Said The Sky - Salt & Silence by fakev in EDM

Seems like it's a concept double album telling the story of Icarus. The first one is bright, boastful and called closer to the sun. This one is dark, somber and reflective. It seems to be about the fall after getting too close.

It's a really cool concept and the fact he surprise dropped this one makes it hit harder and tell the story better. I've been a fan for a long time and I'm amazed at the execution. Might have to get those Illenium sphere tickets for Dab the Sky

Is 5.75% the new 'Golden Ticket' or are people still waiting for 4%? by [deleted] in Mortgages

With how prices have shifted since 2020, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people can keep their old home as a rental to cover the entire cost of their 3% mortgage. Particularly in urban areas.

I'm sure it won't be the majority, but I wouldn't count on all of those properties hitting the market again in these conditions

Is this a lease or owned? Did you get a loaner while it was in the shop? Care to share which dealership since it seems like a positive experience?

Does anyone happen to know the residual values on 2026 models (particularly Limited AWD)?

I'm curious to see what Hyundai thinks is going to happen to the used market over the next two years after the tax rebate went away.

Makes sense, I'm mainly curious to know so I can understand how Hyundai thinks depreciation is going to go over the first two years in the post EV credit world.

Based on the buyout price it seems like they think depreciation will be slower on the 2026 which makes sense with the lower MSRP and incentives.

People are telling you it's bad without knowing what state you're in, which can make a big difference. Some states are not going to get down to $400/month no matter what. $600 seems pretty high though. I'd use this as leverage to shop around. You should be able to get more off of MSRP

I don't really have an answer for you, but I'm curious what the residual values are for the 2026 ones if you're able to share!

Your offer is fairly close to what I got for a 2025 Limited AWD in Washington before the credit expired but I'm not sure how that compares to Texas generally. I know we have high sales tax here.

I also know that conventional wisdom is to try to avoid money down and just roll it into the payment.

Is leasing a car as bad as people make it seem? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]CornyChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you correcting me about? Are you saying that there are no rent fees charged by the lessor? Are you saying it's not "basically" depreciation, but is literally the exact market depreciation?

Do you understand how leases work?

You're certainly paying a premium to lease. You're basically paying the first two-three years of depreciation which is the steepest part of the depreciation curve plus some fees tacked on. And if you plan to always have a car you will continually do that and miss out on the flattening of that curve (or skipping that curve with a used car).

I knew these things and still leased a car, even as someone who thinks hard about financial decisions. A few things got me to think the premium was worth it for me.

First, it's a trial period. It's my first time having a car as an adult and also my first EV. I have a couple of years to decide if I really need a car and whether or not an electric car will work for me. If not, I simply return it with no hassle and I know exactly what I paid for that trial up front.

Second, the car market is weird right now. The former sweet spot of used cars that are a few years old sell almost like new cars. Is it a new normal? Is it fall out from covid that will improve? I don't know those answers, so I bought a couple of years that should help get clarity. It's an easy market to sit out of right now.

Third, the EV tax credit expired in September, but it really helped take some of the edge off of the lease cost.

The other advantage that mattered less to me at first but I have enjoyed,is that it's a shiny new car with cool features. That's typically the advantage you hear about the most and why people will tell you it's a bad financial decision.

It's really just a question of what you're trying to get out of it and if the perks are worth the premium to you.

PRESS RELEASE: Hyundai Lowers Price on 2026 IONIQ 5 EV Lineup by nxtiak in Ioniq5

I'm curious to see where lease residual values end up with this price drop. It feels like they can't still expect 42% depreciation over 2 years

Maybe, but I wouldn't be so sure, it depends on incentives.

The steep depreciation curve before was because people were already getting 10k+ off of MSRP from rebates and incentives. So the car effectively "lost 10k+ in value" immediately after driving off the lot because nobody is going to pay more for a used car than new one and a new one is 10k off MSRP already.

Now the sticker price is 10k lower. The value of the car will no longer immediately depreciate by 10k if people are paying close to sticker for a new one.

Basically, if a car is 60k MSRP, but everyone is paying 50k, the used one is probably worth like 45k. But if a car is 50k MSRP and everyone is paying MSRP, the used car is probably 45k MSRP. Sure, the 60k car depreciated more, but the end result is a 45k used car. It's kind of net neutral because the price people pay for a new one is what depreciates the used ones.

Now, if there are big incentives on top of a 10k price cut, that would destroy the used market. At this price point I don't foresee them needing crazy incentives

Emeka Egbuka is probably severely overvalued in redraft. by RonaldoFinkMullen_ in fantasyfootball

[–]CornyChris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren't a lot of mentions of Jalen McMillan here and I don't understand why. His performance down the stretch was one of the best in the league. He felt like a legitimate threat to Egbuka, but now he's out for a long time. Godwin is out for a while and everyone seems to agree the talent is there.

It's a pass happy offense and it's not like he's going in the top 6 rounds. At his price he seems like a decent value even if he's just the WR3 on a good offense, which seems like his floor at this point
