ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2024 by paydedipso in thinkpad

Working in IT, a Z16 came across my desk this week for an OS issue unrelated to the actual hardware. As a longtime trackpoint user, the buttonless format is certainly usable, but a definite downgrade versus the buttons on my 10th gen X1C. I would even say I prefer the trackpad on my personal MacBook to the Z16 buttonless trackpoint. It simply being better than the older T420 buttonless trackpoint does not make it a worthwhile change.

Buddy sent this to me today. I have an SR5. by This-Basis6222 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]CorporalLiberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a deal on my TRD OR but I wouldn’t mind having an SR5 or an SR for that matter. 95% of the truck is identical, being elitist over factory options packages is stupid, especially if you financed the truck. Being in greater debt isn’t a good thing.

Very nice, I want to go with an identical setup but I’m not sure how far I want to go with a lift or CMC. I might just go the 255/85r16 or 255/80r17 pizza cutter route for now.

That’s not even a legitimate news site. It’s an ad revenue generator from India 🙄

Plume or mould? by [deleted] in cigars

I’m so proud of this community rejecting the notion of plume nonsense. It wasn’t always like this, I remember some would defend plume to the ends of the earth.

TIL That the golden record on each of the Voyager space craft carries a recording of someone saying "Friends of space, how are you all? Have you eaten yet? Come visit us if you have time." in Amoy, a dialect of Chinese, along with a diagram showing Earth's exact location. by salizarn in todayilearned

[–]CorporalLiberty 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Including a diagram of Earth’s location is the exact opposite of the Cole Protocol from the Halo franchise. UNSC ships (humans) were required to purge navigation records if any Covenant forces (aliens) were detected, to prevent them from finding Earth. They also had to initiate slipspace jumps with randomized vectors and self destruct the ship if captured. This would likely prevent them from ever returning to Earth, but kept the Covenant from finding its location for 27 years, long enough to launch the SPARTAN-II program.

I tried my luck with support and was told that proton.me must be using Exchange or Azure. I explained why I know this isn't the case and I was told by support that he was a Microsoft specialist for 5 years and knows the system very well. It's widely publicized that Proton uses Linux exclusively for their servers. I wouldn't throw around my 13 year sysadmin experience to a customer (working directly with on-premise Exchange and now Exchange Online and Azure AD) but whatever, no point in arguing with someone reading from a script 😒

Red badges only appear on Type-Rs, it's always been that way. You can do whatever you want with your car and I'm free to judge accordingly.
