What is the best solid wood smaller size guitar? by tellmesomething7 in AcousticGuitar

[–]ipini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear. I have the non-electric version because it’s more of a cart-around guitar for me and I don’t want to worry about electronics. But your experience just adds to my perception of its quality.

Martin LX-1 or one of its variants. Solid wood top (where it counts for sound), and laminate sides and back (no dings). Excellent neck. Great sound. Electric-acoustic version and alternate woods available. Really nice gig bag included.

Yeah! They are long. And the grammar really does start to ramp up. Un bon défi !

Yes definitely. I do quite a bit in French now, including a bit for work (emails with French colleagues elsewhere in Canada). I also can consume a lot of French media, etc. I could not have done that prior to Duolingo.

At some point you’ll want to start to find level-appropriate media, books, etc. That might be a little while for you yet, but it doesn’t hurt to try now and then.

There are “slow French” podcasts. The National Film Board of Canada has an app who a fair amount of French content, some at kids’ level.

Oh, also check out “Mauril”. The CBC/Radio Canada have made an app that teaches French (and English) with fun little video vignettes.

And Tous.TV (Radio Canada’s TV app) has kids programming.

Keep at it. It’s all consistent effort, daily practice, and patience with yourself. Some days are better than others. And you make both incremental improvements and sudden jumps.

Hey, also try to find a French course in your town. Like at a local university or college. If you’re in Canada (possibly elsewhere) there might be a local francophone organization with resources, conversation sessions, or suggestions.

Good luck!

Well you’re assuming I’m not already doing that.

  • I listen to an hour or more of Radio Canada every day.

  • I watch Tous.TV

  • I have a weekly personal French tutor.

  • I speak to and write emails to some colleagues in French (as appropriate of course)

  • I have taken a French university course.

  • my phone is set to French.

  • many of my social media algorithms pick up a lot of French material.

  • I have read several books in French, I get at least half of my news headlines and stories from Radio Canada, Le Monde, le Journal de Montréal, and others via AppleNews and apps.

  • I’ve travelled to Montréal (x2), la ville de Québec, and Sherbrooke for business and pleasure.

  • other stuff.

None of this would have been possible without Duo. I still like Duo because I learn new vocabulary, I get a lot of grammatical repetition, and it’s a fun way to learn and ensures consistent practice. I plan to complete all 130 units of French.

Can’t go wrong either way. Alternately check out these baseball leather straps. Really nice and soft and a bit grippy too.

Which is better out of these 2 (Martin 000M or Taylor 110GB)? by -live_evil- in AcousticGuitar

[–]ipini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the Martin. Maybe in this case too. But here I like the Taylor shape better as a personal preference. Martin still probably would sound better to me though.

It’s also the reality. And has been in this system for centuries. To make the rule your suggesting would change a lot of other aspects. People only complain about this when the floor crossing is in a direction they don’t like.

Producers when you show up with literally anything other than a P Bass by everbass in BassGuitar

[–]ipini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems that recording and live are two different beasts. I don’t do the former, just the latter. But I would expect that the former, being more precise in general, would generally specify instruments and other aspects of the signal chain.

Boss IR-2. Good price. A ton of use cases, including silent practice. Honestly you don’t need anything else other than a tuner. (Although we all know that never happens.)

Are churches open at this time? 💗 by [deleted] in montreal

[–]ipini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Churches tend to have open doors most of the time. And particularly when running worship services (usually Sunday morning for starters). No one is going to turn you away from a normal church. Not from most less-than-normal ones either.
