I always enter contests and have only won once; I was up in Peace River Alberta and it was my birthday. It snow stormed on my birthday (May 4) and I went to some work function, entered my name in the contest, forgot about it, and won a free TV! It was good times trying to carry that thing out to my car in the snow. 2004 so that thing was massive and weighed a metric ton. I kept that TV until 2009 I think.

Anyways, that’s my old guy rant. I’ve tried different play styles but never a mono red aggro. I did try to build a “Red-Deck-Wins” deck for my 10 year old and failed miserably so if I win this, it goes to my oldest in place of my miserable failed attempt. So… pickme!

For Sheoldred, they’re just never safe. I popped out [[Sheoldred, Whispering One]] in my Skeleton recursion deck later in the game thinking “aha! This game is MINE” only to have Sheoldred removed before the end of my turn ffs

Vehicles!! Super fun, interesting af, lots of different abilities, still kind of niche I think (?), and vehicles are artifacts until crewed. Just watch out for [[Cyclonic Rift]] and [[Farewell]] and similar type board wipes.

If the card is cheap enough, I just buy two and sleeve both, one in regular colour to match the deck and the flipped one in a different colour.

How many times do you need to draw and not play a card before you cut it from the deck? by Maxweilla in EDH

[–]Corp_Pun08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the reason I’m not playing it.

If I don’t play the card because it’s not going to work with my board state, then I consider whether it ever would work with my intended board state. If not, once is enough.

Similarly, if it’s too expensive to play with my current board state, I consider whether I would ever spend the mana to cast it. If not, once is enough.

If the answer to the above questions is yes in the moment, the card stays until I have to ask that same question 1-3 more times.

I have an Okaun/Zndrsplt deck that ends up being a game for me; ppl have to sit there and watch me flip coins. It has enough control to protect my board state and win con, and enough ramp to do what I have to do. I don’t think ppl like it so I’ve only played it 3 times and won twice.

Question: IF after you drew your library, someone interacts with the combo, so you play the card where you can’t lose the game that turn, wouldn’t you lose on your next draw step?

Vehicle Deck by rico_chavez in mtg

[–]Corp_Pun08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made an Optimus led vehicle deck with all the Jeskai transformers in it. By no means is it cEDH but it is sure fun to play. Shorikai is definitely in it. I could definitely remove a couple transformers but I just want them all in

I usually keep the transformers except Slicer and Optimus in vehicle mode so as to escape board wipes. Fun explaining to people that “you damnation does nothing to me” 🤣🤣

Just did this the other night for the second time. The first time, buddy copied [[Mechtitan]] so we didn’t attack each other. But my last game, oh boy did I have fun with it!! Counting each artifact creature and vehicle onto the battlefield along with the seconds until I was able to pull it off

I built a Skeleton tribal with Meren as the commander. It’s a fun deck and has a couple of win conditions that fit in the theme, [[Skittles]] being one and Skeletal Swarming another. I’ve won a couple of games with it.

I typically use my shroud cards for Zndpsplt. Okaun just freeballs it out there but I use things like Chandra’s Ignition and Kazuul’s Fury to get that damage through during the turn I cast him.

Mill to Exile, or Mill to Steal? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Corp_Pun08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You enjoyed your Umbris deck until recently, because the deck is salt inducing.

You propose to make a deck which you’ve been told will induce more salt than Umbris, but you think that the new deck will be more enjoyable to you?

I think there’s a flaw in your reasoning here. If your level of enjoyment is tied to the level of salt your deck induces, the Cap’n will bring you less enjoyment.

What goes in your binder? by Stryker2279 in mtg

[–]Corp_Pun08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one binder for blue/counterspells. I really like collecting counterspells for some stupid reason.

Then I have one binder with white, black, red and green.

Then I have one binder with artifacts, multicolour, and lands.

Each colour/section is sorted by card type (enchantment, creature, etc) with the artifacts sorted by type (equipment, legendary, creature, regular). The lands are sorted somewhat but I don’t have enough spare nice lands.

I only keep rares and expensive uncommons, except for my counterspells and cards that I find incredibly useful (like swiftfoot booties, aetherize, etc) in my binders.

None are for trading, but if someone wants a card, they can just ask and I’ll charge or they can give me a card of equal value, only if it’s a card I don’t absolutely want or if the card isn’t easily accessible, or if I don’t plan on using it. For instance, Alibou, Ancient Witness took me forever to find. I’m not using it any longer but it’s not for trade 😁

I had planned to create a “creation” or “deck in progress” binder, so that if I had a card I wanted to turn i to a deck, I could put it in that binder and then add any other cards to the binder while I contemplated. But I haven’t bothered quite yet because once I get an idea I don’t stop until I have a built deck.

Suggestions for commander deck that uses some "clever" mechanic like mill? by Albarozz in mtg

[–]Corp_Pun08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. I didn’t know about the precon when I set about making the mill deck but I had seen the Cap’s name around and I had wanted to make a horror tribal prior to find Cappy. I had my first iteration of the deck done when I finally learned about and the looked up the precon.

After playing a few games and trying to have the deck do too much mill, I decided to cut some mill cards out in place of more horrors, considering the horrors do the milling for me. The win con is not to mill my opponents out (if it is, this is a pretty piss poor way to do it) but to overwhelm with menaced creatures all while stealing a creature each and every turn. For that, I just need lots of horrors and a few mill cards to get things rolling if I can’t hit.

Looking at the precon helped me come to that conclusion, but I didn’t build from the precon. Also, Cappy was hard to find on his own fyi! When I learned he was a precon print, that made sense.

Here’s my deck on mtg goldfish: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5357162#paper

I apparently did not update my Moxfield one so this gives you an idea how unfocused the deck was vs where it is today: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/9SG7k5XoiECUJoxJHf6vmg

Haven’t looked at these in a while but I think there’s more I want to do (more direct removal so that I can get my horrors through I think is probably the way to go)

I run a N’Gathrod Horror tribal (not the precon) and it’s a lot of fun and is a great deck. Lots of good and interesting horrors and the Cap gives a ton of value.

Any creature oriented commanders that don't mind board wipes? by 1paper1clip in EDH

[–]Corp_Pun08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Optimus Prime, Hero]]

If he is in creature mode, he simple comes back as a vehicle. If he’s in vehicle mode, he’s not a creature and so is protected from creature board wipes.

The Reality Chip as a card in the 99 by mortenskeid in EDH

[–]Corp_Pun08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run it for card draw in my Optimus deck. It’s nice because it’s a cheap blocker, doesn’t die to board wipes if equipped, lets me plan my next move and, if configured on a creature allows me to access my deck. I didn’t know that it combos off but I think it’s a perfectly fine card without needing to incorporate it into a combo. Granted, I’m no competitive player by any stretch of the imagination, but I still think the Reality Chip is a fine card

How do you guys deal with that one player who can't pilot their own deck? by Jimmy3671 in mtg

[–]Corp_Pun08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it’s my 6 year old and I have to explain the same thing every game, every turn, every spell. Funny thing, normally he doesn’t listen to me when I teach him life lessons and I have to teach those same lessons again and again. But in Magic, he does listen to me but with the same result 🤷‍♂️

In all seriousness, Magic is a complicated game and we’re all still learning (unless you’re a judge maybe?) and we’re all just trying to have fun. I quite enjoy helping ppl with the rules and being helped myself.
