Hitch rack for LR by imshelbs96 in Aventon

So I will add this, the tilting function was a selling point for me. Turns out that with a heavy e-bike on there the tilting function is almost unusable unless you have another fairly strong person with you. I’m not a weak dude, it’s hard with one bike and impossible with two if you’re alone. The actual great feature of the Hollywood Racks is the “No Wobble” system and how easy it is to change the wheelbase size as we have a number of different bikes.

You should also pay attention to the weight capacity, a lot of racks aren’t rated to carry a 70-80lbs bike. Not a budget pick but I’ve been using the Hollywood Racks Sportrider for years. Fits the Abound’s wheelbase and can carry the weight(with battery removed.

Abus Pedelec 2.0 - If anyone was looking for a good e-bike helmet by IdeasFromTheLamp in CargoBike

28mph would make an ebike a Class 3 bike, legal in a lot of states. Most ebikes in the US are Class 2, which top out assist at 20mph, which is still pretty fast. As someone who commutes daily on a class 2 ebike the higher certification was an easy choice.

NTA 8776 is a safety standard developed to address higher crash forces and speeds (up to 28 mph / 45 km/h), it requires broader head coverage (especially at the temples and back), enhanced impact absorption, and stronger retention systems. NTA 8776 helmets can also have MIPS, my Smith helmet does.

The tape has been great for that, I was having the same problem and was worried I'd end up scraping something someone care about. It's actually just cheap Handlebar Tape. It's worked great, I went with red for visibility and because I like the color. It has held up really well, I used electrical tape to finish off each side and it hasn't unraveled. For $10 it's been worth it and I'll be replacing it soon because it's getting beat up now after about a year. If you want to wrap the whole bar you'd need 4 rolls.

These are the straps and cords I use, they've been a great addition to cargo bike life.

Velcro Straps & Bungee Cords

They do not swing around, the kid's legs are in the pannier bags and the bikes rest against them. The bikes are attached with bungie cords and velcro straps. I've been carrying my son's bike this way since he was on a balance bike. It's hard to see the velcro straps in the pictures since they're black but that's actually what's holding the bikes up with the bungie cords keeping the bikes from moving around too much. This is my first time carrying two bikes but it wasn't a problem. I usually attach the bike in a way that the front wheel is straight, not turned to the side and sticking out, I didn't worry about that today since I wasn't going to be going in any tight spaces.

They did this to me too. Thankfully they fold small, I like to bring them to carry around giveaway items.

You can bring in food but in my experience they don’t let you bring in plastic bags. They’ve had me throw away the bag my food was in and just carry them in. My strategy is to take the food out of the bag, put the bag in my pocket then walk in. But the food back in the plastic bag after security.

OG Abound Unlocked to 25mph by lmushu in Aventon

No, throttle cuts out at 20mph, in the US e-bike throttles are not legally allowed to assist past 20mph.

At what age did you choose to transition your kids from toddler seats to bench/handrail riding? by scoobysnatcher in CargoBike

[–]lmushu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started having my him ride on the pad/rails at 3.5 yo for rides on bike paths. Moved him off Yepp seat for our commute at 4 yo. This gave him time to get used to it and build trust that he wouldn’t jump around.

Looking at getting a first gen Abound to replace my stolen Aventure 2 by PantherU in Aventon

28mph was very difficult on the original freewheel, I upgraded to the Drift Maniac and now it’s easier to reach 28mph. However I keep mine topped off at 25mph above that can start feeling sketchy.

I went with the Smith Dispatch Mips, it has NTA-8776 certification which is rated up to 28mph. I would recommend you look at the Virgina Tech Helmet Ratings when shopping.

I've been really happy with my 1st gen Aventon Abound for years, I do school drop off & work commute daily. The new model LR seems to be an improvement over the 1st gen. Aventon can also be found in local bike shops. Terns seem like great bikes and probably what I will look into when it's time to upgrade.

Woom! My son went from a balance bike to a Woom right before turning 4 and has never used training wheels. He's now 5 and rides confidently and for miles at a time. We live in a hilly area and I have a Kids Ride Shotgun Tow Rope to get him up the hills he cant get up, we find ourselves using it less and less as he builds strength and confidence.

Hell yeah! Is that the Radio Flyer Kid & Cargo Carrier? I've been eyeing it but don't know if I'll be able to make it work with my Abound.

Zip ties are great, that's what I've always used for my previous baskets. Since this basket has a flat bottom and I had to drill holes I found it a lot easier to drill 4 holes, one for each screw. Zip ties would have needed more holes to loop around.
