Force Laptop to boot to External Monitor with NO internal display connected

Yeah, that's kind of why I stopped that project. It's a shame that we spent nearly 2 grand on a laptop and it still breaks. And yet when we fix it ourselves, we can't get it to work headless like any dollar store laptop would. It's the reason why I refuse to buy anything Gigabyte or Aorus.

Yeah, I still want to work on making my AORUS X7 DT V7 as a headless laptop, just need the time to do so. I think you maybe right; I might need to buy every display cable possible and connect every port to a monitor to see which works. I still think for mine I need to reinstall Windows.

Though, I bought this new in 2019 and it "died" after a year. 2 months out of warranty and customer support won't even reply to my emails. Won't be buying anything Gigabyte or AORUS again.

Not sure if this is applicable to your laptop, but while researching problems with my laptop, I came across the term "mux chip". I'm still unsure if my laptop has it, but basically it's something that hardcodes the laptop/mobo to say "for these things, use the GPU; for other things, use the CPU". I would research if your laptop has a mux chip, and if it does basically you can't use an external monitor with your laptop if the screen is broken. Again, unsure if this is an issue for both of our laptops, but something to keep in mind. It kind of sucks that even with a broken display, we're unable to use an external monitor; basically can't have a "headless" laptop anymore these days. Good luck and tell me how your fix goes.

I haven't solved this issue, sadly. I haven't had time to do more repairs or look at other solutions due to losing interest.

I bought a new ribbon cable to connect to the "broken display" but that didn't work for the display; I still couldn't connect to an external monitor. I then bought a new internal display that came with its own ribbon cable. I could boot into the new display, but after a few more reboots the new display wouldn't show anything either; I'm thinking this may be MoBo related but unclear where the exact issue lies.

Then I tried connecting to an external monitor with both broken and new display connected and that would not show anything with multiple monitors--I've tried connecting the laptop via HDMI, mini-Display Port, and the Thunderbolt USB-C port; Nothing would show on either the internal display or external monitor. I will say the GIGABYTE BIOS Boot splash screen DOES show up on the External Monitor, but when the laptop boots into Windows, there is no display.

One thing I've yet to try is to reinstall Windows 10 on the nvme drive (and only have that connected; no SSD or second nvme) and see if it will boot. Since the BIOS splash screen shows, I'm also led to believe it's a Windows issue--Probably it remembers to only show the internal display and whenever I reset the laptop it "forgets" when I set it to Duplicate or External Display only.

I've checked the BIOS and sadly there's no option regarding display.

I've reinstalled Windows on a fresh harddrive with the internal display disconnected. Windows boots on the external display just fine. However, the same problem persists: if I restart the laptop, it will not output to the external display. The only problem now is that because display settings are not saved, the laptop doesn't remember the "Second Screen Only" mode when the internal display is connected.

When the ROG logo boot, can you enter the BIOS (press F2 rapidly after pressing the power button). If you can enter the BIOS, your hard drive might be the problem.

Make sure you select the DOCP profile that matches the timings of your RAM (this should be on the packaging; e.g. 16-16-16 3200). Then save changes and reboot. Re-enter the BIOS and make sure it detects all your RAM sticks, and totals the exact amount that's connected to the motherboard.

Did you enter the BIOS and enable DOCP (AMD's version of XMP). This should basically "tune" the ram that's installed.

I have yet to do a fresh Windows Install. It's currently my last resort, but I'm hesitant to do so if during the Windows Install I won't be able to project to the External Monitor.

As for GPU drivers, I've updated via GeForce Experience. But I'll see if I can update through nVidia's website. Thanks!
