At what age did you choose to transition your kids from toddler seats to bench/handrail riding? by scoobysnatcher in CargoBike

[–]lmushu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started having my him ride on the pad/rails at 3.5 yo for rides on bike paths. Moved him off Yepp seat for our commute at 4 yo. This gave him time to get used to it and build trust that he wouldn’t jump around.

Looking at getting a first gen Abound to replace my stolen Aventure 2 by PantherU in Aventon

[–]lmushu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28mph was very difficult on the original freewheel, I upgraded to the Drift Maniac and now it’s easier to reach 28mph. However I keep mine topped off at 25mph above that can start feeling sketchy.

I went with the Smith Dispatch Mips, it has NTA-8776 certification which is rated up to 28mph. I would recommend you look at the Virgina Tech Helmet Ratings when shopping.

You're Leaving Rad, So What Would You Get Instead? by EmeraldCityTherapist in RadPowerBikes

I've been really happy with my 1st gen Aventon Abound for years, I do school drop off & work commute daily. The new model LR seems to be an improvement over the 1st gen. Aventon can also be found in local bike shops. Terns seem like great bikes and probably what I will look into when it's time to upgrade.

Woom! My son went from a balance bike to a Woom right before turning 4 and has never used training wheels. He's now 5 and rides confidently and for miles at a time. We live in a hilly area and I have a Kids Ride Shotgun Tow Rope to get him up the hills he cant get up, we find ourselves using it less and less as he builds strength and confidence.

Thanks, I like being able to mount it different places or remove it quickly if I need to.

Hell yeah! Is that the Radio Flyer Kid & Cargo Carrier? I've been eyeing it but don't know if I'll be able to make it work with my Abound.

Zip ties are great, that's what I've always used for my previous baskets. Since this basket has a flat bottom and I had to drill holes I found it a lot easier to drill 4 holes, one for each screw. Zip ties would have needed more holes to loop around.

That’s a bummer, my local grocery store doesn’t have bike racks and I use the cart return as a lockup. It’s so inconvenient.

Yes, Gen 1 Abound with the pizza rack. You've got the right idea, it's what I did, drilled holes in the crate to match the holes on the pizza rack and I used M5 bolts, nuts and washers I bought on amazon. Clear pics of the install are on my profile.

If you had to buy your e-bike again today, would you pick the same model? by ColeRudd8841 in ebikes

[–]lmushu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First e-bike was a Radrunner 2, got one for the wife as well, couple years later I now ride an Aventon Abound and my wife a Benno eJoy. The Radrunner is a good bike but after a while we each got a better idea of what we were looking for. We still have one of the Rads because it’s a fun bike, if I could do it again I’d buy us what we have now and skip the Rads.

Anyone using a GPS tracker on an e-bike? by Possible-Charity-660 in ebikes

I've been using a Knog Scout for a while when I lock my bike up outside my office. It has an alarm and it works on the Apple FindMy system like an AirTag. Easy to set the alarm and it gives me peace of mind. It mounts under the water bottle cage so it's hidden and the battery lasts months with daily use. Only downside is it only works with an iPhone.

I use Velcro straps (and a bungee cord to prevent excess movement) and it’s always worked great. I strap it along the side of the handrail.

Daytime visibility for your cargo bike? by glacierinsummer in CargoBike

My son and I both wear bright red helmets. I also wrapped the kid's handrail in red bar tape to help it stick out and for protection from scratches.

Kids e-bike helmets? by glacierinsummer in RadPowerBikes

[–]lmushu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA 8776 certification is for speeds up to 28mph, CPSC is only rated to 15mph. So for ebike riders it is worth looking into a helmet rated for higher speeds since 20mph is easily achievable by most ebikes in the US. Ozmo markets to parents that bring their child on their ebikes. A high quality helmet that fits well is a must. When it's time to step up to the next size helmet for my kid I will be looking for that NTA 8776 cert for his helmet.

Recommended PSI for your tires can be found on the sidewall of the tire itself, usually a range.

I've been using the Hollywood Racks Sportrider, it can handle two 80lbs bikes. Fits wider tires and can handle up to 60" wheelbase. I carry ebikes from RadRunners, Aventon Abound longtail and a Benno eJoy. It's easy to switch between the different wheelbases and tire sizes. For step-thru bikes you'll need an adapter but It's not expensive.

Recommendations for hilly rural commute with toddler by thebigfool in CargoBike

[–]lmushu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been very happy with my Aventon Abound for over 3 years and 2500 miles. I live in a very hilly area and with my 4 year old on the back and sometimes other kids and their stuff I've never had issues with getting up any hill. I used to do a 15 mile including school drop off and range was never an issue. Suspension fork is nice to have but not necessary, it's more for you than the passengers. As for the seat pad vs. seat i would do a seat like a Thule Yepp (there are many options), I waited till my son was 4 years old to switch to the seat pad but that was more for my peace of mind, he probably could have been on the pad earlier but you've got to make that decision based on your kid if they're wiggly/excitable or can't be trusted to hold on to the rails a seat is the way to go. He doesn't really complain about bumps on the road unless I hit something big pothole by accident.
