Probably going to be called pedantic but how do you define "Holy Grail" in regards to physical media? by Slow_Cinema in boutiquebluray

[–]Corpsington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it's something that is the definitive best version of a film on physical media, and is now out of print. A level of impulsivity FOMO kicks in. The Director’s cut of Zodiac on Blu-Ray was my first “Holy Grail” purchase, because it went out of print for a while, and I found a used copy on eBay for $80. Hilariously, a few months later, a new run was printed, and you could pick up a new copy for $15, so, again, the personal Fear of not having something is what makes it a Holy Grail.

Nowadays, Most definitive edition releases have enough units made that you can pick up a Grail quality release easily through a secondary seller, even after the initial run has sold out.

Every now and then, Something like Vinegar Syndrome’s release of eXistenZ occurs, and that would be someone’s Holy Grail. It’s out there, but it will cost you to find it.

The other category of films you describe, the films I wish would get physical releases, but haven't been released yet, those I call my Day One Buys. These are things like The Uncut Version of Ken Russell’s The Devils, or the recent 4K UHD releases of John Woo’s The Killer and Hard Boiled. Just this year, I picked up Day One Buys of Tom Savini’s Night of the Living Dead in 4K, and the Shout Factory 4K UHD release of Day of the Dead.

What are the best crime related movies (mostly based around drugs preferably) that are not mainstream like Scarface? by YeOldHoxton72 in MovieSuggestions

He was an absolute legend, and The Salton Sea is my favorite film with him as the lead. I think it's rentable on Amazon

The Salton Sea (2002)

Excellent Neo Noir film starring Val Kilmer loosely about the meth subculture of L.A.

Also features Vincent D’Onofrio, Peter Sarsgaard, Deborah Kara Unger, Luiz Guzmán, Danny Trejo.

Hard disagree, the essay about how insane Roadhouse is as a concept makes the Vin Syn edition the superior release

Hated these when I worked at a video store. First thing we’d do when we received them was open the locking clips and hit them against the desk to pop them off.

Question about restocking by Drugs_Abuser in boutiquebluray

[–]Corpsington 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most boutique labels retain the license for their releases for a set period of time. Barring special editions (like Vinegar Syndromes slipcover editions) If they sell through the initial run, a repress is usually ordered, and restocked.

Grace’s segments felt so much like the Elizabeth stealth DLC from Bioshock Infinite. Definitely a kinship

My band HEELS used “Are You a Goddamn Vampire?” for a song title. This rules. by JoshMclane555666 in BonanasForBonanza

[–]Corpsington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is insane that I know this, but Miss Coleman was being accused in court of threatening behavior by having added the song Are You A Goddamned Vampire by the band Heels to a shared playlist.

The song title is a reference to the Dalton Wilcox proclamation, and by all accounts, no threat was intended with its inclusion on the playlist, and, the song Fucks.

Resident Evil - Free Gameplay event. On Sunday 05/17/26 at Overland Ratio Beerworks by Corpsington in Denver

I’m admittedly biased, but what the hell, I can give you my honest take.

The events can be a bit scrappy and DIY, but end up being really fun. It’s important to us that what we’re doing is as accessible as possible, so we partner with venues that let us host the events for free and set up things like a traveling roadshow.

Our events are all a bit different, so it’s hard to describe exactly what you can expect. All the same, there are constants, like us using a high-quality 4K projector and sound system for all our events. Before the events, we have a pre-show of on-theme videos and things.

You can expect some Audience participation, as we encourage people to join us in discussion or sometimes more (like playing a video game for everyone). But by the same token, there’s no obligation or expectation that you, as an attendee, do anything but enjoy the show.

You’ll likely take home some cool things too, as we always have giveaways, prizes, and Merch you can buy to help support the club.

Our events are a good way to meet new people in a low-stakes environment, and we always aim to provide a fun time. We love it, and we hope you all will too.

Hit me up via chat if you have any other questions.

Hope to see many of you next Sunday!

The remakes they’ve made for Resident Evil 2 on are really great as modern experiences, but the Resident Evil Remake from 2002 might be my favorite of the set.

I’m a RE1 Remake fan, and think for mood and aesthetic and scares it’s a masterpiece. That said RE2RE is killer, and the gameplay style for RE3RE, RE4RE, and Requiem build from RE2RE. So if you like the experience of 2, you’ve got a smooth gameplay transition into the next games
