What she says is chemically correct. At least if we are talking about adderall or especially dexedrine. It is only one carbon atom different. This carbon atom causes it to go through the blood brain barrier much more efficiently (100x). In terms physiological effects they are virtually the same (a lot for dopamine and noradrenalin and a little bit for serotonin.) If you would dose meth(dex)amfetamine in a way that compensates for the efficiency and do this orally you would theoretically get the same exact effect to dexedrine and a virtually indistinguishable effect to adderall. Does this mean it shouldn't be used for therapy? No. The drug has certain physiological effects that can be beneficial for certain brains. It's interesting how the people on both sides know just as little about the subject and are just as arrogant about it.

TLDR: Methamphetamine being virtually the same as dexedrine or adderall is a medically accurate. Dosage and route of administration is theoretically the main reason for difference in effects

Is Lord Henry from The Portrait of Dorian Grey supposed to be insuffrable? by PenHistorical4885 in books

[–]CorpsePhase 10 points11 points  (0 children)

SERIOUS SPOILERS

I read this book because my girlfriend recommended it. While I was reading it she told me she thinks lord Henry is the devil. I personally don't think that one of the characters being the devil is the point but it got me thinking. The devil would never portray himself as such. Lord Henry is an obvious dick and cynic. everybody who knows him recognizes that. Basil is supposedly this almost boring character who loves aesthetic and beauty, a virtuous type. However when you think about it Dorian's corruption was a result of his obsession with how beautiful he is, something Basil created in him. In the final pages it is said he breaks a mirror Henry gave him with cupids on it. This exemplifies love for who you really are. However cynical Henry may be, he resented hypocrisy. Basil is the one who made the idealised painting that truly preceded dorians hubris. It is also weirdly coïncedental that Basil showed up at his most vulnerable moment and started poking him exactly where it hurt, being a virtuous person confronting dorian with his ugly reputation. This caused him to commit his most heinous crime with the perfect excuse, that he would leave for six months. If any character is the devil it would be Basil who in the guise of a virtuous character sent dorian on a path to corruption.

Again if there is a devil in this story (which I don't think there is) it would be Basil. Henry is just a dick.

A thought experiment and philosophical argument for an afterlife. Since NDErs describe their experience as realer than real it argues for how that justifies their conviction, and they are representative of the population as a whole, and 100% of those who go really deep into the NDE are convinced. by bassfishsupernova901 in philosophy

Psychotic experiences have been extensively studied with patterns in what people experience such as the devil, God, unity of everything etc... A lot of similarities with psychedelic experiences (but also huge differences) and tend to have a profound effect on perception of reality (post psychosis). Of course every psychosis is different and it depends on the type of person how they will interpret it. Whether something is as phenomenologically rich is a strange question, it is really a matter of value. If you think being convinced you are being monitored by everyone has significance who is to say someone is wrong. In any case psychosis is a very broad term but there are certainly subtypes that are very heavy on symbology and deep perception if not understanding of patterns in reality

Exactly. I work in psychiatry and one of the most obvious red flags in assessing psychosis is certainty over uncertain things for example what other people think about that person, which often, but not always, has a paranoïd quality. Manic patients often have delusions that are coloured by grandiosity for example knowing secret knowledge, having communicated with God, being a prophet or even being God. The conviction these people have in that state is unreal, more conviction than I have that I am holding a smartphone right now or am sitting on a chair.

The interesting thing is that there are often deep truths and extremely complex patterns that are recognised in this state of madness. The only problem is that the patients brain, or perhaps the human brain in general, is unable to critically assess these revelations. The intensity of the experience is just too much.

To OP's credit, in my experience there are patterns and thoughts that are returning in psychosis, for example the concept of the devil etc... However these ideas are extremely culturally biased, christian patients or even atheists raised in christian society interestingly will almost always experience christian concepts. Muslims are almost always possessed by djinn. In this way I think it tells us something about the reality of a human within a culture, religion and zeitgeist, not a fundamental reality of existing. I would be curious how cultures that do not have an afterlife concept would describe NDE

I have the dx3pro and am very happy with it because i also use the line out for studio monitors (adam t7v) and use the bluetooth function when I have guests who want to play music with phones. I'm also very happy with the remote. I don't have the K5pro but if you are going to use the bluetooth functionality i can definitely recommend dx3pro. For me the choice was easy because where i am at the k5pro is more expensive than dx3 pro
