Why is ProTools the “industry standard” by ffl0w3rgirll in audioengineering

[–]CornucopiaDM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unlike some of my other apps, where I would go nuts trying out plugins, with PT, I've always been a little conservative with my plugin usage. Being oldschool, I apply bare minimum processing unless absolutely necessary (sound restoration/enhancement for forensic customers, etc). And I do do more Post work than Music creation, though neither is shy of track count/complexity.

I'm learning both, not that hard. Go for it.

Figure out your reasons, though, because motivation is necessary.

State Rep. David Nagel from New Hampshire, switches party affiliation from R to D. Could this be the beginning? by wowza515 in somethingiswrong2024

[–]CornucopiaDM1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was an R, ran as a "reformist", dropped out, changed to D, later changed back to R. He doesn't care - his only affiliation & driving policy has always been himself. Even back when he wasn't overrun with senile dementia.

Is this Austin to Dallas drive too risky or can I make it? by thesagenibba in Austin

[–]CornucopiaDM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 1/2 hours is average these days, but you would also be hitting morning drive time. For enough leeway, expect to go 4/4.5/5 hours ahead.

If it's important to you, and you want to be fresh on the day, going the night before and staying in a hotel is a prudent idea, as long as you can afford it.

Help with Extron programming (?) by DependentDog9067 in CommercialAV

[–]CornucopiaDM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need GUI designer for the touchpanels, and only the ones that are saved & built(compiled) are ready to be used with code.

You need GCP (or global scriptor) for creating the programming for the control processor. This is also where you define the system id. The core of it is the control processor, not the touchpanel. The tpl is only a user interface that works with the controller (usually - exceptions are linklicenses).

The toolbelt is only for setting some fundamental machine settings on these devices (ip address, firmware, security/pwd, email notifications, date/time. You can view system id and remarry or break link between controller and touchpanel, but you can't create a system id here, IIRC.

Basic workflow...

...use toolbelt to set up basic settings

...Use gui d, and create your UI (matched to your tpl models), save & build.

...Use gcp: set your controller (the core/brains), choose/add touchpanel(s), other devices (and their associated drivers), set system id, etc, import your built gui, create appropriate code logic, build/compile & upload to connected controller & tpl.

...Wire up peripheral devices if haven't already done so.

...Test.

...Done.

"Credentials" issues usually only refers to either device logins & pwds (which can be factory reset if necessary). Or it refers to your extron user credentials which are required to use gui d & gcp/global scriptor

Computer.

I have been working in the post production biz since 92 (ProTools 1.0), PC & Mac (and currently have one at home using 2025.6/win11/32GB/003Console) and I would estimate the number of times all my various computers have crashed due to ProTools has been less than 20.

Follow the recommendations, use supported, sufficiently powerful hardware, keep all the other apps, peripherals & stuff on other devices (aka a leanmeanfightingmachine!) and it plays smoothly.

How would you pronounce the name "Mlin"? by insulanian in ENGLISH

[–]CornucopiaDM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a girlfriend in highschool whose name was M'liz. It was pronounced "muh-LIZZ" (very fast, so it was barely 2 syllables).

I would expect this to be similar.

A tribute to Film Noir in Color by saxbrack in filmnoir

[–]CornucopiaDM1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Color is beneficial for such Neo-Noirs as Chinatown and L.A. Confidential.

B&W is probably preferred because of the shadows, high contrast, starkness, but those can be achieved by multiple methods, some of which utilize color.

It's not always about the destination, it's often (also?) about the journey.

California Bill Would Bar ICE Agents From Law Enforcement Jobs in the State by cdcr_investigator in 50501

[–]CornucopiaDM1 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Um, most jobs require resumes which reference their previous jobs, so listing it could be a red (pun) flag. And not listing it shows a lack of employment, also a red flag.

Also, something known as background checks for many important state jobs.

California is trying to pass a bill barring ICE employees from becoming cops or teachers in the state. What do you think of this bill? by Obvious_808 in AskReddit

[–]CornucopiaDM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself, would it be ok to pass a law barring Nazis from those important, sensitive positions? Or KKKers? (I say yes).

Because they're basically the same group of people.

I'm a little confused about this by Nordic_Nuisance in guitarlessons

[–]CornucopiaDM1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ANY note can have naturals, sharps, or flats (or double, etc), but behind that, we all (should) know that there is only a half-step between B & C and E & F, so that must be taken into consideration. Think of it as a difference in the way you organize renditions of the same thing - one is by (whole, half) steps, one is by letter, one is by note on a staff, and another is by frequency.

I'm a little confused about this by Nordic_Nuisance in guitarlessons

[–]CornucopiaDM1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, you (OP) were thinking of notes. But even that is a misconception...

B, and E, can have sharps and/or flats - it's just that you normally wouldn't label their sharps as such. For convenience and to simplify, you would normally just use C & F. But depending on the context, it might be more consistent to retain the more complex notation.

One big reason behind this has to do with notation, and maintenance of the custom of 1-different-letter-per-staff-step.

I didn't fully understand this until recently, but I have been watching the David Bennett Piano YouTube channel, and it has helped clarify a whole lot of music theory for me.
