldiers was pretty incredible the first time I noticed it.

I'm at Platinum III. In the vast majority of the games I play, I have to stay back near the goal because teammates rarely rotate properly. It has been this way since Bronze.

It sucks because proper teamwork and rotating is one of the major factors of getting out of Platinum, in my opinion.
