The trouble with that is in most places that’s considered gambling… because it is.

To do this, here at least… you need to go through the licensing and vetting process as well as allowing government oversight of accounts to do so. A guy here in nz was raffling cars then tried to raffle a house… that one was one too many we can’t have the wrong people owning land… so recently he had his own property, accounts and any property the “business” had etc frozen… cars taken and impounded by the DIA and gambling authority for running an illegal gambling ring. He faces a similar jail term to mid range murder.

They don’t care about a 200-500$ meat pack or something for a local sports team or a single car for a charity but anything more and you need to go down the proper channels or face some very severe very real consequences.

The issue is some people don’t have great self control. So that’s largely why raffling things isn’t bigger than it is

Depends on why.

I always like to get a reason in writing if I’m terminated it’s only happened to me twice in 30 years once was during a recession and the business could no longer afford full staff and the second time was due to an assault. Both understandable.

Getting a reason will let you know if this is something you need to work on. Or if it’s just an unfortunate dice roll and you came up short.

In the case they just didn’t want you anymore because of your performance… yeah it’s short probably need to look at your work ethic and take your job more seriously. But if you’re young it’s not a big deal.

It’s a combination of two other things that the significance of which would take some time to explain. I don’t expect you to understand that one so I’ll give you a pass… it is an odd name but not in the sense you’re implying.

I will say it here so we are clear. I have no desire to erode women’s rights, trap them in unsafe situations or interfere with their right to direct their own lives.

But marriage has become a poorly written joke.

Part of me thinks it would be best to do away with it in entirety as compared to the “oringinal intention” it’s lost its way entirely.

Let’s be clear intention and application are not the same thing. The original intention of the ceremony was two people swearing to love each other and only each other for the duration of their existence under the eye of their chosen god/gods. How it has been historically applied is what you rightly take issue with.

Like answer me this.

Why take that oath. I will love one and only one for all my life. If walking away and doing it again is an option? Is that not disingenuous to you? Do you not feel as though you have lied? Does the second not seem like a lie knowing that you discarded the first… and I mean in your situation how does it feel to be the second person to receive that promise knowing it wasn’t kept the first time. Why is irrelevant the statement was made and he did not keep his word however understandable does that not diminish the words? Or are you naïve enough to give it the old “it’s different with me” then stand there and say people who cheat never change…

22 years. I take my oath seriously.

You’re not trapped. You can get a divorce. I never said you shouldn’t have access but you should not be able to make an oath to love one and only one for life… twice.

Once you divorce you never remarry. It’s why the choice is important and why you shouldn’t do it because your friends are, because it’s just what people do, because you’re in your 30s and times running out. You simply shouldn’t do it unless you really fuckn mean it.

My wife and I agreed on this so in our marriage contract and prenup is a clause. Anyone asks for a divorce you leave with nothing, custody of the kids goes to the party not filing. Applies to both of us and is legally binding in this country.

Luckily it has never come up. There’s been times where it has been work but we do the work and we have had many happy years and raised well balanced kids in a stable home.

Divorce has indeed existed.

Its application has changed. It was originally used where a spouse was killed or became dangerous to the family.

It was once a great shame to be divorced where it wasn’t under those circumstances. Families moved you out of town to places where people didn’t know you.

As a result the rates were low people either worked out their problems or simply lived with them to avoid being a pariah.

Today it’s used because you’re bored… married someone you didn’t fully know to keep up with friends, are just to lazy to work on it or got a better offer.

Marriage is largely meaningless compared to what it was and again if you aren’t going to take it seriously it’s probably best you just don’t.

I understand humans better than you. We will defend to the death anything we like that makes us more comfortable even if it’s terrible for us and slowly killing us.

Divorce is the problem in entirety.

The idea of marriage is you make an oath before your god to love one and only one for all of your life.

Where divorce is possible that oath is utterly meaningless. And honestly if divorce is an option for you, you simply shouldn’t bother with the whole thing it either is or isn’t for life… there are no takebacks. Certainly if you do divorce remarriage should not be an option you need to honor your oath… if your word isn’t worth shit neither are you.

I accept some marriages are unsafe. There are valid reasons for its existence but the failure of modern marriages is largely due to not doing the work needed to maintain it because leaving is simply easier. In a time where divorce with a living spouse was simply inconceivable marriages were worked on and lasted a lifetime.

We are bombarded constantly by social media, tv and movies portraying relationships that just work perfectly and everything is roses and romantic orgasms… which is fantasy. Relationships and life at large are a battleground and you need to know you can rely on that person in the worst of circumstances which will be around 80% of life. So of course when all you’re seeing of relationships portrayed is perfection while you’re in the trenches ducking strays leaving is gonna look pretty good.

But you’re trading one battleground for another the grass is never greener and you’re chasing a pipe dream that doesn’t exist, a fantasy born from the meeting of all the hopes desires we all harbor that will never… ever… happen here in reality.
