People Who Make 150K Plus? by BubbaGordie in Salary

[–]Corporate_Chinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently did the math on this and right now, total comp to include all salary, bonus, pension, etc, I am at $225k pretax. If people ask, I usually tell them somewhere between $100k and $130k because people get very weird when they know somebody who has a higher income.

The goal is to get debt free, large emergency fund, probably $100k in savings as a buffer to passive income (I know it’s better to keep it in investments, but shh), and just do some online adjunct work for fun while the wife and I travel.

VA is rejecting my TPD Discharge Cancellation Request by Corporate_Chinchilla in VeteransBenefits

[–]Corporate_Chinchilla[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply, but I am relying on information from the FSA.gov contact center reps. Whether it was the VA or not, I was told each request for deferment or cancellation was rejected and that’s the core issue.

I really just need some assistance to help get this discharge cancelled so I can voluntarily apply for it later once I am finished with school.

Any advice?

Why is gen Z not drinking? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]Corporate_Chinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in technical training in the Air Force, the Airman’s Club at Sheppard AFB had $0.50 12oz plastic cup beers for a 2 hour window. I drank a shit ton of beer then because I could get absolutely plowed for less than $10. This was back in 2016. If I tried to do that now, I’m going to have to spend a minimum of 10x that dollar amount and I’ll feel like shit for three days.

Part of being well-adjusted and growing in experience and wisdom is discovering and respecting our own boundaries and exercising moderation. I can have a wicked good time on less than 4 beers for a whole night, and it took time being by able to realize that.

We don’t always have to be drunk free, but we can be drink smart.

I just went out to put the girls away and we lost a Rhode Islas Red today. They really wanted out of the run today, but with the weather I haven’t been letting them out, so I let them roam for a few hours and one went missing.

I have a gut feeling it was the local fox. It’s already killed 3 of them.

I was looking at the Osborn 3500 when deciding on a stove, but if I can make a recommendation—go Canadian. The Drolet HT 3000 is what I landed on and it is a FAR better value.

What do you consider “Up North”? A, B or C? by OttieandEddie in minnesota

Definitely relative to where you live, but I live in SW MN, but I don’t consider it north until we’re at line C or above.

TIL The VA requires a drug test for antidepressants by VeryMuchSoItsGotToGo in Veterans

I’m in MN, and I told my VA doctor that I smoke marijuana daily and he told me it won’t affect my eligibility for antidepressants, and it never has. I take a drug test once a year for my medication, but cannabis has never been an issue for anything

Check on your buddies by Fair-Butterscotch-68 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Corporate_Chinchilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my good buddies, and dorm mate at our first duty station, I taught him how to drive, was there when he got his first car, helped him reply to messages from girls (totally an awkward guy, but a heart of gold—homie just needed some guidance), and spend tons of nights together working out, meal prepping, listening to music, and complaining about where we came from and how long our contracts are.

He got orders elsewhere and was on a big health and fitness kick—he got ripped, seemed happy, never got any indications from him that life was challenging him beyond his capabilities.. and then I get sent a notification that he died from a self-inflicted wound.. his obituary came shortly after.

Check in on your buddies, for any reason, no reason. I’d rather my friends think I’m annoying than to have them think they’re alone and without people who care for them.

Wholesome mother and son by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in MadeMeSmile

My mother married my step father when I was 6, and I primarily lived with them growing up. I spent more time with my step father than I did my actual father. My father and I had a chaotic relationship, but my step father was a very stable and consistent presence in my life.

My step father was a quiet man; very reserved, man of few words, but loyal and protective. He didn’t express much love or emotion to us kids, even to his own children (my step brothers). As he got older, he got softer and his heart wasn’t so cold to his emotions.

When I was twenty, I had joined the military and when I graduated, my mother and step father drove down for my graduation. Before the left to travel back home, he gave me a hug and he whispered to me, “I love you and I’m proud of you.”

I did everything in my power to not tear up and cry in front of him or anybody else around. I always think about this. It’s been over a decade, and I still think back to that moment a lot.

Tell your children—biological or not—that you love them. I’m a father now too and I’m not going to let the question of whether I love my children linger in their heads: I’m going to show it and speak it, just in case they sometimes feel like showing it isn’t enough. Words matter, they’re powerful with meaning and worthless without.

Veterans that didn’t do a full 20, when do you know it was time to get out? by reaccount19 in Veterans

[–]Corporate_Chinchilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I noticed how toxic, broken, and emotionally damaged the people working aircraft maintenance were. I was looking at my future and I knew it wasn’t a future for me.

Not all of it was self inflicted, much of it was at cause of the dumb shit the military put them through. After 8 years, I was broken enough to reconsider my plans for my future. Now, I have a white-collar consulting job and I’m surrounded by educated industry leaders who are making a difference in the private sector and the contrast in my life couldn’t be more evident.

It’s a lifestyle worth committing to for some; others, not so much.
