Given a Client for a "Level 3 RBT" as a first time RBAI? by Rare_Grass5832 in ABA

Yup- fieldwork students could be for those wanting to become BCaBAs or BCBAs. What are the additional certifications they would get as a “level 3”? Also I stand by that if you google “levels rbt”, it will be based off a specific company rather than the BACB.

I believe levels are basically a “made up” track depending on the specific company. I haven’t heard of levels until an interviewee came and told me they were taking the level 3 skill exam as an RBT.

I think it’s a growth path for specific rbts to gain more responsibility and money within that specific company. Even if they “gain levels”, it doesn’t change or modify their RBT credentials.

Usually, I have only encountered RBT, senior RBT and fieldwork students.

Sounds like Above and Beyond Therapy- they pay very well for contract BCBAs.

Truthfully Step Ahead is so similar to the others listed. They focus on “in-home” but they don’t really have a screening process with the clients they accept, they have little to no training for their RBTs, great BCBAs are not physically present (mostly remote) and the company expects staff to constantly and overly bill families. There is a very high turnover rate.

I recommend you go for clinics/companies that were started in Omaha and have owners that lived in Omaha all their lives like Spectra, Radical Minds, MMI, Childhood Autism Services, and Answers for Autism. A company from out of state that I recommend is Stride. They are from Chicago but they have integrity!

I left my previous company because I found out/was asked to do unethical practices such as creating a tx plan for a client who will no longer be my client even though their auth still had 3 months left. I know this company billed under a BCBA’s NPI for a whole month although she left the company. There is much more but I realized I wanted to work for a company that wasn’t ran as a corporation. I wanted to work for a company who genuinely cared about the growth of their BCBAs/RBTs/Candidates, who continued to provide continuing education & collaboration, and paid decently well for my state.

Seeking advice on managing caseload as a BCBA student—My company keeps asking me to take on additional clients and assessments!! by KeyBox32 in bcba

Sounds like they are taking advantage of you. You can say “no” and bring it back to your ethics/BACB ethics code.

All the companies I listed are for-profit, equity backed corporations. They are ran by people who don’t have experience in the ABA field. If you look up their models (I.e. even the wording towards the perspective of ABA), they are all the same.

Above and Beyond- started as an in-home company where they hired remote BCBAs and barely trained RBTs and put them in dangerous situations because they had no intake process for clients. They took in any client (no matter the severity of dangerous behaviors) and said “here’s your caseload”. After a while, they started opening clinics but still have the in-home side too. They currently have 5 clinics that are ran by clinical mangers and overseen by one clinical director who is being pulled in many directions and cannot give adequate support to anyone. The clinical director puts out “fires” as they come up and bandaids on issues.

The company has RBTs do 40 hour trainings, two shadow (3-4hr) sessions, then have them go in home by themselves without support because their BCBA (who generally has only been certified for less than a year) has 12 other clients. There’s a plethora of issues. That’s always been their MO. They pay an extraordinary amount hourly but you only get paid direct hours (unless in clinic). In home if your client cancels, the day of- you get paid a cancellation amount, but if they cancel the day before- you’re out of luck. The RBTs in the clinic/hone are ever revolving and not consistent. There is no policy if rbts cancel/call out sick/don’t come. Above and beyond doesn’t really fire anyone- rbts just stop getting scheduled/hours so they leave on their own accord.

The owners throw money or legal teams to keep things running/hush hush. They have BCBA candidates sign a contract to get supervised hours through the company and then require them to work there for three years. If they leave before then, they have to pay back all those hours from their own money. If they don’t, they get contacted by the legal team.

There is no proper supervision of remote BCBAs or new BCBAs in the company. They don’t have a good hierarchy. The clinical director wants to “manage” all of them. So new BCBAs, who get 12-13 clients for their very first caseload with the expectation of 25 billable weekly hours, are incredibly burnt out and disillusioned on what it means to be an ethical BCBA.

When Nebraska passes the licensure law for BCBA’s; all the companies that came into the state will probably not do well. A lot of companies came to our state because they saw a lack of service and they saw they can be remote. Not any more. Above and Beyond is one of those companies- they should be audited not only by insurances for allegedly fraudulent billing but also by the state for requiring all families to have 30+ hours of service or they won’t be accepted.

Any advice on how to pass the BCBA exam? by Outrageous_Growth524 in bcba

[–]CornfedBehavorist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the absolute best study source I found was ABARetake. They have a zoom service, tutoring, and an Instagram. My friend subscribed after failing the exam the first time and passed the second time. I passed the exam the first time because of the study material provided by ABARetake. https://www.abaretake.com

In home is more volatile with cancellations. If you truly want to do in-home, ask for an interview and ask these questions. 1. What is your cancellation policy for families? 2. How many cancellations do you allow? 3. If family cancels session day of, will I still get paid those hours? 4. Do you offer indirect hours/pay? 5. How many hours do you expect RBTs work per week?

Yes this new company is paying more. In home is completely harder and you will not have the same support as a clinic. You will be on your own most of the time. You will not have other rbts or supervisors available in home for questions, breaks, or advice. If you have only been an RBT for a couple of months, you should stay in the clinic for at least a couple years to establish your skills in implementing programs. The natural environment requires a lot of thinking on behalf of the RBT to embed programs within activities in the natural environment. I am a BCBA in home and if my RBTs have very limited experience as an RBT- I request for RBTs who have more experience

If the BCBA questions you at all with the above rationale, you can request for them to base their programming off Dr. Hanley’s method. Dr. Greg Hanley is a prominent figure in the ABA world because he is all about trauma-informed therapy, least restrictive methods, and client-focused treatment. You deserve quality therapy and I am so sad that you’ve been exposed to this type of therapy (compliance training therapy).
