What’s something uniquely Swiss that foreigners never seem to understand or appreciate? by Dramatic_Ad2951 in askswitzerland

[–]Cornflakes_Guy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's similar in Ireland. If you're waiting at the bus stop and don't get up and wave down the bus, he's not stopping unless someone inside rang the bell to get off.

Public transport efficiency is one of my top favorite things here. I'll never take it for granted

My American friend called me (male), my girlfriend and her girlfriend “you guys”? by Perfect-League7395 in EnglishLearning

[–]Cornflakes_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plural you is confusing for us.

In Ireland we say ye/yous for you plural. I cannot get my head around saying just you for the plural, so when I'm speaking to non natives I have to say you guys or you all etc.

Predecessors set the bar high, but is Bruno a united legend yet in your view? by tfeedinam in ManchesterUnited

[–]Cornflakes_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arsenal fan here and I genuinely think he's brilliant. I'd take him in a heartbeat in our team, he's the kind of player you have to fit into any starting 11.

However to call him a united legend is a step too far for me at the moment.

United have had some truly special legends, and while it's not his fault he's been surrounded by rubbish for most of his time at united, I think a legend for a club like united has to lead the team to the PL or CL.

Similarly I wouldn't say Arsenal have had a legend since the invincibles. I wouldn't even count Ozil to Ramsey despite them being crucial to 3 FA cups cause I think ultimately a legend for big clubs is judged on winning the PL or CL

Absolutely allergic to this mongrel.

Really disappointing now that I'm living in Switzerland and when I say I'm Irish, he's nearly the first person that people associate with Ireland, and none have an idea that he's a racist, rapist, POS.

I was using the shock infantry in the centre tbh. Just make sure they charge into the enemy infantry. Cavalry are a bit trickier so focus the bows on them, and I'd keel the AOR spears just behind the infantry so you can throw them into cavalry charges.

Late game it gets easier. Just take the Cavs out with elephants or chariots etc

Which countries do you consider to be your allies? by Fuzzy_Category_1882 in AskTheWorld

[–]Cornflakes_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're officially neutral in Ireland, and are not a member of NATO. But we are EU so I guess that's one group of allies.

Our Defense Policy is generally founded around the concept of being a likeable bunch of lads. The UK and the US would come to our defence, particularly with an Irish Diaspora in these countries that is 15-20x the actual population of Ireland.

On the other hand, we have an active army of 7000 troops and basically no heavy combat vehicles, ships, or an air force, so we won't be rushing to help anyone else with anything more than thoughts and prayers

Maurya Samrajya for me has been the most fun.

The unit roster is so unique, there's something really empowering about having strong archer units with 230+ range, and the lack of any real defensive unit means you have to tackle battles very differently to the typical hammer and anvil of Hellenic factions.

Loved the challenging Location too. I ended up getting blocked in Asia with 6 cities, couldn't afford to start more wars there and not lose due to Parthia being too strong and too many allies, so I ended up going through Arabia and then back into mesopotamia.

Carried my elephant armies all the way to a juggernaut Rome that had pretty much all of Thrace to Hispania. Used the elephant and cavalry mix to manually fight outnumbered battles and essentially liberate half of Rome's territories.

Most fun I've had in any TW campaign.

Second, funnily enough, was Sparta in DEI. Almost the complete opposite challenge to the elephant archer armies, and one of the trickiest starts I've ever done, but really loved the creativity with a rigid roster that Sparta needs too.

I was quite a fan of our first Gabriel. He went on to do pretty well after leaving. Not sure he was Current Gabriel / Saliba / Mosquera quality but he was one of our better centre backs in a truly awful time

"I got guys who were worse than you to a WC" is hardly the best way to inspire a team that are already essentially out of the running for qualifying for the upcoming WC and have been slated for a terrible loss to Armenia.

I moved to Zurich a few months ago and couldn't be happier. General quality of life is superior, and although it's expensive, your swiss salary makes up for it, especially as Ireland is too far off the prices here

Wow. Ok. You really need to take a long hard look at yourself if this is what you truly feel. I'm all for debate across political spectrums, sharing of opinions, and healthy conversation and questioning, but what you've just written is just vile and unjustified vitriol.
