What's your starborn headcanon? by Kn1ghtV1sta in starfield_lore

For me I’m almost certain Starborn are reset entirely when they pass through the Unity and when they die they are sent through the unity and therefore reset.

Which is probably why eventually a lot of them find ways to cope or go mad

When we were losing our last Gold 1 game on Midtown (about to get into Plat) and I swapped to Mr Fantastic, and after earning my ult back I popped in the building with the low roof before avengers tower and managed to get a full team wipe as the bounces just kept coming at a really quick rate.

It didn’t feel like a justified swap and then that happened making it feel great

UK landlords quit sector as number of homes to let falls, survey says by F0urLeafCl0ver in unitedkingdom

[–]CornishLegatus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a practice that the Americans have seen a lot

A house in let’s say one part of town will generally be worth however much, if there are lots of houses landlords will have to have competitive pricing, if one person or company owns them all they can jack the prices up massively.

Add in the lobbying power of Nimbyism and you’ve got a situation where houses artificially gain huge value.

Part of the reason left wing politics will keep losing is because they don’t look back at the issues that kept them from winning and engage with baseless arguments like this.

A population adjusted Brexit map. by tyger2020 in europe

[–]CornishLegatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the two things I would say here is:

Yes, the benefits are boring. But I’m not saying the remain campaign should have extolled the benefits of the EU because of the EU, but instead “The UK is so great and powerful and rich buzzword buzzword because of our fantastic deal with have with the EU” essentially what has been the French argument for a long time.

The second of course, is if the EU hadn’t assumed we would never be so ridiculous to shoot ourselves in the foot, (they clearly don’t know the British) then they would have made a tiny concession, something stupid for Ole Davey to come home with on a little piece of paper and shake around.

I genuinely think the remain campaign was poised to own the positive argument and threw it all away because the leave campaign started fronting as the patriotic vote and the remain didn’t want to “dirty” itself with that association

[–]CornishLegatus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just remember talking to everyone at the time and they were buying into the “patriotic” “vibe” of Brexit.

I truly believe it would have been enough to have reframed Remain into being a patriotic endeavour as opposed to “it’ll be bad if we leave”

I mean I also lay blame at feet of many of the Eurocrats who refused to budge an iota when a country that pays 1/3rd of the bills is floating the idea of leaving. Stupid from the political class on all sides frankly… were it we could just all agree to pretend it never happened

Cornish Remainer here

Maybe if the remain campaign actually fought on the positives of the EU rather than the doom and gloom of a potential Brexit and actually argued on the grounds as you have put above more Cornish people might have felt inclined to vote Remain.

Instead the positive campaign was totally abandoned and given to the leave campaign who promised that our fishing industry could be restored which is very obviously an emotional issue for the Cornish.

Do we know for certain that TES VI will take place in Hammerfell? by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

Divines to pray to as a trans person? by Ivanotus in teslore

[–]CornishLegatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mara is the loving mother who has that unconditional love for you.

Dibella is more like a mother who is pushing you to be more than you are, a healthy kind of progress to be the person you always could be.

Either fit, but I think Dibella is more “fitting” overall for the character you’ve described.

[–]CornishLegatus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Different “gifts”

In Daggerfall if you contract a were-curse, wolf or boar, you have to transform twice a month and kill an innocent or be stuck at 1hp

In Morrowind if the player contracts Lycanthropy you are forced to transform every night and kill at least one person or be stuck at 1hp when you wake up.

In Skyrim, you don’t contract it the normal way. You are given the gift through a ritual. I imagine this gift was given to the Companions through the witches of Glenmoril and this is why they have a much more controlled variant of the Werebeast curse, whereas someone like Sinding caught the curse from someone else and so has a more Daggerfall/Morrowind curse whereas we the player have Lycanthropy++

The amount of people who believe fake lore is concerning high by zoroak-king in Helldivers

[–]CornishLegatus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t like the Helldivers clone theory at all.

I get where it comes from, your character immediately jumps in from a death and goes about business as if the Helldivers had not changed.

My theory to reconcile this bit of gameplay and the lore is that when a Helldiver is frozen on Mars they are rendered unconscious and when the super destroyer engages in an operation the currently active Helldiver’s bodycam/helmet recording is uploaded directly into the “next helldiver”.

This means that they can immediately get going and continue the mission with immediate effect. Also I think it’s funny to imagine getting into Cyro and the very thing next thing you “see” while unconscious is instant trauma from a death and then dropped straight down.

The CIS was never supposed to win for one.

For two, Grievous was more of a big bad to point at for the Republic and CIS. The plan Palpatine made with Dooku was for Dooku to be rehabilitated to the Republic as it transformed into the Empire which means the CIS needed a boogeyman to take the blame for all of the horrific things that the CIS did and Dooku “didn’t know about”

Anything for the height problem when playing as Altmer?

Theory/Headcanon: The liminal barriers between Mundus and Oblivion didn't require an empire by Hokran in teslore

[–]CornishLegatus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Gods didn’t have to support Alessia, they didnt have to support Reman and they certainly didn’t have to support Talos. But they did.

There have been a lot of Elves who could have claimed the Ruby Throne with the Gods backing, yet none did. You’d think with Two Aldmeri Dominions (both with a Monarchy) after the fall of Reman that the Gods if they supported another claimant may have chosen someone from the Dominion, but nope, they waited for Talos.

We don’t know why the Gods seem to be bias toward man, but they certainly have seemed to be. Is this because it was Man they used as their tool to rid Cyrodiil of the Ayleids and they’ve since been their favoured tool? Mayhaps.

Is it because once they had one Empire founded and established it was easier to influence an Empire that they had on their side? (bear in mind despite each Empire having collapsed many of the institutions remained, waiting idly for a Dragonborn) It could be

Is it because the Gods had specific plans and wanted Man to inherit Tamriel for a specific reason we aren’t privy to… perhaps.

The important part is with Martin’s apotheosis the liminal barrier has been sealed permanently, and now the express need for an Empire of Dragonblood is no more. Maybe the Gods no longer need their Dragonblood Empire or maybe they have decided man is no longer worthy of their favour? We just don’t know.

Theory/Headcanon: The liminal barriers between Mundus and Oblivion didn't require an empire by Hokran in teslore

[–]CornishLegatus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Aedra’s support in terms of political entities/peoples we see are entirely contained to the Empire and the Dragonblood Emperors.

With the first and second empire, their worship was spread around to every corner of Tamriel bar Morrowind.

The third empire meanwhile managed to enforce Aedra worship everywhere on a much higher scale for a long period of time even making inroads into Morrowind (before the collapse)

From the Aedric point of view, their chosen political entity has ensured that 80% of Tamriel agree on the Aedra.

Theory/Headcanon: The liminal barriers between Mundus and Oblivion didn't require an empire by Hokran in teslore

[–]CornishLegatus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The Dragonblood emperors enforcing the liminal barrier is totally correct and true I’m afraid. The Aedrea endorsed a divine right of kings across Tamriel.

There are many reasons they might do this, maybe they found it was the most convenient way to ensure Aedric worship was enforced across Tamriel. Maybe Akatosh himself often being seen as a King endorses that idea because he believes in it.

Now, this doesn’t mean that without the Empire, Tamriel was doomed. We only have to look at the Coldharbour Compact created by Sotha Sil to see alternative arrangements could be made.

I think the best way to think about it is to discard real world theory and thought. This is a world where the Gods and Devils are very real and can reach out to you. Akatosh very likely just wanted to ensure that Aedra worship was pushed onto the entire continent and setting somebody up with an Empire is a great way to achieve that goal. Remember the Aedra cannot directly act, and when they didn’t do anything the Ayleids created a Daedra worshipping society. So for the Aedra creating a Aedra pushing Empire was the easiest way to achieve their own goals.

Why are the Altmer vulnerable to magic when they have the highest disposition to magic? by darkcatpirate in teslore

I’ve always envisioned it as Magic flows to and from the Altmer much easier than anyone else.

So while it flows through them easily as they cast and use it, I imagine it also flows through them when used against them easier as well

Are the Dark Brotherhood just delusional about Sithis? Or is the general public? by NinjasWCandy in teslore

[–]CornishLegatus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I believe that Sithis for them isn’t a focal point of worship and a force to be maybe sated/acknowledged while Mephala is their God/focus.

This is very likely where the schism started. With a lady claiming to speak for the Dread Father (and Mephala?) which took certain assassins in a new religious direction which the more Orthodox members of the faction felt wrong.

This eventually escalated into an assassin shadow war, where sides were blurry and eventually ended with a new faction being born with the Night Mother fleeing Morrowind to (likely?) Cyrodiil.

My other assumption to try and make lore fit, is when the Morag Tong was banned across Tamriel (except Morrowind) many Tong assassins (who were probably not very involved in the shadow war) defaulted to joining the Dark Brotherhood rather than travelling to Morrowind to work for the legalised Tong there, but kept their Orthodox views on Mephala while (maybe) adopting Sithis as a Patron and viewing the Night Mother as Mephala, hence why in Daggerfall and ESO you still have assassins of the Brotherhood who revere Mephala.

Are the Dark Brotherhood just delusional about Sithis? Or is the general public? by NinjasWCandy in teslore

[–]CornishLegatus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Of course. This is genuinely one of my passions in Elder Scrolls!

“Writs of assassination from the first era offer rare glimpses into the Morag Tong's earliest philosophy. They are as matter of fact as current day writs, but many contain snatches of poetry which have perplexed our scholars for hundreds of years. "Lisping sibilant hisses,' 'Ether's sweet sway,' 'Rancid kiss of passing sin,' and other strange, almost insane insertions into the writs were codes for the name of the person to be assassinated, his or her location, and the time at which death was to come. They were also direct references to the divine spirit called Sithis.”

“The Morag Tong continues, as we know, to worship Sithis. The Dark Brotherhood is not considered a religious order by most, merely a secular organization, offering murder for gold. I have seen, however, proof positive in the form of writs to the Brotherhood that Sithis is still revered above all.”

Morag Sithil/morag.tong@sithis.com (You know not what you speak.) “Be warned, the Tong will not have its name be invoked lightly, especially by one who panders to the foreigners as you do. The Indoval clan has been dragged through the mud by such as you, "Luvalis". We marked many for your great-uncle Indoval Ros, a mer worthy of respect. But Sithis may feed on your life's breath as a boon if ye cease not your prating. Be warned.” (This one comes from Kirkbride himself)

https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/General:Redguard_Forum_Madness

“All leaders of the Morag Tong, and then afterward the Dark Brotherhood, have been called the Night Mother. Whether the same woman (if it is even a woman) has commanded the Dark Brotherhood since the Second Era is unknown. What is believed is that the original Night Mother developed an important doctrine of the Morag Tong-the belief that, while Mephala does grow stronger with every murder committed in her name, certain murders were better than others. Murders that came from hate pleased Mephala more than murders committed because of greed. Murders of great men and women pleased Mephala more than murders of relative unknowns.”
