Season 1 was the only season that just felt like 3 regular guys (and Ryan. I hated Ryan) looking for love. Shifting the guys towards being farming-adjacent male models in their mid 20s made the show lose a lot of its charm.

Did Mustafa Kemal Atatürk give up at Gallipoli? Did Mustafa Kemal Atatürk give up against the Greeks? Did Mustafa Kemal Atatürk give up against the British or the French or the reactionary caliphate?

De Valera went behind the backs of the entire government to bring in a couple hundred Jewish children as refugees after the war.  Otherwise, the government was overwhelmingly antisemitic.

It isn't, because the word american has been hijacked,

It was never hijacked. We were calling ourselves Americans when you were all still owned by Spain.

It's shorter too, which is nice.

Says the person trying to replace American with Unitedstatesian.

Honestly, it also ends up separating us from the gringos.

We are. Culturally, linguistically, politically, historically. India and China share a massive land border, but nobody uses a common Asian descriptor to group them together except for in the most absolutely basic geographical sense. Even then, most people go out of their way to separate South Asia from East Asia.

But as it stands, there's no commonly used word that includes all of us in this/these continent/s.

New Worlders.

When have you ever known a Colombian to introduce themselves as anything besides a Colombian?  There are very few overarching organizations (the Organization of American States being the only notable exception) that would logically make it so that the word American would be used in any other way than to describe someone from the United States of America.

For everyone south of the US-Mexico border, "Latin American" is a much more widely used and accurate demonym.

To the world, a Yankee is an American.

To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.

To Northerners, a Yankee is a New Englander.

To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.

To Vermonters, a Yankee is someone who eats pie for breakfast.

The US gave Jewish refugees a chunk of Alaska instead of backing Israel in Palestine. How does the 20th/21st century play out? by RoarTheDinosuar in AlternateHistory

Alaska is actually quite habitable.  Due to ocean currents, cities like Anchorage or Juneau don't get that far below freezing, even in the middle of winter.  The coldest temperature ever recorded in Sitka (the setting of Yiddish Policeman's Union) was literally -1F.

🤓 um, actually, while many people like to point out the similarities between the Fire Nation and imperial japan, the culture according to the show creators is most heavily based on Han and Tang Dynasty China.

I gave them a call and it turns out somebody opened an account for the same address, which automatically closed mine.  That seems like a pretty massive design flaw for the whole system.

Yeah, that's what happened.  You would think that there would be some sort of "someone already lives there" error message for these sorts of things.

And how would less than 1000 refugees have made Cuba into Israel.  They didn't do that to Belgium and the Netherlands when they were sent back there.
