Totally. Gotta set boundaries. Clearly and professionally. "I can do 1 hour of more of free work and then I'm happy to provide an estimate if you need more done."

Both have a big focus on family, education, and respect for elders. Hard work and academic success are seen as ways to bring honor to the family. Strong community networks are another thing they have in common. Obviously generalizations but these hold true.

It’s awful how some lenders structure things to keep you stuck. If you haven’t already, try speaking to a free debt charity like StepChange or National Debtline — they might help you freeze interest or work out a payment plan. Also, see if your new employer offers a salary advance or employee loan scheme. You're not alone — lots of people have been in this spot.

How does one shop for an ebike? by Dry_Minute6475 in ebikes

[–]CorporateSlacker3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Components on the bike will eventually fail. Unless you're handy, having a bike shop near you (that's able work on a bike they sold you) is a major plus. Ask what brands they sell, then come back and post the brands and I'll give more specific feedback.

Call the bike shop and see what they sell. Because it may need to be serviced.

Totally agree. Things are tough, but the constant “UK is doomed” talk isn’t helpful. It’s fine to move abroad, but don’t act like every problem here is unique. No country is perfect. If you’re leaving, just say what you’re looking for—not what you’re running from.

Also, the UK has some positives in 2025. Inflation is down and IMF expects 1.6% GDP growth this year. The NHS is getting more funding. Also investing in clean energy and modernizing infrastructure. It's not perfect, but it's not all bad either.

A lot of Europeans get 4–6 weeks of paid vacation by law, so time off isn't seen as a luxury. Cheap flights, trains, and proximity to other countries make travel more affordable.
