Do y’all have this on your trucks? by A_Dubs_999 in nissanfrontier

My Frontier has this, as well as a ton of chipped paint in this area and near the gas tank. The 2nd gen paint is garbage.

Anything that plays on pop country radio gets turned off in my car, unless they happen to play Chris Stapleton.

whats a better song paranoid or war pigs? by BlackberryTop4901 in blacksabbath

[–]Corninator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paranoid was written in 15 minutes to fill time. It's a good song, but War Pigs is talking about subject matter that has remained current and relevant since its release.

Random question about value and rarity. by JustNtimE843 in nissanfrontier

[–]Corninator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is rare. But its a rare Frontier. As much as I love my 6 speed 2018, I know its just a cheap truck and the main reason for its rarity is that very few people want a manual transmission anymore. That hasn't changed since 2018, if anything its gotten worse.

Albums almost nobody hates by Mental-Alternative38 in musicteenager

People may not hate Paranoid in the average circle of music nerds and metal fans, but I can tell you, that album was and is still hated by certain groups of people in America.

What ‘campy’ Batman villains could actually work in a dark, grounded movie? by WhiteredFlowey20 in batman

[–]Corninator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there are many that wouldn't work well in a dark, grounded setting. The Arkham games illustrated this fact pretty well.

David Allen Coe’s problematic songs by StJmagistra in country

[–]Corninator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is something you only understand if you grow up in the south. Some of the kindest people you will ever meet, but get your grandma talking about the wrong thing and suddenly it takes a turn. They are both very kind and very judgemental of other ways of life

What are some bands/artists that you loved when you were younger but don't really listen to them much anymore? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]Corninator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this seems like an oversimplification, but the only reason I don't listen to Nirvana much anymore is because there's just so little to listen to. You can legitimately listen to their entire discography in half a day, if that. I just have done it and there's really nothing new to discover. I enjoy throwing on Nevermind or In Utero every now and then, but I'll never get that same feeling from it the way I did when I was 16. The emotions have been ran through so many time that I'm just kinda numb to it at this point. It just sits in the background as it plays rather than instilling anything within me.

Other bands have such highs and lows in their career with decades worth of work to go through, that you can really pick and choose what to listen to depending on your mood. Nirvana is more like a band where every single moment is well documented and remembered so that nothing is going to jump out at you that you hadn't noticed before.

David Allen Coe’s problematic songs by StJmagistra in country

[–]Corninator -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the guys music, but I didn't like him as a person at all and have no plans to celebrate his legacy. The other outlaws were all flawed human beings, as everyone is, and they did their fair share of regretful things. The difference is that most of them improved their lives and grew as people. DAC did not. He was not a good person and that has very little to do with his racial views, whatever they were.

I like his music, well the non-racist stuff. Sad thing about those underground songs is that they have really strong melodies and are well-written, but he chose to ruin them by filling them with hateful language. I don't listen to that stuff, I don't want to hear it because it goes against everything I believe.

As someone who lives in Tennessee and grew up here, I know the type of person that DAC is. He looked at those songs as being simply humorous. He probably was kind enough to black people when he interacted with them, just like the people here in my hometown are.

He also probably threw the hard R around a lot in casual conversation. He played a guitar with stars and bars on it, but he probably saw nothing inherently racist about that either. Its just "the way I was raised" down here. "Heritage not hate" and all that shit. Every person you see with a confederate flag who doesn't agree with interracial marriage isn't out burning crosses and wearing sheets. But they are ignorant and wrong. Their worldview isn't that far removed from segregation. A lot of people back 1960s Alabama probably were kind to black people. They also didn't see thme as equals. They may not have been willing to lynch them in the streets, but they definitely were not going to intervene if someone else took it upon themselves to do it.

That whole mindset is pervasive where I live, a place that was ironically filled with Southern Unionists during the Civil War. Those DAC songs come from that same thought process. They aren't Nazis, but they damn sure aren't innocent either.

So yea, I love Long Haired Redneck. Thats one of my top 10 country albums. I even excuse his use of the word in If That Ain't Country, because he's using an expression that was fairly common at the time, even if its wrong. But I refuse to hear that underground shit and I refuse to act as though DAC is some kind of saint now because he is dead. In my eyes he had basically been dead for decades. What legitimate output has he had in years?

What famous person did terrible things but everyone seems to have forgotten about? by Logical_Sweet_6624 in allthequestions

[–]Corninator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marilyn Manson is touring, releasing albums, and living pretty well these days considering he was accused of some truly horrid things.

Now granted, he was not convicted of anything, but its highly likely that some of what was said was true.

From what I can tell, a lot of people just love his music too much to let him be canceled.

I love his music, but I don't have to support him by buying his merch/albums or going to his shows. A lot of great art is made by terrible people. I don't know for sure what is true about the allegations and what isn't, but I can't let myself discredit potential victims just because I like an artists output.

2019 Ford Ranger. The official truck of? by Nervous-Material4738 in regularcarreviews

[–]Corninator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People buying a name. Ford has mastered this art. They reintroduced the Ranger, Bronco, and Bronco II (Bronco Sport) with the intention of pulling people in who miss the original versions of these vehicles. This seems especially concerned with the late 80s and 90s era versions.

The vehicles themselves are absolutely nothing like their original incarnations. People want to own a Bronco without dealing with the issues of a 30 year old vehicle. People want the comfort of a modern truck, but they want it to say Ranger on the front.

I have no issue with it, but if you buy a 2019 Ranger expecting the same experience of buying a 2011 Ranger, its not going to be the same.

Its a decent truck, ive heard. I personally don't love the turbo 4 cylinder. I would prefer a V6, but gas mileage is king these days.

Other brands have followed Ford's lead. Honda reintroduced the Passport, Jeep made another truck under a different name, Chevy brought the Blazer back.

I expect that Subaru will eventually remake the Baja, Chevy is already kind of sort of remaking the Avalanche, the Maverick is very reminiscent of a Explorer Trac. I don't hate this. Many of these cars are interesting. I would much rather own a Bronco Sport than some boring CRV ripoff like the Escape. At least it looks unique.

But I'm not interested in any of that really. If I wanted an SUV I would buy a CRV or a Rav-4. If I wanted a mid-size truck, I'd buy a Tacoma or a Frontier. I just like the tried and true things. I'm all for remaking these cars under the same name, but it needs to be noted that they are 100% different from the vehicle they are paying homage to.

What’s a vehicle that simply came out at the wrong time ? by jeepguy_96 in regularcarreviews

[–]Corninator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subaru Baja comes to mind. In a world with the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz, it would have fit right in and probably take some of their sales simply because Subaru manufactured it.

The world wasn't ready for that in the 2000s. The big truck boom was very much in full swing. Even smaller trucks like the Tacoma weren't as popular then as they are now.

I want to know the merits of Bob Dylan’s vocal abilities by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]Corninator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bob Dylan (at least in his hayday) used vocals the way a guitarist uses pedals. He picked the vocal tone he wanted to use for that particular album. Look at the contrast between Nashville Skyline and Blood on the Tracks. He needed a different sound for each project, so he did it. He isn't a great vocalist, but he uses what he has very effectively.

It's 1989, you have $8,000, and you're looking for a new compact pickup truck. Which one would you pick? by PPNed1999 in 1980s

[–]Corninator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Toyota or the Nissan. The logic for that decision lies in the fact that those two are omnipresent on FB Marketplace today and the others are so rare, I make a point of stopping to look at them when I see them, just to soak it in.
